An updated review of Michael Bay's first Transformers sequel, Revenge of the Fallen. I've been wanting to give this film a proper review that was in the comfort of my own home rather than at a midnight screening for months now and needless to say it didn't hold up too well.An updated review of Michael Bay's first Transformers sequel, Revenge of the... more

If it's Tuesday, that means we have a few new DVDs roaming the streets and desperate to find a good home. But how do you know if that DVD picking up special features in the alley near The Corner is safe? Well, thanks to our friends at Rotten Tomatoes, we've got you covered.
On a side note, I feel like Connor should trademark that phrase at some point. But let's get on with the DVDs!
The Fresh:
-Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Those Aren't Pillows Edition) is the classic story of holiday travel made hilarious by John Candy and Steve Martin. Now with more special features!
-Beauty in Trouble is a Czech "dramedy" about a woman choosing between suitors.
-Monsoon Wedding hits Criterion status.
-Easy Rider is on Blu-Ray. So, get your motor running. Now click here.
The Rotten:
-Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is out to remind you that Optimus Prime'll rip off your face.
-Cheri is also out. Check out what Ellen and Brett originally said.
-Blood: the Last Vampire sucked. Once again, click here.
-Love 'n Dancing is a low-rent version of Dirty Dancing, which says a lot.
The Bland:
-The Moon in the Gutter has five reviews. All are dead links.
-Pandemic was only seen by one critic and averages 2.8 stars on Netflix out of 68 reviews. So there.
-Uninvited is about a mutant cat that kills people. Sounds win/win.
-Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead got released on Blu-Ray, not in theaters and screened for free last night at Screamfest LA. So, you know, don't buy this. It'll be on SyFy by December.

Shockingly, this short clip at what could've been this weekend's Box Office Smash would have spared us the introduction of "The Jigga-bots," an ungodly running time and would've been infinitely more interesting than the final product.
But maybe that's just us.

Thankfully, Armond White comes in to settle the critical debate about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen once and for all:
WHY WASTE SPLEEN on Michael Bay? He’s a real visionary—perhaps mindless in some ways (he’s never bothered filming a good script), but Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is more proof he has a great eye for scale and a gift for visceral amazement. Bay’s ability to shoot spectacle makes the Ridley-Tony-Jake Scott family look like cavemen.
But it gets better:
Bay is an ideal director to realize this peculiar genre, which remakes the surfeit of adolescent commercial media as a means of multimedia gratification. These cars, trucks, motorcycles and planes—both human-friendly Autobots and dastardly Decepticons—metamorphose fast, but their transfiguration is like the mechanical toy descriptions in E.T.A. Hoffman: fantastic and uncanny.
Bay’s post-nuclear version of Hoffman’s The Nutcracker stirs emotion from our pop culture, industrial experience then connects to ancient spiritual myths (like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). It’s too much the production of industrialization to be considered magic, yet Bay’s sheer fascination with seeing is impressively communicated.
Of course, you could send us a webcam review even if you don't agree with the Best Critic Ever.

Luckily, if you were worried about bad jokes, autism being a laughing manner and--as Brett and Ellen note--there being Robots that Suck.
Then have we got the new trailer for you.
But most importantly, it's not like the shocking spoiler that Optimus Prime dies isn't hinted at all in this.[yahoo 13222062]

From the folks at PopBunker.net
http://www.popbunker.net/2009/12/2009-year-in-movies-57-61/
An excerpt:
#61 New Moon
Yes I saw it. I’ve not properly read any of the books, rather I’ve skimmed them as I often do popular books to see if the style jives with my taste. None of the “Twilight” books managed to make it on my reading list, but often books I can’t stand to read make good movies (for me Jane Austen novels are much better as BBC tv events). “New Moon,” however, can be defined by one word: Insipid. To wit:
–adjective
1. without distinctive, interesting, or stimulating qualities; vapid: an insipid personality.
2. without sufficient taste to be pleasing, as food or drink; bland: a rather insipid soup. – Dictionary.com
One could try to string together words to describe the movie. Like mopey and moody and bromidic. It’s not a good movie, it’s not a particularly well shot movie, and each character is only identifiable as a cliché of different shades of dreary or intense. Boring and muddled. My guess is that this franchise is only made for the fans it already has or there would otherwise be a greater attempt at making the story livelier (haha!) for greater appeal.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Blu-Ray giveaway at the link!
It’s easy to call a movie a big dumb summer blockbuster. However…
No, no… “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen” is a big dumb summer blockbuster.
There are no redeeming qualities associated with this movie. The acting is atrocious; the side anecdotes (like Sam’s mom somehow falling victim to pot brownies. She’s playing the mother to a college age boy. Didn’t she probably grow up in the 70s? She’s never heard of pot? I mean… never mind, this shit’s useless) are unrepentantly stupid; and the main plot could kill all plant life if released to the wild.
A lot of people either loved this movie or were kidnapped by sadistic aliens from the ocean of another planet and forced to see (and pay for) the movie in order to make the human population dumb enough to easily fall to an invasion (”Uuuh, them space cookies coming? Good! Mmmmm. Cookies”). I didn’t make it past the half-way point of this six hour movie, so maybe it got better. That being the case, you can all expect me to be the World Supreme Emperor when the rest of the populace is too dumb to rule themselves in the coming decade.
Anyway, we’re giving the Blu-Ray DVD away for free here at PopBunker.net. Here are the details. I guess this is part of my plan to lobotomize the human race.

First and foremost, our friends at Asylum have a valid point in making today A Day Without Megan Fox. Mainly, online sites cover her exploits far too much. After all, she’s the hot girl in a blockbuster science-fiction movie that is in fact terrible! Worse than that, she’s the hot girl who may secretly be fuming about her hot girl status.
Consider her spoilers about Jonah Hex (she dies) and revealing her creepy audition for Michael Bay (washing his car in a bikini.) The poor girl is constantly trotted around as she tries to make sense of this crazy little thing called life. And we feel for her.
That’s why any content posted on Current.com/Movies today will automatically change her name to SHE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED.First and foremost, our friends at Asylum have a valid point in making today A Day... more
