Dakota Meyer, Marine Medal of Honor Recipient, Says He’s No Hero... (WASHINGTON) -- President Obama presented former Marine Dakota Meyer with the Medal of Honor at the White House Thursday, making Meyer the first living Marine to receive the Medal of Honor for heroism in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The former Marine sergeant, who shared a beer with the president at the White House Wednesday, insists he is not a hero for repeatedly rushing into heavy enemy fire in an attempt to rescue four missing U.S. servicemembers pinned down in an intense hours-long ambush in eastern Afghanistan on Sept. 8, 2009. Fighting through a piece of shrapnel that had injured his arm, Meyer later reached the four only to find that they had died in the fighting.
At Thursday’s ceremony President Obama called it “fitting” that the ceremony should take place the same week as the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that led to the war in Afghanistan.
Obama described the 23-year-old as representing “the best of a generation that has served with distinction through a decade of war.”
“You did your duty above and beyond, and you kept the faith with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps you love,” said Obama.
Obama called Meyer “one of the most down to earth guys that you will ever meet.” He noted that when the White House contacted him to arrange the president’s phone call to inform him he was to receive the award, he asked that it be scheduled for his lunch hour from his construction job because he said, “if I don’t work, I don’t get paid.”
“I do appreciate, Dakota, you taking my call,” joked President Obama.
Meyer becomes the 10th recipient of the nation’s highest award for valor in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; all but two have been presented posthumously. Army soldiers Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta and Sgt. First Class Leroy Petry are the only other living recipients of the award.
In an interview with ABC’s Bob Woodruff that aired Thursday night on ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer, Meyer says that if he was faced with the same situation again, “I would do it a hundred times” though he would change only one thing: ”I wish I could have kept them alive.”
He insists he is not a hero, but was only doing “what Marines do…I’m the furthest thing from a hero,” he says, “if this is what it feels like to be a hero you can have it.” He adds, “What gives me the right to be standing here today and not their kids? I feel like I failed them and I failed their families.”
Meyer wears bracelets with the names of the four Americans killed in Ganjgal that day and feels some guilt that he survived the battle.
“I guess what’s stuck in my mind is you either get guys out alive or you die trying, if you didn’t die trying, you didn’t try hard enough,” he says.
Now living on his grandparents’ farm in rural Kentucky, Meyer says that he would return to active duty “in a heartbeat” if he could be promised a return to combat “fighting with Marines. http://www.670kboi.com/rssItem.asp?feedid=118&itemid=29725549Dakota Meyer, Marine Medal of Honor Recipient, Says He’s No Hero...... more

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - If they had to live next door to a celebrity, American adults would most like to be neighbors with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and chat show host Oprah Winfrey.
But trouble-prone pop star Britney Spears would be the worst celebrity neighbor, according to a survey published on Tuesday of the most and least desirable well-known faces Americans would have in their backyard.
Republican vice presidential candidate Palin topped the poll of most desirable celebrity neighbors with 14 percent, closely followed by Winfrey, who was particularly popular with women.
Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps was heavily favored by men but came in third with 9 percent overall.
Paparazzi-magnets such as Spears, actress Lindsay Lohan and British couple David and Victoria Beckham apparently don't make the best neighbors.
Spears, who was followed day and night by packs of photographers for much of 2008, was voted the least desirable neighbor by 19 percent of adults, followed by Rosie O'Donnell (18 percent), Joe the Plumber (8 percent), who made headlines in the final stages of the U.S. presidential elections, and Lohan (7 percent).
This article clearly shows our corrupt media. This is what America as a whole thinks of Sarah Palin. Americans would want her as their neighbor. The article by Reuters says "the most desirable neighbor" But yahoo list the title as The Most, least desirable" Again showing the corrupt media we have to watch, and are supposed to believe. But folks, journalism as a noble trade has died. Partisan Left Wing Hacks have infiltrated what once used to be an honorable trade. The days of Murrow, and Cronkite are gone forever, and if a person wants the truth they must go to the internet and read all versions of something and then sift through the stew of information, to then decide what they want to believe. THIS IS THE SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS IN AMERICA!!!LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - If they had to live next door to a celebrity, American adults... more

Sarah Palin has been the Left Wings rallying cry since the day that the LOSER John McCain picked her. She single handed resurrected his hopeless attempt at a Presidential run in 2008. Now, the Left wing continues down the slippery slope of Demonizing the nice lady. Because she stands for everything they hate, to sum it up in one word AMERICA. Palin is the epitome of the American dream story. From humble beginnings comes Alaska's youngest, most successful Governor, not to mention the first Female Governor of Americas largest State. This alone is much to say about an average house wife from a small American town, But add to that, Ran For Vice President, and she buries and Democrat going. The Democrats jealousy will be their undoing however. Sarah Palin wont take this disrespect for long, the sheeple that call themselves progressives nowadays to avoid the stigma associated with the LIBERAL brand. Are going to be livid when Palin runs for President in 2012. I am pretty sure she would just gone home and taken care of Alaskas business, not running in 2012. But the constant attacks on her character by our so called Media, the Left wing bloggers (who BTW couldn't even feed themselves with out Government help) have been essentially a gauntlet thrown down in front of the nice lady. And if she runs in 2012 I wont be the only person to support her. 1/2 of America will be there also, giving all, money, support etc. It will take more than some Homely washed up actress this time to keep her out of the White House!!!Sarah Palin has been the Left Wings rallying cry since the day that the LOSER John... more
