Achilles G. Rizzoli (1896-1981) was a San Francisco Bay Area native, a professional draftsman, and visionary artist. Among his work were symbolic representations of people and events as elaborate buildings. Only a few neighbors and colleagues took notice of his art during his lifetime.
Nine years after his death, a sample of his work made its way to a gallery owner. Eventually, 40-years-worth of A.G. Rizzoli's creations were discovered in his great-nephew's attic. In 1997 the San Diego Museum of Art launched a two-year, traveling exhibition of his drawings. He was considered one of "50 classic outsiders" by Raw Vision's sourcebook in 2002.Achilles G. If you're not so into hugging trees, how about taking a seat on one? Swiss designer Michel Bussien has designed a new way to help you get up close and personal with nature--by turning it into furniture. The "Growing Chair" shown is a sharply designed mold that allows you to turn greenery into a chic seat.
Bussien explains his creation as follows. From Yanko Design:
Having evolved from nature, we have gradually differentiated ourselves from it. Modern society has come to build itself on the perception that nature and man are separated. This differentiation has come to inhibit us and our way of creating. We have now reached the point when the way forward is going back.If you're not so into hugging trees, how about taking a seat on one? Swiss... more

I have a theory that every girl has a unitard lurking somewhere in her closet, just like every man probably still owns a jean button-down shirt. We keep them not necessarily because they remind us of the good times but -- and this is the best part of my theory -- because we hope to wear them again someday. Retro workout wear is not just for skinny hipsters anymore! Bring on the unironic awesomeness! Behold:I have a theory that every girl has a unitard lurking somewhere in her closet, just... more

"Shenoa Vild hates to wear makeup. Face goop is simply not for her. She happens to think she has a naturally healthy, vibrant complexion. After meeting her, I have to agree.
But Vild, a waitress, says her former boss had an entirely different opinion.
He wanted Vild to wear makeup.
She wouldn't.
So, she says, she got canned.
Vild had worked at Trophy's in Mission Valley for five years without wearing makeup. Apparently, for all that time, it didn't matter.
But the restaurant was sold earlier this year, and she says the new management wanted the women to doll up. Vild says she got the ax in late April when she wouldn't.
Employers have the right to do this. A few years ago, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that it is not discrimination for employers to make women wear makeup. (Who are these judges? Maybelline stockholders?)
But just because it's legal doesn't make it right.
Mark Oliver, the new owner, said he couldn't go into details as to what happened with Vild. Oliver did say she was the only employee who was unable to deal with the transition.
Still, “she's facing a real uphill battle,” said Peter Zschiesche, executive director of the Employee Rights Center in San Diego. Employers have wide latitude on hiring and firing, particularly when it comes to at-will, or nonunion, employees.
Vild makes good points about how makeup can be a pain and how it's not necessarily for her. It costs money and it takes time to put on. For the waiters, it's a different story. All they have to do is be clean-shaven.
Too bad the law doesn't support people like Vild."
Can you believe this?!?"Shenoa Vild hates to wear makeup. Face goop is simply not for her. She happens... more

An American artist who's spent the last 20 years making sculptures out of human skin is bringing his artworks to the UK for the first time.
Using skin donated by white men to medical science, Andrew Krasnow makes weird versions of ordinary objects like flags, boots, a map of America and even a lampshade - a "direct response to the belief that similar items made from the skin of Holocaust victims were found at Buchenwald concentration camp."
His work, he says, is a commentary on human cruelty and America's ethics and morality. An American artist who's spent the last 20 years making sculptures out of human... more
