Apparition has debuted the new teaser poster for Floria Sigismondi's The Runaways, the Joan Jett biopic starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. MTV revealed the faded, vintage teaser poster with flares of a grindhouse / exploitation style, fitting considering the band hit big in the 70s. And if you don't get what's going on in this, that's one big cherry bomb, which is a play on their very popular song "Cherry Bomb." It's a great poster for a movie we're hoping is great as well. After its debut at Sundance on Sunday, we'll find out whether it really is or not. We also featured the teaser trailer back in December. Check out the poster below!

The studio-trashing, glam-filled trailer for the upcoming Runaways biopic debuted today through MTV Movie News, promising a thankful cinematic respite from the cotton candy-colored world of High School Musical. Ten years ago a new generation was introduced to Joan Jett with the inclusion of “Bad Reputation” in the teen flick Ten Things I Hate About You, and then in 2002 with Britney Spears’ pouty, lackluster cover of “I Love Rock And Roll.” Now a generation of Twilight-obsessed adolescents is going further back thanks to Kristin Stewart and Dakota Fanning. Before Joan Jett And The Blackhearts there was The Runaways, a pioneering all-female rock band that found mainstream success in the male-dominated world of rock 'n' roll, and paved the way for future rock and punk acts, all in the few short years between 1975 and 1979.

Now Apparition has added another intriguing film to its collection: Floria Sigsimondi’s biopic The Runaways, starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.
The film follows the travails of Joan Jett and Lita Ford’s first band, The Runaways. Kristen Stewart plays Jett and Dakota Fanning plays singer Cherie Currie; Scout Taylor-Compton is Lita Ford. Apparition chief Bob Berney told THR the film is “really a story of the two girls, Joan and Cherie. [Floria] did it really stylized, and it’s done in a real indie spirit, which I think is the spirit of the original group and Joan’s group. It fit with how we wanted to market it.”
Apparition sounds like they’re ready to go into Sundance will all guns blazing to get people to know about the movie. “…with that cast,” Berney says, “we’ll get so much interest and publicity that I think it’s better to have the plan and be ready to go and utilize the launch in a way that really helps the ultimate film launch.”

I was momentarily confused when I saw Variety reporting that Halloween’s Scout Taylor-Compton had been cast as Lita Ford in The Runaways. Because a couple of weeks ago, Alessandra Torresani was cast in the role. Variety mentions nothing of the fact that Taylor-Compton would be replacing another actress, but on June 9 Torresani was pretty clear with MTV: “We just closed everything…I’m playing Lita Ford,” she said. Pictures of a newly coiffed Kirsten Stewart have made their way to the 'net. She's playing Joan Jett in an upcoming biopic of her band The Runaways and thus has donned an 80's style shaggy mullet affair (which I secretly love and wish I could pull off).
She looks the part...I just can't get the insipid voiceovers from 'Twilight' out of my head though. Maybe they shouldn't let her speak and she should just mime over stock footage of Joan talking.
