Through a "tweet" on Twitter today, Dave Matthews Band have announced that they are giving away their new single, "Funny The Way It Is", as a free download for one week.
Dave (@davejmatthews) and bassist Stefan Lessard (@slessard) are both very active on Twitter, keeping touch with their huge fanbase and decided it was the perfect place to get the word out. The song comes off their upcoming album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which hits stores on June 2nd. It will be the band's first studio album since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer. The "GrooGrux King" in the album title refers to Moore’s nickname within the group. Matthews created all of the artwork for Big Whiskey, including the richly detailed cover illustration that puts a GrooGrux spin on New Orleans’ traditional Mardi Gras parades while evoking the joy and the sorrow expressed in the album’s songs. Matthews has designed logos and other elements in the past, but this is the first time he has created the entire packaging for a Dave Matthews Band album.

Smashing Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"Hello from sunny California, where I'm currently working with some of my friends on new Smashing Pumpkins songs. The mood here is relaxed, serene, and studious as my pals are helping me with some TLC to zero in on the new direction that I'm trying to take the music."
It goes to address other question like why he is still using the "Smashing Pumpkins" name.

Metallica announced last week that they will be reuniting with former bassist Jason Newsted when they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend.
"I just planned on going, looking good in my suit, hanging out with my family, going up and getting the award, making a nice speech…," he tells Billboard.com about his expectations of the ceremony before being asked to perform with his former bandmates this Saturday.

Rancid have announced a title and release date for their highly anticipated new full length. The record is titled "Let The Dominoes Fall" and is due out June 2, 2009. The record is the first new full length since 2003's "Indestructible". In the intervening years, the band remained active with extensive tours as well as a number of solo and band releases like "B Sides and C Sides" and "The Music Videos: 1993-2003" DVD.

Guns N' Roses have announced who will replace former NIN guitarist Robin Finck (DJ Ashba) in the band.
DJ Ashba, co-founder of Nikki Sixx’s side-project Sixx A.M. and a former member of Beautiful Creatures, has been announced as the new guitarist in Guns N’ Roses.

The all-new Wolfmother line-up are readying their return today (March 30) with a brand new track.
Although the band effectively split last year, singer and guitarist Andrew Stockdale vowed to continue under the Wolfmother name with a new line-up.
The first fruits of the decision are now available, in the form of new track "Back Round", which is available from today on Wolfmother.com.

Kiss guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley has told Brazil's O Dia Online that the band's new LP will be released in September. He also described it as "a classic Kiss album" and a throwback to the "Destroyer" and "Love Gun" songwriting style bit with modern production.

Metallica's former bassist Jason Newsted will reportedly join Metallica on stage when the veteran rock band is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month.
The band, who will be inducted by Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, said that they were inspired to reunite with their estranged bassist, who left the band in 2001, largely due to awkwardness they witnessed when Blondie were inducted in 2006.

Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune reports that Tool and The Killers are expected to fill out the headlining slots for the fifth annual Lollapalooza festival, set to take place August 7-9 at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. Also scheduled to appear are the Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode and Jane's Addiction, plus Kings Of Leon.

Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the Smashing Pumpkins.
Chamberlin's departure is posted on the Smashing Pumpkins' web site.
The announcement didn't say why the 44-year-old Chamberlin left the group.
The announcement says Corgan, who sings and plays guitar, will "continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins with plans to head into the studio this spring."Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the Smashing Pumpkins.

Over 100 Iron Maiden fans were arrested before the band's show at Bogota's Simon Bolivar Park in Colombia on Saturday (March 7) as a riot broke out outside the venue.
Ticket-less fans gatecrashed the 25,000-capacity show, with riot police attempting to quell the chaos as rocks were thrown and tear gas was used by authorities, reports BBC News.

Many are claiming that Yahoo! Music is reaching at straws to spark their new music blogging page, and to many their credibility has taken a hit. One particular article by Shawn Amos has Chris Cornell on a list of those Jumping The Shark for joining with Audioslave. With post upon post blasting the author for including Cornell, the publicity stunt worked making it one of the more popular blogs on the site.
