PGA legend Tiger Woods stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in an attempt to salvage his reputation after Fallon reportedly trounced him in a three hole match of his namesake golf game earlier Thursday in Times Square. The pair squared off on national television in a one-hole rematch in the Wii version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. Wii MotionPlus was, of course, being used.
Thankfully, this video is far less awkward and painful to watch than the Kudo Tsunoda/Project Natal clip from earlier this month. Check it out, courtesy of Hulu.comPGA legend Tiger Woods stopped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in an attempt to... more

I’ve spent the last several days carefully crafting a little something I like to call “A Foul Fowl.” It’s a game that requires players to traverse a strange planet and get to the bottom of a vast conspiracy. There are innocent lives to be saved. There are mutant farm animals to be subdued. There is lots and lots of shooting to be done.
Or at least, I hope there will be by the time I’m finally finished. I have to admit, I’ve been a bit obsessed with “A Foul Fowl” which, to be honest, is not exactly a full game per se, but rather one mission within the larger game known as “Spore Galactic Adventures.” Still, I can’t stop tinkering with it. I want to get my mission just right before I share it with the world. And share it I will.
“Galactic Adventures,” which launched this week, is the first expansion for “Spore” and one that gives players the tools they need to create their own gameplay adventures and to then share those adventures so that other people can play them. It’s also the latest entry in the growing gaming phenomenon known as “user-generated content.” Increasingly, gamers aren’t just “players,” they’re often “creators” as well. “Player expression” and “user-generated content” were two of the phrases buzzing about this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. It seems game makers everywhere are trying to come up with ways to help game players unleash their inner creative genius.
In April, the online game “City of Heroes” launched “Mission Architect” — an expansion that gives players the tools to create missions and then publish them for others to play. At E3, Nintendo showed off “WarioWare D.I.Y.” — an upcoming DS game that will let players design their own micro-games from scratch and then share them with others. Meanwhile, next week, Microsoft will launch “Kodu,” a programming tool that allows even novice players to create and share their very own Xbox 360 games.

Blame it on the Internet … and YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Everywhere you look these days, media consumers are becoming media makers. It seems everyone wants to create stuff and share it with the world … gamers included. They Got what they deserved
CARROLLTON, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Police said Wednesday that three men were arrested for a scam involving Xbox games. Investigators said the men bought the games, and returned them to the stores with blank CDs inside.
Carrollton police said the scheme was only discovered after area Wal-Mart customers who bought Xbox 360 games got them home and discovered a blank CD inside.
Police said the actual game was removed by three men, 18-year-old Tyrell Myers, 29-year-old Levar Thornton and 19-year-old Michael Cunningham.
Investigators said the trio walked into Wal-Mart stores, bought the Xbox games and then carefully opened them to remove the game DVD inside.
"They then would seal it up carefully and [post them] on eBay for sale," said Detective Black Hitchcock of the Carrollton Police Department.
Hitchcock said Thornton was the ringleader and was seen on surveillance video from the Carrollton Wal-Mart store.
Investigators said Thornton made thousands of dollars reselling the games on eBay.
When police arrested the three men, they said thy found nearly 400 postal receipts, all to eBay customers who unknowingly bought stolen games.
"They were packaged and ready to go," said Hitchcock.
Police said a Wal-Mart store in Villa Rica was just one of 11 Wal-Mart stores visited by the men. According to police, the crew bough and returned Xbox games nearly 200 times.
The suspects face charges of theft by deception, but police said the investigation is ongoing and far-reaching. Police said they have evidence that the games were mailed across the country and into Canada.
Police said charges were pending for a fourth person they think was involved in selling the games on eBay. Wal-Mart estimated their losses to be around $10,000.They Got what they deserved

Opinion: We're barely getting comfortable with the idea of HDTV gaming, with hi-def consoles and powerful widescreen televisions presenting us with a rich and detailed environment in which to play the latest games. As always though, the television industry is looking at the next big leap and this time the general consensus is that it'll be to 3D. Interestingly though, the industry is looking to gaming giants rather than Hollywood blockbusters to generate momentum in this emerging technology.
The Guardian, a newspaper in the UK, poses an interesting question though: do we really need 3D TV to enhance our gaming experiences? Are there any titles or concepts that would use this technology to create new gameplay experiences? Or would we see the same tried and tested techniques for presenting environments, with the only difference being the scenes projected in three dimensions rather than two? Just to be clear here, we're not talking about taking a 3D scene and rendering it on a 2D screen - consoles have been doing this for years. 3D TV is all about creating scenes that look 3-dimensional, like the cinema films that require you to wear those dorky red and green glasses. The technology has moved on since then, with glasses not always being necessary.
For most of us though, 3D TV is only part of a future gaming experience with motion capture tools such as Natal, together with augmented reality concepts such as Eye Toy completing the experience. As the ability to present a game world improves, so must the ways in which we as gamers can interact with it. After all, it would feel a shame to have a richly detailed and beautifully rendered landscape displayed in true 3D, only for us to be left to interact with it using a lump of plastic. Of course, our natural reaction would be to prod, poke and pinch this environment, and for the game to respond in turn to our actions. Luckily for us, it feels like all these technologies are coming together at the same time.
So, do you agree with The Guardian's piece, in that there's no real need for 3DTV in gaming? Or do you feel that this is a game-changing technology that would redefine how we play? Maybe you feel that it's part of a collection of emerging technologies that will together change the gaming landscape? Only one thing's for certain: time will reveal all.Opinion: We're barely getting comfortable with the idea of HDTV gaming, with... more

ZeniMax Media, the parent company of publisher Bethesda Softworks, today announced it has completed the acquisition of legendary game studio, id Software, creators of world-renowned games such as DOOM, QUAKE, Wolfenstein, and its upcoming title, RAGE.
The acquisition by ZeniMax Media joins together two of the finest, most respected videogame developers in the world, combining the first person shooter (FPS) expertise of id Software with acclaimed role playing game (RPG) developer Bethesda Game Studios – creators of the 2008 Game of the Year, Fallout 3, and the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Bethesda Softworks will publish the titles of id Software other than upcoming releases previously committed to other publishers.
Founded in 1991, id Software established itself as an industry leader with some of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed video games of all time. id Software created the original first-person shooter, Wolfenstein 3D, and subsequently set new standards in the genre with the blockbuster releases of its DOOM and QUAKE titles. In addition, id Software developed cutting edge, proprietary technology with the id Tech engine which powers many notable FPS titles, and continues to make great advances in game technology under the direction of John Carmack, one of the country’s technology leaders and a member of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) Hall of Fame.

If you're still hanging on the development status of Duke Nukem Forever, developers 3D Realms claim the game is still being worked on.
The disclosure can be found within court documents relating to the franchise, and specifically reads "[3D Realms/Apogee Ltd.] admits that it has continually worked on the development of the DNF for many years, and continues to do so".
In addition to this reveal, it seems publisher Take-Two began development of another Duke Nukem game, Duke Begins, in 2007. This title, however, was canned in April 2009, right around the time the publisher's support of Duke Nukem Forever dried up, leading to speculation that "Duke Begins" was as much a bargaining chip in negotiations with 3D Realms as it was a legitimate product. If you're still hanging on the development status of Duke Nukem Forever,... more

Details on Rockstar Games' third Max Payne, which movies our anti-hero from the dank city streets to a more tropical environment, have slowly leaked out, thanks to a cover story in the latest issue of Game Informer. Today, we have high-resolution screens of Max Payne 3 for the first time, courtesy of Rockstar.
Some food for thought: why are they calling this Max Payne? Doesn't look like Max Payne to me! As usual, Rockstar is keeping mostly quiet. Hopefully, as we learn more about their decision to pick up where Remedy Entertainment left off, we'll better understand where this fits with the other Max Payne games.

It's confirmed: the students at the IT University of Copenhagan are total nerds. I mean that in the best way, by the way. After having their own Final Fantasy and Portal themed bar nights complete with tasty themed drinks, they've decided to do it again -- this time with a Chrono Trigger theme.
Drinks features included the Gato, Frog (pictured above), Spekkio, Nu, Ayla, 65,000,000 BC, Marle, R-66Y, Millenium Fair, Magus, Chrono, and of course Lavos, which includes vodka, rum, Bailey's, Cointreau, ginger ale and more. My stomach throbs just thinking about it.
Hit the website up here if you want to nab some of the drnk recipes for your own consumption. For the next party, I suggest a Metal Gear theme!

Microsoft's Project Natal has been getting some of the best mainstream coverage to come out of E3, thanks to "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and, now, Stephen Colbert. He mocked the tech last night during his "Bears & Balls" schtick.
But The Colbert Report's teasing of the Xbox 360 motion-control camera tech wasn't the most earth-shattering portion of last night's episode. Nor was it the show's assertion that video games are more addictive than chocolate covered meth cigarettes. It was the debut of the "next next generation" of Xbox technology, the X-Xbox, a device that requires no controller, no screen and no console. Amazing!
No new hardware coming, eh, Microsoft? We can see it with our own two eyes. Can't you?
Colbert's dig at Project Natal is after this—if you're living in Hulu and Comedy Central-approved territories.

Rare dropped us a line to let us know that they were now active on Twitter, posting haiku movie reviews, new game teases, and fishing for game designers who might be interested in Project Natal.
It isn't exactly rare for a game developer to show up on Twitter these days, so why is Rare so keen to get the information out? Perhaps it's their way of reminding us that they're actively working with Microsoft's Project Natal, as seen in the tweet they pointed out specifically in their email?
"Rare is recruiting designers. Excited by Natal? Got loads of cool new ideas? Think differently to others? Take a look on our website."
Or perhaps they just want to make sure we don't miss out on their awesome haiku skills?
"Red Cliff haiku review... Running time: six years / Even spears through chests get dull / John Woo, moar guns plz"
Or maybe they just want to tease fans with unannounced projects?
"Three slices so far of Nic's homemade cake to mark his nine years' service at Rare - good man. Nic's team is now hard at work on"
Whatever the case may be, they certainly seem to be having fun with it, so you might want to keep track of Rare's new Twitter [http://twitter.com/RareLtd]. Who knows when they'll announce a Project Natal-enabled sequel to Killer Instinct?Rare dropped us a line to let us know that they were now active on Twitter, posting... more

Rob Burkinshaw has created a project called Alice and Kev, an experiment involving three homeless sims in the game Sims 3.
They are homeless in that they live in a house with no walls and sleep on park benches. They have no source of food except for things given to them from other Sims or stolen in the course of the day. They can’t get clean in their own home - there’s no bathroom - and Alice’s sleep is interrupted constantly by Kev’s rants.

Megaton. Acti Blizz head Bobby Kotick’s said he may stop supporting Sony with software unless it drops PS3’s price.
“They have to cut the price, because if they don’t, the attach rates [the number of games each console owner buys] are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony,” he said.
Asked when Sony titles may be pulled, Kotick added: “When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console — and the PSP [portable] too.”
Wow.
“Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation,” he said.
Kotick added that Acti Blizz paid $500 million to Sony in royalties and other goods last year, which “probably still worked out at 400 percent of the profit they made”.Megaton. Acti Blizz head Bobby Kotick’s said he may stop supporting Sony with... more

It's pretty obvious when you think about it. Although the iPhone 3GS contains more grunt and increased storage, developers are going to hold back on releasing 3GS exclusives until there's a sufficient installed base.

WIRED magazine: "So here’s my proposal. Every game, in addition to the standard easy, medium and expert modes, must have a “1988 mode.” In 1988 mode, you don’t get to save the game, ever. If you lose, you start over from the beginning of the game. Every hit from an enemy reduces your hit points by 25 percent, minimum. Extra lives and hit points are tough to come by, not handed out like Mardi Gras beads to bosomy exhibitionists...
Only those who complete a game in 1988 mode get to call themselves “hard-core.” Everyone else, from tourney winners to Minesweeper addicts, is a “casual gamer.” Gotta draw the line somewhere."WIRED magazine: "So here’s my proposal. Every game, in addition to the... more

The key appeal of DS platformer Scribblenauts lies in your ability to conjure around 10,000 items to aid you in your quest. But how did the developers come up with so many of the things?
After all, you try and think of items you can use in a game. Off the top of your head, you could maybe come up with, what, 50? 150? 1500? That's a long way from 10,000. Creative director Jeremiah Slaczka, from developers 5th Cell, says that five "lucky" staffers got to spend six whole months doing nothing but reading...stuff.
We've actually had five people and all they did is they went through dictionaries and Wikipedia and encyclopedias and anything you can think of for six months, that's all they did every day during the week.
