Let’s point fingers! Ever wonder why games are still treated like a child’s medium? Well, part of that responsibility rests on the shoulders of Nintendo of America and the censorship it exhibited during the dominant period of the NES, Game Boy and SNES.
From the medium’s inception, Japan seemed to have no qualms in dealing with themes no heavier than those found in movies and TV, such violence and sexuality. However, NoA maintained strict rules and took great efforts stateside to keep games sterile and sanitized, as if intended for airings on Saturday mornings. Plenty of developers have come forward to bitch since the Big N vacated the throne, but we’ve taken that one step further and gathered visual evidence of all the naughtiness Nintendo of America never wanted you to see.Let’s point fingers! Ever wonder why games are still treated like a child’s... more

The portable Xbox is coming: That much, it seems, is no longer up for debate. The question is when such a device will arrive. In an interview posted today by gaming site Kikizo, Shane Kim, a Microsoft corporate VP, confirmed perpetual rumors that the company's popular console will finally be getting a handheld counterpart.

Video game characters need lovin', too. After saving the princess, freeing the world from the tyranny of an evil despot, or halting the spread of a zombie virus, it'd be nice for our polygonal saviors to have a warm body to snuggle up with in bed. Thanks to the Internet and the online meat market that is Craigslist, every character -- from the completely artificial to the artificially aged due to a mutated, genetically engineered virus -- has a shot at getting some. So we decided to post some personal ads as if written by your favorite game characters. And if you think that's crazy, wait until you read some of the actual replies we received.

So Pepsi, MTV and Rock Band have this really cool thing going on where you can win a Moonman at this year's Video Music Awards. A 100% authentic as real as the ones everyone else gets.
All you have to do is play Rock Band, record it, upload it and enter to win by July 28.
Of course, if you really want to win, it pays to be really creative and original.
And this is where Current viewers have an advantage. (Since you're all the awesome creative types)
The more like a music video you make your video, the more likely people are to vote for it, the more likely you are to win and hit the stage at the VMA's to accept your award.
Or, if you're too lazy to enter, you can always just go to the Pepsi Rock Band site, watch videos and vote.
(I think it goes without saying that my vote goes to the band BFF from Los Angeles for their creative use of the ever-popular yet by no means overdone "hot chicks in schoolgirl outfits" motif)So Pepsi, MTV and Rock Band have this really cool thing going on where you can win a... more

A PlayStation 3 gamer has filed suit in U.S. District Court in California, alleging that SCEA suppressed his free speech rights and caused him pain and suffering by banning his account on the PlayStation Network.
In a complaint filed on July 6th, Erik Estavillo of San Jose writes that he his disabled by a variety of disorders; among these are agoraphobia, a fear of crowds:
"The pain and suffering was caused by the defendant, Sony, banning the plaintiff's account on the PlayStation 3 Network, in which the plaintiff relies on to socialize with other people, since it's the only way the plaintiff can truly socialize since he also suffers from Agoraphobia..."
Estavillo's issues with SCEA apparently stem from his play of the PS3 hit Resistance: Fall of Man:
"The ban is supposedly due to the behavior of the plaintiff when he plays the video game "Resistance: Fall of Man," which Sony owns and employs moderators for its online play. These moderators kick and ban players that they feel are deserving; though their biases to a player seem to be what determines the kick or ban...
The plaintiff was exercising his First Amendment Rights to Freedom of Speech in the game's public forum when he was banned from, not only [Resistance], but also banned from playing all other games online via the PlayStation Network..."
Estavillo also claims that the PSN ban amounts to a theft of his pre-paid points:
"The plaintiff...cannot access [his] money when a moderator from Resistance and Sony gives a player a arbitrary wide-range ban... which in essence, is stealing money from the player..."
Estavillo also argues that the EULA for online play of Resistance is ineffective in blocking players under the game's recommended age of 17, although it's unclear how this fits into his claim.
In his request to the court, Estavillo, who appears to be unrepresented, asks that SCEA be enjoined from banning players. He also seeks $55,000 in punitive damages.
To date, SCEA has not filed a response with the Court. GamePolitics has requested comment on the lawsuit from SCEA.
---
No, we don't know what this guy did to get banned, but chances are he had a pretty foul mouth and/or said some horrible racist/homophobic/xenophobic things.
I should note that while the First Amendment holds true to the government's actions, I don't think it goes the same way for private companies (that can uphold any rules they want).

You can tell a lot about a person from their Twitter feed. The briefness of the updates means that only the most important points and thoughts are distilled onto the page. And given the frequency of tweets, it's often possible to decipher the internal ebb and flow of a person's entire day with a bit of between-line reading.
Game characters? They're no different to anyone else. They might have a reputation for being two-dimensional, but the following Twitter feeds open the minutiae of their lives right up.You can tell a lot about a person from their Twitter feed. The briefness of the... more

Bear with me as this is quite geeky. In a nut shell a company from Israel has developed a set top box which they say can deliver games on demand of a quality equal to a PS3 or Xbox 360:
"Playcast is aiming to bring PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 quality games, on demand, to ordinary Cable or Telco set top boxes via standard cable telephone lines. Their proprietary tech uses "ultra high-speed processing to handle off-the-shelf games and distribute the game's audio visual output as digital video."
The first large-scale trial of this new technology – which many are claiming could well mark the end of the traditional games console over the next few years – is being launched in association with Israeli cable network, Hot."
So is this the end for consoles as we know them? Discuss :)Bear with me as this is quite geeky. In a nut shell a company from Israel has... more

I have been reading things on the internet of getting easy Wii Points with Pepsi. Well, I made some visual proof showing this process as I didn't believe it myself.
Pepsi has some deal going on with Rock Band, every cap has a code, you enter the code into http://pepsi.yahoo.com/rockband/ and use that code to play for prizes. One of the prizes is a free Rock Band track. Every code has got me a free track, except for the last few, which I now used to get Wii Points (side note: I was a fool and also used two caps to attempt to win an actual prize, why, I have no clue).
Explanation: When you do this on the Xbox 360 or PS3, it gives you a direct download code for your chosen track. The thing is, with the Wii, there is no direct download codes, everything is on the Wii Point system, thus, they give you 200 points for your track. These points of course can be used on any Virtual Console or WiiWare title.

So it looks like a price has been set for the thing that kept you from falling asleep last night – Modern Warfare 2’s Prestige Edition (yes, the one with the night-vision goggles) will have a suggested retail of $149 according to Infinity Ward’s Twitter account.
For that, you get the previously mentioned goggles and molded head/stand to display them, an art book, a token to download the original Call of Duty on PSN/XBLA (with multiplayer)….oh, and you also get Modern Warfare 2, I guess.
But back to those goggles for a moment. Anyone in the know is aware that these things usually run in the thousands of dollars. Should we then assume that these are going to be like Fisher Price's My First NVGs? One would have to imagine that for around $100, the construction can't be that great - to say nothing of the optics themselves. So it looks like a price has been set for the thing that kept you from falling asleep... more

Daylight, melee weapons, roving witches, and that's only the beginning. If you were worried that L4D 2 is just a cash-in then you can stop worrying right now. It may seem too soon, for a sequel, but with all then new features and content that Valve is packing in to this one.
Firstly we have the introduction of daylight. First of all, note that night time has not been replaced. While there is at least one campaign that takes place entirely during the daylight hours, at least one other one (out of five) will take place entirely at night. Mostly however, the campaigns will mix and match, and as you may have guessed, the infected are much more active during the day (including the witch).
And speaking of the infected, there is now a larger variety of them. Firstly the ranks of the boss infected will be growing, starting with the charger, who will run up and grab a survivor, then proceed to smash them into the ground repeatedly. Possibly more excitingly, the regular infected will be gaining some variety, starting with infected scientists who will be resistant to flames. That power could indeed come in handy for them, as the survivors will now be able to find incendiary rounds scattered in various places.
Last, but certainly not least, the finales are getting an upgrade. While the old finales were undeniably exiting, it was easy enough to simply find one good spot and hold out right there for the whole thing. Not in L4D 2 though. This time around the finales will find our would be heroes on the move during the finale, thus precluding the holdout tactic. In short the new moving finale promises to be far more exiting that it's predecessor.
Unfortunately all the good does come with some bad, in the form of a melee system that while a cool idea, is kinda pointless since you drop the weapon when you switch or heal, and the weapons themselves can be slow as molasses. Furthermore the character models seem less than inspiring.
While there is some bad, there seems to be more good. Personally I can't wait for the release of L4D 2.Daylight, melee weapons, roving witches, and that's only the beginning. If you were... more
