Where's all this from? (AKA an explanation of the above chart for stat junkies only): In a move somewhat surprising for the generally secretive company, Nintendo makes all of this data public. Any Wii owner can download the Nintendo Channel to their Wii and begin browsing for games. Any game that has been played enough times has usage stats listed for it, contributed by anyone who chose to share their data with the channel. The sample size that the channel tracks is pretty good. We calculate it by looking at Wii Sports usage numbers, which show that more than 62 million sessions of that game have been played by Nintendo Channel users, for an average of 27.84 sessions per player. That divides to more than 2.2 million Wii Sports users whose gaming has been tracked by the channel. Since almost all Wii Sports owners would be Wii users, we will venture that as many as 2.2 million people are contributing stats. That is up from 2.1 million people when these numbers were ran for April 1.Where's all this from? (AKA an explanation of the above chart for stat junkies... more

In what has been the most eventful week 3D Realms has experienced in years, it seems another ex-developer has released more information regarding Duke Nukem: Forever. Caution: there is fully animated nudity in the video.
There has yet to be any confirmation saying if this is, in fact actual footage from the game. It does look convincing, as many of the monsters are identical to what was displayed in the leaked artwork earlier this week.In what has been the most eventful week 3D Realms has experienced in years, it seems... more

It's official. Pokémon Gold and Silver will be remade — something that was hinted at last weekend on Japan's Pokémon Sunday TV program.
The tenth anniversary remakes will be called Pokémon Heart Gold and Poké Soul Silver — much akin to the Fire Red and Leaf Green Gameboy Advance remakes of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green.

The footage shows a woman dressed very much like Jade was dressed in the 2008 announcement teaser for Beyond Good & Evil 2, running through a rundown looking town, avoiding police, climbing on top of a building and then making her ultimate escape via an orange helicopter. The footage shows a woman dressed very much like Jade was dressed in the 2008... more

Activision is reportedly in early discussions to turn their hit World War II series Call of Duty into a movie, along with the wildly popular online fantasy game World of Warcraft . The news comes from a Hollywood Reporter article.
Legendary Pictures (300, The Dark Knight) is the company that holds the rights to World of Warcraft, but they haven’t done much with it so far. Guitar Hero, the reality TV series? It's becoming a possibility, says the Hollywood Reporter. The Reporter notes that Activision Blizzard is looking to turn several games into TV and film properties, including potential films based on World of Warcraft and Call of Duty.
Asked about these possibilities, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick wouldn't go into any specifics on World of Warcraft or Call of Duty, but did tell the Reporter, "[Guitar Hero] might make for a good TV show or a good concert tour," hinting that active discussions were underway for such a project.
The Reporter also says that "people familiar with the discussions" connected to Guitar Hero have said a reality series of some sort is being considered, based around the game.Guitar Hero, the reality TV series? It's becoming a possibility, says the... more

After what seems like an eternity waiting and the internet rumour-mill churning out speculation left, right and centre, Activision's announced that DJ Hero is due to be released sometime in the Autumn. (read: probably *just* in time for Xmas...)
Rumours have been circulating for months as to who's been involved in the game's development with hip-hop legend DJ Shadow and Dance superstar Tiesto both being rumoured as helping out. But, according to Activision's press release, DJ Hero will include "hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance," and will let turntablists create "original mixes" of their songs. Although they haven't let on how the hell you're supposed to control it...
Other titles Activision are lining up are a "family-friendly Band Hero game," as well as a Guitar Hero 5 followup, all due for release sometime this Autumn.
Is DJ Hero gonna be as good as everyone hopes? After what seems like an eternity waiting and the internet rumour-mill churning out... more

Final Fantasy XIII is a Japanese-made game. It is also a role-playing-game. Yet, don't tell FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase that it's a JRPG
"There's a trend these days to strictly categorize games as western RPGs or Japanese RPGs, but Final Fantasy is something that we don't try to categorize as either/or," Kitase told new outlet EDGE. Understandable that the man doesn't want his game pigeonholed; however, it is Final Fantasy — a game for many that epitomizes JRPG.
"For us," Kitase added, "the game straddles genre."Final Fantasy XIII is a Japanese-made game. It is also a role-playing-game. Yet,... more

Sony is preparing to launch VidZone, a free music video streaming service that will exclusively hit the PlayStation 3 this Summer. It'll be integrated into the XMB menu and will allegedly feature thousands of videos that won't cost a single thin dime to watch.
The bigwigs in charge claim that VidZone is "backed by several Major record labels as well as thousands of Independent labels", and will be available in the music section of the PS3's XMB menu. Users will be able to compile and save their own video library, which will feature custom playlists that can be stopped, skipped and rewound at leisure. PSP owners will be able to create these playlists on their handhelds as well, which will then be streamed on the PS3.
VidZone CTO Michael Russo says that VidZone will be "one of the world's largest collection of music videos, allowing consumers to stream what they want, when they want it."
This actually sounds really amazing, provided they get a wide variety of music and not just a load of SugaBabes and Girls Aloud bullsh*t. Stream me some nineties Eurobeat videos and this is definitely one feature I can happily get behind.

"Amazon wants your used games, it's ready to pay your shipping costs, and you'll get an Amazon gift card back in the bargain. All you have to do is identify which of your games are worth $10 or more (to Amazon), pack them up and send them off, and Amazon handles the rest. What's more, the company's even willing to pay you a buck or two on top of GameStop's buy prices for the exact same games.
Sound like a sweet deal?" More at link.
