The alleged scheme by Gov. Rod Blagojevich to trade a U.S. Senate post and other favors for personal gain includes an alphabet soup of unidentified participants, none of whom are charged with wrongdoing.

However, the person referred to in the federal criminal complaint against Blagojevich as "Candidate #5" is Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr., according to a law enforcement official and Jackson's own attorney.
Jackson is considered a candidate to replace Obama in the Senate, and met with the governor about the job the day before his arrest.
Speaking at an afternoon news conference, Jackson Jr. said he was "outraged" at the thought that the state's Senate seat may have been put up to the highest bidder.
"I have no involvement whatsoever in any wrongdoing. I did not initiate or authorize anyone at any time to promise anything to Gov. Blagojevich on my behalf," Jackson Jr. said. "I never sent a message or an emissary to the governor to make an offer, to plead my case or to propose a deal for the U.S. Senate seat, period."
Jackson Jr. added that his meeting on Monday with the governor about the Senate seat was the first time he had a meeting with Blagojevich in four years. Blagojevich, Obama, Jesse Jackson All Tied Together
By arturoafc54
Legally, some if not all will escape and remain free men. But the fact that can never be denied is this: Illinois is the most corrupt state or a damned good competitor, according to the FBI.
My Dad, an FBI agent himself, used to say, “Buying politicians is the gift that keeps on giving.”
“If it is not the most corrupt state in the United States, it’s certainly one hell of a competitor,” said FBI Special Agent Robert Grant during a news conference announcing the arrest of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
This means Rod Blagojevich, Barack Obama and Jesse Jackson all come from the same gene pool. The same Illinois and Chicago cesspool of corruption spawned the careers of all three men. Each has a vast web of friends and helpers within this gene pool.

Rod Blagojevich, Barack Obama and Jesse Jackson were all elected by the same voters: many of whom were duped and tricked and cheated by a long running system of corruption, bribes, influence peddling, quid pro quo and media manipulation.

Sounds like parts of Beijing to me.
The Illinois voters, therefore, are not to blame.

WASHINGTON – Their efforts in Congress squashed, U.S. automakers are depending upon a reluctant White House to quickly provide a multibillion lifeline to help them avoid imminent collapse.
General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, which have said they could run out of cash within weeks, have few options left after the dramatic defeat in the Senate of a $14 billion bailout for the domestic auto industry.
Its demise late Thursday prompted immediate calls from lawmakers in both parties for the Bush administration to tap into the $700 billion Wall Street bailout to rescue the beleaguered auto industry. The bill failed after talks broke down over the refusal of the United Auto Workers union to meet Republican demands for aggressive wage reductions.
The Senate rejected the bailout 52-35 on a procedural vote — well short of the 60 required — after the talks fell apart.
"I dread looking at Wall Street," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in anticipation of Friday's stock market reaction. "It's not going to be a pleasant sight."
Stock markets in Asia and Europe dropped sharply on Friday after getting word of the bailout's failure.
The Bush administration has repeatedly said the Wall Street bailout .....
Even as a child I saw the clueless US auto makers doing the same crap there still pushing. They are not responsible, they will never make it, let them fail, give the money to small business, small business is the real backbone of America. Besides no one will be buying new cars for a few years. They need to go away, and the workers can in part blame their greedy selves!!!!WASHINGTON – Their efforts in Congress squashed, U.S. automakers are depending... more

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Bernard Madoff, a quiet force on Wall Street for decades, was arrested and charged on Thursday with allegedly running a $50 billion "Ponzi scheme" in what may rank among the biggest fraud cases ever.
The former chairman of the Nasdaq Stock Market is best known as the founder of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, the closely-held market-making firm he launched in 1960. But he also ran a hedge fund that U.S. prosecutors said racked up $50 billion of fraudulent losses.
Madoff told senior employees of his firm on Wednesday that "it's all just one big lie" and that it was "basically, a giant Ponzi scheme," with estimated investor losses of about $50 billion, according to the U.S. Attorney's criminal complaint against him.
A Ponzi scheme is a swindle offering unusually high returns, with early investors paid off with money from later investors.
On Thursday, two agents for the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation entered Madoff's New York apartment.
I am reminded of the French revolution, or should be. All this corruption is a bit pathetic, is no one honest anymore.? Don't they already make enough, Greed is out of control.

Child's Body Found Near Missing Fla. Girl's Home
ORLANDO (AP) ― A team of medical examiners and detectives were hustling to identify the skeletal remains of a child found in a wooded lot in central Florida Thursday, hoping to solve the six-month-old mystery of a missing toddler.
Caylee Anthony, 3, has been reported missing since July. On Thursday, less than a half-mile from where the girl lived, a utility worker stumbled upon remains of a small child.
There was nothing that immediately indicated the remains were Caylee's. But Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said his investigators and the FBI would work around the clock and through the weekend to identify the child.
"Now the investigation continues," Beary said. "There is a lot of lab work to do. There is a lot of DNA work to do. There is a lot of crime scene work to do."
Caylee's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, was indicted in October on first-degree murder and other charges, even without a body. She has insisted that she left the girl with a baby sitter in June, but she didn't report her missing until July.
For the past several months, Anthony's family, police and volunteers from around the country have searched for the little girl.
A member of EquuSearch -- one of the volunteer groups -- said they did not check the location in early September because it was submerged in water. When they returned in November, the site had been fenced off.
EquuSearch volunteer Deborah Smith said she believes the remains belong to Caylee.Child's Body Found Near Missing Fla. Girl's Home
