Senator Susan Collins criticized the Obama Administration because AbdulMutallab, the foreign terrorist who tried to blow up a plane on Christmas Day, was read his Miranda rights given and access to a lawyer.
First, I believe AbdulMutallab will end up serving the rest of his life in prison despite being given a lawyer and a fair trial.
Second, Our country can't shove its principles of justice in the drawer just because it's more expedient or easier to ignore them.
Senator Collins, a much wiser public servant than you once said, "Those who would sacrifice a little liberty for a little security deserve neither and will lose both."
That's from Benjamin Franklin.Senator Susan Collins criticized the Obama Administration because AbdulMutallab, the... more

Debussy's Reflets Dans L'Eau - Reflections in the Water - is one of many works in the composer's output inspired by water or by the sea.
It is also one of the most evocative of the imagery the composer attempts to convey and one of the most popular piano works in his output. Debussy revealed that he viewed the piece as a depiction of a pebble being tossed into calm water to make ever-widening ripples. That said, the work also conveys a good bit more, including, as the title suggests, reflections on the water surface, undoubtedly of the sun and sky and nature scenery surrounding it.
The piece quietly opens, with chords rising into the upper register seeming to depict gentle splashes. Thematically, the work is threadbare; atmospherically, however, it is rich. The main theme is short-breathed (mainly consisting of eight, sometimes ten notes), gradually evolving from the opening material. The middle section develops tension and erupts in music the composer must have envisioned as ripples nearly turning into waves. The mood returns to its earlier tranquil demeanor and this approximately five-minute work quietly ends.
Debussy wrote and rewrote Reflections while staying at the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne across the bay from Bexhill on Sea. He had to flee Paris in 1905 with his mistress, Emma Bardac, to escape a scandal - his wife had shot herself. From the hotel he wrote to his Publisher, Jacques Durand:
"Your impatience with regard to the Images is touching, but this is what’s happening to me: I’m really not pleased with the first piece, “Reflets dans l’eau”, and so I have decided to compose it afresh with new material and in accordance with the most recent discoveries of harmonic chemistry… I’m beginning to see straight in my imaginative affairs again, and my thinking machine is slowly getting into gear."
Less than a month later Debussy was clearly satisfied with the Images compositions of which Reflets was one, and was able to tell Durand: “Without any false modesty I think these three pieces stand up well and will take their place in the piano repertoire… to the left of Schumann, or to the right of Chopin, as you like it.”Art + Debussy Music + talk => 5 min mini doc

So much for keeping the federal government from blowing millions in taxpayer money.
The Senate quietly stripped whistleblower protections from the final stimulus package Wednesday afternoon, as the bill's authors bragged of a bipartisan compromise. The removal is particularly significant because of the bill's $789 billion price tag.
Despite the ugly record of federal spending in Iraq -- where auditors found problems with $88 million in federal contracts, and couldn't account for 8.8 billion dollars -- senators quietly nixed the measure from the bill, without explanation.
Talking Points Memo, which cited a source close to the final bill, said the provision was removed by Republican Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), one of the senators brokering the compromise.
Some Republicans take umbrage with the idea of blanket whistleblower protections, saying they could damage the US's ability to collect intelligence.
Project for Government Oversight, a government watchdog group, blasted the removal.
"Accountability got mugged today when congressional leaders stripped federal whistleblower protections from their compromise stimulus bill," the group said in a release.
-This is a crock of shit. They are guilty of raping the US economy and robbing the taxpayer to cover it up. And now they are preventing the witnesses who would nobley sacrifice themselves for the greater good from doing so. I want t he TRUTH. And they expect us to believe removal of the whistleblower protection in an economic stimulis bill falls under the guise of "national security". Come on! The Bush Paulson TARP specificially proctects the Treasurer's (Paulson) actions with those funds from "prosecution in any US Court or review by any Federal Agency". They must really be scared about what they have done to us. Every American should be outraged. - Bansheewail, over and out.So much for keeping the federal government from blowing millions in taxpayer money.... more

Susan Collins, a “Republican” Senator from Maine, is one of only a handful GOP Senators who might approve the massive spending bill the Democrats and Obama Administration has been pushing the past couple weeks. My major question: Is she a Republican? After looking at her stances on issues, she seems to be in favor of big government.Susan Collins, a “Republican” Senator from Maine, is one of only a handful... more
