7 July 2009: From the heavily guarded book store emerged Colonel Gaddafi, a book on Africa under his arm. From there, still surrounded by security, he took a stroll through piazzas and the back streets of Rome.
The question was, why was Gaddafi in Rome the same time the G8 was meeting? Conicidence? A bit of light shopping? Or was the war on terror ally there for another reason?

An early morning tipoff call led me to these scenes in Parliament Square. The Winston Churchill statue had been converted into a concentration camp - barbed wire, bloodied babies and bleeding injuries.

While I was out in Calais, France, covering the No Borders camp and protest, and the ever increasing refugee crisis, back in England several squatters took over the first home of Labour health minister Ann Keen, the latest head to publically roll in the MPs expenses scandal.

Monday 1 June 2009: As promised the Government of the Dead returned to parliament, this time with handcuffs to arrest the "criminals" involved in the neverending story of the UK MP's expenses claims.
Chris Knight read out a long fraud list, naming the claimants and the ridiculous expenses they expected the UK taxpayer to foot the bill, including "protecting shrubs from bunny rabbits", "moat cleaning" and a "rocking chair". The small group of protestors then made several attempts to arrest those MPs they considered "benefit fraudsters" but were halted, in true irony, by the police.Monday 1 June 2009: As promised the Government of the Dead returned to parliament,... more

Saturday 23 May 2009: The United Campaign Against Police Violence marched from Trafalgar Square to New Scotland Yard (NSY). The campaign, initiated after the scenes around London's financial district during the G20 protests and the death of newspaper seller Ian Tomlinson, who was struck down by a Met TSG riot officer.
The protest surrounded London's central police station, read out the names of those who died in police custody and released black balloons to comemorate the dead. The family of Sean Rigg attended and spoke at the rally outside NSY.Saturday 23 May 2009: The United Campaign Against Police Violence marched from... more

Monday 11 May 2009: Following the previous weekend of constant bombing by the Sri Lankan military of the Mullaivaikal "safe zone", the London Tamil protestors took to blocking the streets around Parlaiment for a fourth time, in a last attempt to highlight the plight of the Tamil people and be heard by the UK and world media.
But this time, at 2pm, TSG and City police massed on Westminster Bridge and the order was given to clear the road. What resulted, as this video shows, is a crushing panic that led to scores of arrests and injuries.
This film also documents some of the assaults and threats of arrest members of the press faced while trying to document the situation.

Monday 4 May 2009: A street party and protest was called in the seaside resort of Brighton by anti-militarist campaign group Smash EDO.
Brighton is home to the EDO/ITT factory that builds bomb release mechanisms for the US, UK and Israeli military. The campaign last year saw several large protests calling to shut the factory and end weapons manufacturing in the city.

More recently, in January this year several campaigners were arrested after breaking in and decommissioning the factory, causing £300,000 worth of damage to computers and machinery.
This year's protest, the largest demonstration yet, saw some 1,500 protestors take to the streets to target all businesses that profit, invest or assist in the weapons factory day-to-day running. But when a MacDonald's fast food outlet was targeted, the riot police moved in and the demonstration deteriorated into an afternoon of clashes with the authorities.
MacDonald's are listed as owning 61.500 shares in the ITT Corporation.

1 April 2009 - Financial Fools Day: As the 29 G20 leaders gathered in London, thousands came out on to the streets of the financial district to protest a wide range of issues from climate change to the failing capitalist system and tax payers bailout of the international banking system.
10,500 police were drafted in, at an estimated cost of £10 million, to police the protests and protect the banking institutions from what the police had deemd "the summer of rage". The end product was two policers suspended, scores injured and hospitalised and one man dead after being attacked by an unidentified member of the TSG (Territorial Support Group) riot squad.
Global Economic Meltdown follows on from last year's short film Global Economic Crisis, which documented the initial protests as the UK government bailed out the banks to a sum of £500 billion.
