It seems that the next iteration of everyone's favourite social networking site is drawing ever nearer, after software engineer Joe Hewitt tweeted that they'd finally submitted 'Facebook 3.0 for iPhone to Apple.
Facebook's software engineer Joe Hewitt updated his Twitter page saying "Just uploaded Facebook for iPhone 3.0 to the App Store for review. :)". Then going onto show there's no rest for the wicked, updating it saying "As excited as I am about 3.0, I am *really* excited about 3.1, which I get to start working on tomorrow. Tonight I can relax."
He also posted a list of the new features coming in 3.0:
1. The "new" News Feed
2. Like
3. Events (including the ability to RSVP)
4. Notes
5. Pages
6. Create new photo albums
7. Upload photos to any album
8. Zoom into photos
9. Easier photo tagging
10. Profile Pictures albums
11. A new home screen for easy access to all your stuff, search, and notifications
12. Add your favorite profiles and pages to the home screen
13. Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
14. Quickly call or text people right from the Friends page
15. Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call
I've never been a massive fan of the current iPhone app that's available for iPhone, so I'm hoping this one is a bit more stable and less prone to crashing, plus being able to RSVP and zoom into photos has been something I think should have been included in the first version...It seems that the next iteration of everyone's favourite social networking site... more

But I insist on only talking about the cool stuff. You know, like the features we'll actually care about. 40 of 'em, in fact! Plus push notification, and where you can find actual details about how it will make your life easier. Give 'er a read and let me know what your favorite new trick is. Or just tell me how much you hate the iPhone and how I should never talk about it again. Up to you.

The iPhone's long-awaited OS 3.0 upgrade that brings cut, copy & paste as well as regular picture messaging to the nifty-magic-Apple-box is expected to go live today between 5pm and 7pm BST.
Full features (from http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/):
- cut, copy & paste
- landscape keyboard for mail, Safari etc
- MMS (finally! it's only been on most phones since the 90s after all...)
- Spotlight search (search across your entire phone from one place)
- voice memos (basically pointless, right?)
- improved calendar
- internet tethering (use your iphone's internet connection to get your laptop online)
- some rubbish updates (who honestly cares about the stocks app being enhanced or new parental controls?)
The two best ones for me are blatantly copy & paste and MMS. What about you?The iPhone's long-awaited OS 3.0 upgrade that brings cut, copy & paste as... more

So, the much anticipated iPhone 3.0 OS is due to hit the iTunes store in the coming months, and still the rumour mill is churning out half truths and downright false predictions, but no one's sure how much truth there is the latest rumour ~ that the latest version of iPhone could feature voice control.
Apparently titled, Jibbler, the rumoured program appears to be "an enhancement to the iPhone SpringBoard application, the Finder-esque app that acts as a launcher and will support the newly announced 3.0 Spotlight search."
Obviously with this not being confirmed by Apple, things are still ropey as to whether it will be included in the iPhone, or if it even exists. But...If it is fo' realz, it could be controlled by an iPhone headset, using the integrated button to record short audio clips which Jibbler can then intepret. These audio clips could then be used to respond to the user,(not dissimilar from the latest iPod shuffle, which can "read" playlists and track names—the difference being that the iPhone hardware itself could handle real-time voice synthesis.
Now people will definitely know that people have an iPhone, not by the fact they're wearing flip flops in winter, or drinking a skinny wet mochafrappahalffatcino, but because they're now screaming into their phones even more than normal...So, the much anticipated iPhone 3.0 OS is due to hit the iTunes store in the coming... more
