Sphinx News is reporting that voters in Egypt rejected both candidates on the presidential ballot and delivered a surprise write-in victory to one-time pharoah King Tut.
Exit polls revealed that “the ladies love his style,” while male voters responded favorably to reports that he once “ate a crocodile.” One young man commented that he “never thought he’d see … people stand in line to elect the boy king.”
Before jubilant crowds dancing by the Nile, Mr. Tut vowed to reform deposed dictator Hosni Mubarak’s pyramid-style economy, eliminate crooked deals in smoke-filled tombs and return Egypt to the prosperity of the Bronze Age.
Born in Arizona, he subsequently moved to Babylonia where he achieved fame after joining the Sarcophagus Party and becoming a golden idol, his early exploits immortalized in popular hieroglyphics of the day.Sphinx News is reporting that voters in Egypt rejected both candidates on the... more
Find out what that triple threat of funny man icons comprised of Steve Martin, Owen Wilson and Jack Black have to say about working together on The Big Year. Will this rare cinema bird manage to stand out against commercial programming that includes Footloose and The Thing this weekend?

Steve Martin wins bluegrass award -- no joke
By Ed Payne, CNN
updated 4:51 PM EST, Fri September 30, 2011
Martin along with his touring band the Steep Canyon Rangers won at the 2011 International Bluegrass Music Awards in Nashville.
Martin wrote or co-wrote 15 of the 16 tunes on his bluegrass album
Allmusic.com calls it a "first-class banjo album"
Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs and Dolly Parton appear on the album
Martin's banjo playing is no joke, anymore
(CNN) -- It used to be that Steve Martin's music was a joke or at least part of the joke -- a prop in a comedy bit -- but no more.
Martin along with his touring band the Steep Canyon Rangers won entertainer of the year Thursday night at the 2011 International Bluegrass Music Awards in Nashville.
"Hey! @steepcanyon and I just won IBMA Entertainers of the Year!" Martin posted on his Twitter account.
Martin released his Bluegrass debut "The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo" in 2009, which was produced by John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Country and bluegrass heavyweights like Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs and Dolly Parton appeared on the album. Martin wrote or co-wrote 15 of the 16 tunes.
"Everyone knows that Martin can be very funny, but The Crow isn't a joke," said Steve Leggett on Allmusic.com. "It's a first-class banjo album."
Martin's banjo musings appeared on his first comedy album, 1977's "Let's Get Small," typically punctuating a silly song or serving as an interlude between gags and remained a part of his comedy gigs.

American Masters is one of the reasons we need PBS. Wednesday it airs “Troubadours,” the fascinating story of the rise in the early 1970s of the singer/songwriter. It is centered on the Troubadour, the L.A. night spot that became the launching pad for many of these artists, including Carole King, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, and Elton John (he made his first U.S. appearance there). Video outtakes featuring Steve Martin and Bonnie Raitt here:

Steve Martin is a hugely funny guy...maybe not so on that night. Especially when talking about serious art and not doing the funny stuff he's known for. And did I mention that people paid $50 a head to listen to this --
When the interviewer read aloud a note -- from the powers that be filtering through the angry emails from viewers watching the sleep-fest on circuit TV --
the audience cheered (and I imagine did some fist pumping). The passed note suggested they talk less about the art world and more about Mr. Martin’s career.
That brings me to my recent Fiction Writing Workshop (run by the talented author Susan Breen) which ended last week. In that workshop there are about 6-8 folks sitting around a table, each week a selection of students have their pages read and then both the students and instructor offer up a selection of good points and then some suggestions for improvement.
