The media and blogosphere have been abuzz the last few weeks around the fixation GOP leaders have with Ayn Rand whose teachings are anathema to Christians. Rep. Paul Ryan said we need more of her "morality and thinking" in DC. Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck both extolled her on their radio broadcasts. But Ayn Rand said Christ's teachings were evil and that the goal of her books was to undermine Judeo-Christian morality.
As many of us on Current know, Glenn Beck usually does not change his mind, but two days ago he did! In June of last year he extolled Ayn Rand on his radio show saying, “You gotta love her – she’s great!” But then he watched and played American Values Network's ad, which has been at the center of the recent discussion, and highlights the Rand vs Jesus problem for the GOP. And Beck did an about-face, calling Rand a "bigot" and someone who wrongly used freedom for selfish ends. Check out the video and the link to the article above. If even Beck – Glenn Beck! – can’t ally himself with Rand’s morality, how could some of our political leaders –who claim to be “Bible-believing” – still find it possible to praise her morality and say our federal budget should be modeled on her teachings? The media and blogosphere have been abuzz the last few weeks around the fixation GOP... more

Stephen Colbert absolutely killed it last night taking on the GOP's attempts to defund Planned Parenthood. First, Colbert mocked Sen. Jon Kyl's lie that abortion is "over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does."
"That is unbelievable... in that it is not true," Colbert said. "Only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does is abortions. Kyl just rounded up to the nearest 90."
As for Kyl's follow-up claim that his remark "was not intended to be a factual statement," Colbert said, "You can't call him out for being wrong when he never intended to be right....What an amazingly liberating defense!"
Then there was his take-down of Fox and Friends, which, unbelievably, claimed that women can get the vital services provided by Planned Parenthood -- including breast exams and pap spears -- at Walgreens. Colbert, famous for almost never breaking character, couldn't stop himself from laughing at that one. "I'm pretty sure [the pap smears are] between the Swiffer refills and the cat food," he said, trying to keep it together. "Just look for the stirrups."

Americans depend on objective reporting of the news -- especially during election season. But News Corp's $1 million contribution to the Republican Governors Association makes FOX a deeply partisan observer in the reporting of the 2010 gubernatorial elections.
Americans deserve to know about your direct involvement in this campaign. You must post a disclaimer about News Corp's political contribution during your gubernatorial election coverage.
But this contribution crosses a line that FOX has never crossed before, and takes its bias to a whole new level.
It's time for FOX to own up to its bias. During FOX's 2010 governors race coverage, FOX must disclose News Corp's million dollar support of Republican gubernatorial candidates.
FOX can no longer claim to be an impartial observer in this election. But FOX's election coverage will be watched by millions of voters, and those voters deserve to know that FOX and its parent company are deeply invested in the outcome. That's why FOX must disclose News Corp's contribution to its viewers.Americans depend on objective reporting of the news -- especially during election... more

It's happened to all of us. You're in a public place and FOX News is on TV. You sit and simmer, or pack up and move on. You can't bear the idea that the lies, distortions and race-baiting that FOX News uses to divide our country are being promoted as mainstream news.
FOX is poisonous — and it spreads and is legitimized partly through public TVs. It's why CREDO is joining with Color of Change to launch Turn Off FOX — a massive campaign to get FOX turned off in stores, restaurants, and other public places.
Will you join us in calling on businesses in your community and across the country to stop airing FOX, and declare your own household a "FOX-free zone"? With thousands of our signatures to back them up, Turn Off FOX members will visit local businesses that play FOX, explain how divisive and dangerous it is, and ask them to turn it off.
Please take a moment to add your voice — you'll get a FREE "Turn Off FOX" sticker, and we'll tell you how to get more involved.
Some people watch Fox at home because it reflects their view of the world; but there are others who see it on TV in public places and assume that it's legitimate news. FOX News is often on in bars, restaurants, airport lounges, stores — appearing to be real news, while spreading lies, hate, division and promoting the political agenda that was confirmed with FOX parent company News Corporation's $1 million contribution to elect Republican governors.
The goal of Turn Off FOX is to reduce the number of public TVs showing FOX News, while spreading the word about FOX's poison (and how it works) to those who don't know.
Signing up for the campaign is just the first step. We make it easy for you to tell us about businesses playing FOX. If you're willing to talk with them, we'll provide you with straightforward materials that explain why they shouldn't be a party to what FOX is doing. And if there are businesses you know that want to tell the world they would never play FOX, you can help them declare themselves a "FOX-free zone."
As businesses Turn off FOX and stand up as FOX Free, and as we encourage our friends and family to do the same, we'll help make clear, to people across the country, what FOX is about. And we'll reduce their ability to do harm.http://colorofchange.org/turnofffox/sticker/tof.html?&credo... more

Like clockwork, every time even a few inches of snow falls, out come the conservative media's anti-science crazies. To them, cold weather proves what they already believe: that there is no global climate change. Racism on the Fox News cable network program "Fox and Friends" is becoming a problem. Perhaps the election of a black President is responsible; perhaps it is nothing new, only newly exposed. Whatever the case, the problem remains. There are two recent examples of on air overt racism.

WTF Glenn said I'm not saying Obama
dosen't like people he just Racist.
This morning on Fox and Friends, Fox host Glenn Beck accused President Obama of being "a racist."
The group was discussing the recent Gates controversy, and Beck exclaimed that Obama has "over and over again" exposed himself as "a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture. I don't know what it is..."
When Fox's Brian Kilmeadeon pointed out that many people in Obama's administration are white, so "you can't say he doesn't like white people," Beck pressed on. "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem," Beck said. "This guy is, I believe, a racist."WTF Glenn said I'm not saying Obama
