I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it for myself, the trailer for SyFy’s Mega Piranha is going to be a mighty Oscar contender. ‘80s pop songbird Tiffany stars in the network’s CGI stunner flick, premiering on April 10. And as the tagline says “They were created to save mankind. Something went wrong,” I am sure you will agree: SOMETHING REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WENT HORRIBLY WRONG–and I don’t know what would go at the top of the list. ‘
Here’s a plot summary:
In “Mega Piranha,” a mutant strain of giant ferocious piranha escape from the Amazon and eat their way toward Florida. Apparently a kick to the head is the only way to stop them.

'Caprica,' a prequel to 'Battlestar Galactica,' is a family drama that deals with the ethical issues of artificial intelligence
Science fiction's foundations are built on the premise of noble scientists creating fabulous technologies for the betterment of mankind.
"Caprica," the new science-fiction drama from the creators of "Battlestar Galactica," differs from that idea.
"It's about how groundbreaking technology often has an engine -- personal motive -- that's built on not so high-minded principles, like greed and envy," said "Caprica" executive producer David Eick, from Los Angeles.
The series kicks off at 9 p.m. Friday on SyFy.
Eick described "Caprica" as a science-fiction drama and family saga that explores the morality of artificial intelligence. The show is from the same creative team that was behind "Battlestar Galactica," which critics hailed as one of the best science-fiction series television has ever offered. "Battlestar" ended its run on SyFy last year.
The new series takes place 58 years before the robotic Cylon race's attack on the Twelve Colonies in an attempt to exterminate its humans creators. The saga of a ragtag fleet of human survivors fleeing the Cylons and searching for a haven was at the center of "Battlestar

I’m a believer in the wonders of SyFy’s new series, “Warehouse 13.”
Oh, I won’t lie to you: there were a few moments in the early episodes where my wife, my daughter and I weren’t sure how much longer we’d stick with it. The show took a little time to get its bearings, convincing itself and the rest of us what kind of treasures awaited the patient.
But over the course of its last four or five weeks, “Warehouse 13″—the place where America’s greatest secrets are housed, its mysteries answered, its riddles questioned—has captured our loyalty and respect.
AUDIO EXCERPT: “Any show needs to find out what it is. Until the actors can get to know who their characters are and who they are to one another, it takes a little while. Take any good show—go back and watch Frazier, Friends, Cheers, Seinfeld—it takes a little while.”
One of the big reasons for this—according to the women in my house—is the appeal of Eddie McClintock as Pete Latimer, one half of the Warehouse 13 investigative team. McClintock’s character is part Mulder from “The X-Files,” a dash of Captain Jonathan Archer from “Star Trek Enterprise,” and a measure of the lighter, boyish side of George Clooney in the Oceans movie series.
If you haven’t stepped into the Warehouse yet, take advantage of Hulu.com and catch up. The first season finale airs tonight, Thursday, September 22 at 9 p.m., and I know it will be a blast.By BOB ANDELMAN

The network formerly known as Sci Fi has changed it's name to SyFy. But it's still got all sorts of crappy CGI monsters that will make you laugh.

NBC Universal's Sci-f... (cough, sorry) Syfy announced Tuesday that they have picked up a 90-minute pilot Alphas (working title) from the writer of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "The Incredible Hulk", Zak Penn.
Alphas is a story of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills, uncoving what the secret service cannot be able to solve. ABC originally commisioned it as a 6-part series when it was titled "Section 8", but because of the US writers strike, the series was derailed.NBC Universal's Sci-f... In some universe, the name “Syfy” is less geeky than the name “Sci Fi.” Dave Howe, president of the Sci Fi Channel, is betting it’s this one.
To that end, the 16-year-old network—owned by NBC Universal—plans to announce that Syfy is its new name March 16 at its upfront presentation to advertisers in New York.

“What we love about this is we hopefully get the best of both worlds,” Mr. Howe said. “We’ll get the heritage and the track record of success, and we’ll build off of that to build a broader, more open and accessible and relatable and human-friendly brand.”
Sci Fi is coming off the best year in its history. In primetime it ranked 13th in total viewers among ad-supported cable networks in 2008. It’s a top-10 network in both adults 18 to 49 (up 4%) and adults 25 to 54 (up 6%).
During its fourth-quarter earnings call, parent General Electric said Sci Fi racked up a double-digit increase in operating earnings despite the beginnings of the recession. In some universe, the name “Syfy” is less geeky than the name “Sci... more

Craig Ferguson is back to kick Jimmy Fallon's ass. But what's going on between Trent Reznor and Chris Cornell...and Jesus? But it's also the battle of the The Rock vs. Goku as Race to Witch Mountain takes on Dragonball: Evolution.
Sam Raimi wants a new Evil Dead (with or without Bruce Campbell) and Bryan Fuller (saving heroes) is asking JJ Abrams to allow him to make a new Star Trek series. And believe it or not, the following movies are planned to be made: MacGyver, Stretch Armstrong, Monopoly, Candy Land, and Ouija.
