Coop Norway has announced it is to stop carrying 51 gaming brands previously available to customers, after the horrific events in Oslo and on Utøya, including CoD4: Modern Warfare and World of Warcraft – games which the perpetrator Anders Behring Breivik claim to have actively played.
According to a report in Norwegian newspaper Rogalands Avis, Geir Inge Stokke, director of Coop Norway Retail, said the retail giant is temporarily removing the games out of “consideration for those affected,” by last week’s murders.
“The decision to remove the games was made around the time we realized the scope of the attack,” he said. “Others are better suited than us, to point to the negative effects of games like these. At the moment it’s [appropriate] for us to take them down. I wouldn’t be surprised if others do the same.
“We have to think very carefully about when to bring these goods back. The economy involved is of no importance.”
Breivik, the man behind the attacks, mentioned in his “manifesto” time playing WoW and even went so far as to describe Modern Warfare as “training” tool in his “plan.”
Games confirmed as being removed from shelves by Gamers Globe include: Homefront, Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, World at War, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Sniper Ghost Warrior, and Counter-Strike Source (thanks, distraet).

"Lead character artist Joel Emslie and artists Ryan Lastimosa and Brad Allen are the latest employees at Infinity Ward to hang up their hats and leave the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer.
All three now-former employees have updated their Facebook profiles to reflect the recent decision, a source close to Infinity Ward has told me. None have announced their future development plans.
Two others, however, have made a future with their former bosses at Respawn Entertainment official.
Emslie, Lastimosa and Allen's departures arrive just days after a total of eight other Infinity Ward developers turned in letters of resignation. In just a few days, the headcount at the Activision-owned studio has decreased by 11. So far, as predicted by Activision, the pace does not seem to be slowing.
Several employees..."

Whether it was Activision or Infinity Ward’s decision to charge such a steep price doesn’t really matter since they still sold 2.5 million downloads during the first week. So did those 2.5 million gamers get their money’s worth? Some of them probably feel like they did, but I think that money could have been better spent elsewhere.Whether it was Activision or Infinity Ward’s decision to charge such a steep... more

The good people at IGN, GameSpy and TeamXbox have teamed up to raise funds to help the troubled nation of Haiti rebuild after the recent devastating earthquake there.
IGN is broadcasting a 12-hour webathon until 9PM tonight. They've been playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 since 9AM this morning, and IGN employees have pledged money for each level earned during the play session.
