What more do you need on a grey, wet, depressing Monday than the joyous news that one of the best bands of the 90s are back together!?Pulp, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, have announced a series of festival appearances for next year, including London's Wireless and Spain's Primavera Sound.A press release distributed this morning said:
"Pulp have decided to get together and play some concerts next summer. The shows will involve all the original members of the band (Nick Banks, Jarvis Cocker, Candida Doyle, Steve MacKey, Russell Senior and Mark Webber) and they will play songs from all periods of their career. Yes, that means they'll be playing your favourites."
A spokesperson for the band said: "This will be the first time that all the original Pulp members have been on stage together since 24th August 1996."Pulp formed in Sheffield in 1978, establishing a cult fanbase before breaking into the mainstream with their 1995 single Common People and went on to release seven albums, before the final lineup of the band went on hiatus in 2002. The band will make their comeback performance at Spain's Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in May next year, before performing at Wireless in July. The group, who headlined Glastonbury in 1995, enjoyed their biggest successes at the height of the Britpop era in the mid-90s, while fifth album Different Class won the Mercury prize in 1996.In October last year, Jarvis denied plans for a reunion, saying: "Pulp have no plans to get back together," while in 2007 he joked: "Hell would have to freeze over first!... There is no barrier other than the fact that at the moment I can't really see a point."The comeback will feature the hit-making line-up of frontman Jarvis, drummer Nick Banks, keyboard player Candida Doyle, bass guitarist Steve Mackey, guitarist and violinist Russell Senior and guitarist Mark Webber.Details of when tickets go on sale have yet to be released, although Pulp have directed fans to pulppeople.com. But funnily and slightly frustrating the the site only shows a series of messages such as: "Is this the best news you've ever heard?" and "Is this just a publicity stunt?".With further details of their reunion shows to be released, the band sign off their press release (which you can view on Facebook) with memorable question: "Do you remember the first time?"
