An assistant principal whose life was put through the wringer after prosecutors falsely charged him with possession of child pornography will have his legal expenses reimbursed.
The Loudon County School Board voted 7-1 this week to reimburse Ting-Yi Oei about $167,000 for the legal expenses he incurred to fight the charges, according to the Washington Post.
Oei, an assistant principal at Freedom High School in South Riding, Virginia, was charged last year over a photo he obtained in the course of investigating a sexting issue at his school.
In March 2008, Oei’s principal tasked him with investigating rumors that some students at the school were exchanging sexually explicit photos of a teenage girl. When confronted by Oei, a male student admitted he had one photo. After the principal instructed him to retain a copy of the photo for the investigation, Oei had the student e-mail the image to his cell phone, as well as transfer it to Oei’s desktop computer. An assistant principal whose life was put through the wringer after prosecutors... more

Here's a practical guide to sexting aimed at men over 30. Blogger Gladstone demonstrates how his "sexting technique" (trademarked) can be applied to every aspect of life. From job interviews to ordering food at McDonalds and going to confession, sexting has a place in the everyday.
Here's the job interview segment --
In today’s economy, job applicants need every advantage they can get to secure a job. That means learning everything you can about your interviewer: his experiences with the company, his accomplishments and, of course, his cell phone number. An applicant serious about securing a job through my Sexting Technique™ will do whatever necessary–including going through the interviewer’s old discarded billing statements–to get this vital information. Only then can you have experiences such as these:
INTERVIEWER
So I see you’ve freelanced at Cracked.com for almost three years. Tell me, what part of that qualifies you to work here at Union Carbide?
GLADSTONE
Well, hmm… I wrote an article about Jessica Simpson being fat that got a lot of Diggs.
INTERVIEWER
Yeah, that’s not really what we’re looking for in an industrial chemist. I’m sorry, I just-
*Interviewer’s cell phone vibrates*
INTERVIEWER
Excuse me, I’m expecting a call from the EPA. Hello? Oh, it’s not a phone call. It’s just a text. That’s odd.
GLADSTONE
What is?
INTERVIEWER
Oh nothing. Just a weird emoticon type thing from some unknown caller.
GLADSTONE
Is it breasts?
INTERVIEWER
Excuse me?
GLADSTONE
The text. Is it breasts? I bet it’s breasts, isn’t it?
*Interviewer looks at cell phone.*
INTERVIEWER
Well, it’s an open paren, period, closed paren, and then the series of symbols is repeated again. Oh hey! I guess that does look like breasts. Neat… But how did you know that?
GLADSTONE
Perhaps, I could answer you best in this way….
*Gladstone pushes a few buttons on his cell phone. Interviewer’s cell phone vibrates.*
INTERVIEWER
Why did you just forward me a picture of a dude in a shower? Wait. Is that you? And if so, you might want to consider waxing….
GLADSTONE
(coyly)
I don’t know. Is it me? It could be….
INTERVIEWER
You realize I’m not gay, right? And even if I were, what you’re doing is wildly inappropriate.
GLADSTONE
Sir, I assure you. I’m not gay either. But that’s how serious I am about working here at Union Carbide.
INTERVIEWER
So serious that you’d pretend to be gay to straight man in a way that is unacceptable regardless of sexual orientation?
GLADSTONE
That’s one way to say it. Here’s another.
*Gladstone sexts furiously on his cell. Interviewer’s phone vibrates again.*
INTERVIEWER
(reading)
U R Hawt? What does that even mean?
GLADSTONE
It’s text-speak or sext-speak. All the kids are doing it, old timer! So do I get the job?
INTERVIEWER
Mr. Gladstone, I want you to listen closely. I’m going to do two things: First I’m going to drop my phone into the vat of hydrochloric acid we keep in Sector C. And then, I’m going to call security.
GLADSTONE
Security? I would think my job orientation would start with Human Resources?
INTERVIEWER
I didn’t offer you the job.
GLADSTONE
OK. Not yet. But call me. I know you have the number. . .
*Gladstone texts. Interviewer’s phone buzzes.*
INTERVIEWER
(reading text)
A semi colon followed by a closed parenthetical? You’re standing right there. Why didn’t you just wink at me for real?!
GLADSTONE
Would you like me to wink at you, sir? Is that what you’re saying? Sssh. Don’t answer. I’ll go. I’ll wait for your offer… by text message. Here's a practical guide to sexting aimed at men over 30. Blogger Gladstone... more

Congress, Press, Society Just Does Not Understand Sexting, Digital Disease Or How To Deal With These Issues Effectively!
Sexting, Sextcasting and Cyber Bullying as well as future Digital Disease cannot be dealt with through standard 20th century reactionary procedures.
How many lives have already been ruined as we only now have Congress introducing legislation for reaction based education?
Is this how we will deal with all future digital issues as well?
The impact of these issues on our digital generation can be diminished and proactively treated through the communication and understanding of Responsibility 2.1C or 21st Century Responsibility.
We as a nation need to provide direct proactive communication of Digital Responsibility (Responsibility 2.1C) to a new generation. We cannot be reactionary treating today's digital issues, and we cannot resolve them with 20th century threats, reprimand and curriculum. The real problem is our youth has grown up learning what we call responsibility 1.0 or offline responsibility. They do not understand the scope of the repercussions when they invoke poor (digital) judgment because they have not been proactively taught digital responsibility or what we call, Responsibility 2.1C. We cannot apply 20th century solutions to 21st century issues.Congress, Press, Society Just Does Not Understand Sexting, Digital Disease Or How To... more

CANBERRA (Reuters Life!) - Teens sending nude or suggestive photos of themselves over their mobile phones are being warned -- "sexting" can damage your future.
Australia's state government of New South Wales launched an education campaign this week to combat the growing practice of "sexting," saying these images or sexually explicit text messages can be posted on the Internet or forwarded to others, which can end up in harassment or even sexual assault.
"Sexting," a play on the term texting, has become a concern for parents and schools internationally with the proliferation of mobile phones with cameras and social networking sites, but such images can be classified as child pornography by law.
"Young people often don't think about the consequences of their actions. What they think is an innocent joke or harmless flirting can be very damaging if it falls into the wrong hands," said NSW Community Service Minister Linda Burney in a statement.
"It is frightening to think that once these images are online or on a phone, anyone anywhere in the world can access them. It is then impossible to retrieve and delete them. They are there forever and can damage future career prospects or relationships." She said government departments had received reports of girls as young as 13 sending sexually explicit images to their boyfriends on their mobiles phones, which were then passed on to other friends and even further once the relationships ended.
In the United States, a survey last fall found one in five teenagers said they had sent or posted online nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves and 39 percent said they had sent or posted sexually suggestive messages, according to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
Teenage actress Vanessa Hudgens, star of the successful "High School Musical" franchise, last year had to live down the scandal of her semi-nude pictures, meant for boyfriend Zac Ephron, ending up online.
Several prosecutions have been undertaken or threatened in the United States and one girl, Jessica Logan, 18, from Cincinnati, committed suicide after being taunted when a nude photo of herself sent via text was circulated at her school.CANBERRA (Reuters Life!) - Teens sending nude or suggestive photos of themselves over... more

You know those racy late-night texts that you receive late at night that are more than likely sent by your drunk and soon to be embarrassed love interest? Well now you can share them with the whole internet. Instead of just forwarding them to your friends, you can send them to the anonymous blogsite textsfromlastnight.com for all the world to read. Serious timewaster, this one. I love spending the afternoons looking at stuff like this:
"im in a kiddie pool, high, with a keg in arms reach. If i had a sandwich and a blowjob this would be the best day ever"
"OMG I just tried to text you something dirty but accidentally texted the obama campaign"

Teenagers who text mucky pictures of themselves to each other could find themselves banged up a report has claimed.
Experts have said even sending pictures of themselves in states of undress could result in them being charged under child pornography laws.
The warning comes on the back of research in which 22 percent of teenage girls and 18 percent of boys admitted sending nude or semi-nude pictures or video of themselves.

The Vermont Legislature is considering a bill that would legalize so-called "sexting" between teenagers.
Sexting refers to the exchange of explicit photos and videos via mobile phone. Under current laws, participants can be charged with child pornography, but lawmakers are considering a bill to legalize the consensual exchange of graphic images between two people 13 to 18 years old. Passing along such images to others would remain a crime. The Vermont Legislature is considering a bill that would legalize so-called... more

Maia Szalivitz is s serious journalist that researches her stories meticulously. She has written about the so called "boot camps" for troubled teens that have tried to torture kids straight.
Now she is looking at the political reaction to 'Sexting' that may create criminals out of thin air. Sexting, as you may know is as simple as a teen sending an 'intimate' photo of herself to her boyfriend.
Already the cries of politicians and foolish journalists are reacting with the swiftness of '200 pound Chimpanzee retaliation' to set a minimum age for sexting with harsh consequences for offenders, and apparently their parents.
As Maia says: "When these kids are placed in prison populations with violent offenders and are raped and assaulted, what exactly will be gained?"Maia Szalivitz is s serious journalist that researches her stories meticulously. She... more

We've been hearing loads about an alleged "epidemic" of "sexting" among teens. People are in a tizzy (aka media panic) about the fact that teens send one another sexually explicit texts and picture messages -- reports say it may be as many as one in five teens are effected by this phenomenon. But according to this panel discussion with actual real life teen girls, this panic may be blown way out of proportion. What do you think?
