The last Apple keynote to headline Macworld Expo here wrapped up a little like the final episode of a long-running television drama: with a thematic farewell song.
Tony Bennett, the silver-haired crooner, concluded Apple's final presentation at the conference named after its computers by singing "The Best Is Yet to Come," followed by "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."
And with that, the years of Apple surprising observers with splashy product introductions only weeks after Christmas ended. Next year's Macworld may still happen -- signs over the exits of the Moscone Center here optimistically listed dates for a 2010 convention under the headline "The start of a new era"-- but it will have to get by without Apple.

Apple's senior VP of worldwide product marketing, Phil Schiller, has revealed some exciting upcoming Mac features in the keynote speech of this year's (and the final) Macworld convention.
One I'm intrigued by is the secret service-esque Face Detection - a new feature in iPhoto '09 that analyses pictures and recognises people if you've already pre-tagged them in another picture.
As well as that, there's some intriguing developments with geotagging locations in pictures you've taken, and music fans will be pleased to know the GarageBand program is getting a pretty snazzy instrument tuition feature in which famous musicians like Sting and Fallout Boy's Patrick Slump give video lessons on how to play certain instruments with detailed annotations of which notes to play at the bottom of the screen.
Still no mention of the MacBook Wheel, Apple's rumoured new laptop that features a giant scroll wheel instead of a keyboard...
