Going to a therapist can be a difficult decision to come to. Movies and books make therapy out to be for crazy people and often put a bad spin on what goes on when you’re on the couch. While it may be hard to open up to loved ones, sitting down with a therapist gives you an opportunity to air your feelings in a judgment-free zone.

With the latest celeb meltdown in full swing, the airwaves have been swept with the terms like “drug problem,” “alcoholic,” and even “sex addict.” But life’s most well-known vices are not the only ways in which someone can become an addict.

Marriage isn’t for sissies. We recently came across this plastered on a pillow, but the phrase couldn’t be more true. Anyone who’s married (or been married) know that a relationship takes hard work and commitment, and these things are multiplied when it comes to a marriage.

Finding the right therapist is tough, especially when you’re in a state of distress and feel you’re in need of a listening ear ASAP. Still, you don’t want to jump into a relationship with a therapist who you aren’t going to gel with or else you’ll be stuck hunting down the right therapist within a few sessions.

Throwing out counseling student Jennifer Keeton's discrimination lawsuit against Augusta State University — which said Keeton cannot tells gay patients they are immoral, despite her Christian beliefs, and will expel her if she insists on it — federal Judge Randal Hall said the school's demand she attend a remediation program was perfectly reasonable and did not violate her constitutional rights.
Keeton "failed to clearly establish her high burden of persuasion of a 'substantial likelihood' of success of the merits of her case," says Hall, noting the university never told Keeton to change her religious beliefs. "It was not (Keeton's) personal beliefs that were their concern, but rather only her inability to separate her personal beliefs in the judgment-free zone of a professional counseling situation."Throwing out counseling student Jennifer Keeton's discrimination lawsuit against... more

Keeping your marriage strong and healthy is something that takes time, love, patience, and sometimes hard work. Sometimes, it’s enough just to know that somebody else might be feeling the same way. Some of these bloggers view marriage from a Christian perspective, while some are from other cultures.

The Alliance Defense Fund who is doing a lot of work to try and make Augusta State University grant a degree to a woman who believes that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice despite the fact that the scientific evidence shows otherwise has lost a case against Eastern Michigan University where a graduate student said she was kicked out of a master’s program after refusing to counsel a homosexual client.
David French, a lawyer for the ADF, stated “There are aspects of the decision that present appealable issues and we disagree with the court on his conclusions.” Which is what they were expected to say, after all, Julea Ward refused to council the gay client on religious grounds, and French and the ADF are busy trying to make sure that people like Ward and Keeton, from the Augusta State case, are allowed to violate professional conduct. They would act in a manner not dissimilar to a Creationist acting as a paleontologist disbelieving all those pesky dinosaur bones and trying to explain them away as a joke from God that no one had gotten yet.
Walter Kraft, EMU’s vice president of communications, pointed out that the US Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld these practices by public universities because, according to him, the courts “should show great respect for the faculty’s professional judgement.” He also said “Eastern has a responsibility to the public to exercise careful and deliberate judgement about who should be permitted to graduate from our professional schools and practice in the education and health professions.” The university is pleased with the ruling.
Ward, who is from Detroit, believes she was unfairly removed from the program after she asked that the client be assigned to another counselor because her religious views prohibit her from affirming or condoning gay relationships. US District Judge George Steeh disagreed with her stating “Plaintiff was not required to change her views or religious beliefs; she was required to set them aside in the counselor-client relationship — a neutral, generally applicable expectation of all counselors-to-be under the ACA (American Counseling Association) standard.”
The dismissal of the suit is a problem for the ADF given that they are trying to pursue this with several others including in Georgia where Jennifer Keeton has been barred from graduating for largely the same problem, which is unethical and immoral professional behaviors. Perhaps both should take a look at going to another college. Perhaps Liberty University or see if they can get an internship with George Rekers when he finally emerges from the purgatory he has gone into to avoid questions about his luggage handlers07/28/10-by Bridgette P. Due to an apparent lack of funding, London's only dedicated rape crisis centre is due to be closed this year. They need £250,000 per year just to make ends meet. In the statement from the RASASC, they said they were too busy to get involved in activism and fundraising, and is a sign of a backlash against the women's movement by local authorities.
"Victims are not normally strong enough to tie themselves to the railings outside Downing Street, shouting 'this has happened and I don't have any help'. Survivors of sexual abuse don't want people to know what happened to them. They won't be marching to Whitehall."
The NHS offers no specialised rape assistence. Do you think that it's up to the victims of rape to drive publicity and fundraising for the rape crisis centre? Do you agree that this is a sign of a backlash?
