We’re a little late to the party posting these up, but they’re still worth watching. Prior to this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Squeenix hosted a Final Fantasy XIII premiere event in Japan. Industry coverage of it was mainly limited to people blogging about how awesome the new FFXIII trailer they showed was, followed by rambling, half-nonsensical attempts to describe it. In the end, it almost always came back to something along the lines of “Man, I wish you could see it!”
Well the trailer finaly got a full public viewing at TGS 2009, albeit in Japanese (naturally). For those without enough ranks in the Language: Moonspeak skill, it was just a lot of pretty moving pictures coupled with some vague notion of what was going on plot-wise, based on the emotions conveyed by the characters.
A hastily subbed version hit the net soon after, which at least gave Westerners a better idea of what was going on. Square followed that up by releasing a proper dub, using the localized English voice track. Now everything makes a lot more sense.
We’ve also included the original Japanese language version through the link for those who want to experience its “pure” form. After all, as anime snobs have been telling us for years, the Japanese language track is always superior. Enjoy! We’re a little late to the party posting these up, but they’re still worth... more

Some people may have rolled their eyes when it was announced for PSP, but Hideo Kojima wasn’t screwing around when he said that Peace Walker would be the next full entry in the Metal Gear saga.
Don’t believe me? Enjoy nine minutes plus of epic Tokyo Game Show trailer then, punk! This isn’t just some non-canon side story we’re looking at here – Kojima’s pulling out all the stops again, by the looks of it.
When you’re done drooling (or shrugging your shoulders, depending on which side of the Kojima fanboy fence you stand on), there’s some new screens through the link too. Some people may have rolled their eyes when it was announced for PSP, but Hideo Kojima... more

Get ready to d’awww.
Capcom released a short trailer this week in preparation for Tokyo Game Show with the first bit of gameplay footage from Okamiden. In it, we get to see an adorable Chibiterasu dispose of a couple of demons using the touch screen, as well as someone riding on her (or his) back. This is most likely Kuninushi, who we touched on in our previous article.Get ready to d’awww.

Hey Current dot com! Im super excited because on Monday I booked my flight to Japan! This will be my second year going and my first time going to Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Im also just going to hang out eat some katsu and drink some Chu-Hi. Since its 6 months off that gives me plenty of time to get excited but also plenty of time to learn some Japanese. Last year I knew how to say "excuse me" "hello" "thank you" and "this" and that was about it. So this year Id like to be able to function a bit better and not rely on my friends to translate everything for me. So, I picked up Japanese Coach for DS a while back and figured now was a good time to commit myself to it. Im going to practice it daily from now until the end of September and see if my DS can actually teach me to speak some Japanese.
What I want to know is this, has anyone else tried and really stuck with the language learning games for the DS? Have they helped you?
If you havent tried one or just havent stuck with it Im challenging you now to pick up one of the programs...a language one, a fitness one, a stop smoking one...whatever. Pick one up and stick with it for 6 months. Let me know how it goes and lets see if we really can use our gaming systems to learn with. I'll check back in occasionally to show off my Japanese skills and see how everyone else is doing.
Bonus points to anyone who picks up the Ninja Training game and actually becomes a ninja.Hey Current dot com! Im super excited because on Monday I booked my flight to Japan!... more
