My top five games are mostly tied to the memories as opposed to the quality of the game itself....which makes it kind of hard to write this list heh.
1. Rise of the Triad- growing up my parents wouldnt get my brother or I get a videogame system so we resorted to playing a shitton of PC games. I remember playing a lot of Doom, Warcraft, X-wing, and Rebbel Assault. But among all of those, Rise of the Triad was my favorite...probably because I had (and still do) all the cheat codes memorized and I would just run around like a maniac. Bonus points for Dog mode ;)
2. Game & Watch : Mario - The closest thing to a hand held video game system I had growing up was a Game & Watch: Mario. I played the shit out of that thing...especially on car trips (which we took a lot of). It sucked because there was no way to pause or save the game and if you died you really died. I remember getting so frustrated sometimes, but I always kept playing. I dont think I ever beat it but I got damn close a few times. I still have this game too!
3. Zelda: Ocarina of Time - This game will just always be on my top 5 even though I didnt play it until about 4 years ago. I still havent beaten it (I was over halfway done when I broke up with my ex....it was his N64) but I started playing again recently on Wii Virtual Console. I could go on for hours why this game is so amazing and in my opinion one of the most perfect games ever played....but that would take far too long ;)
4. Capcom vs Marvel - I love fighting games and although Soul Calibur is probably my favorite now, I played a ton of Capcom vs Marvel growing up. First at the arcades and then later in college when I lived in a house with 3 other boys and they liked to show me off because I could kick anyones ass in Capcom vs Marvel...they would make bets with our unsuspecting guests as to whether or not they could beat me, we made a lot of beer money that way.
5. Burnout - I would list a specific one but really I love them all. I totally suck at driving games but Burnout I rock at simply because I make the most epic crashes and still can drive away from them. My boyfriend says its the perfect game for me because I totally have gaming ADD and cant concentrate on one thing at a time...so Burnout is perfect for me because I just just drive around all crazy like doing whatever I want. I think hes right ;)
Honorable mentions- Pixel Junk Monsters, Tetris, Battlezone, Warcraft, Civilization and Math Blaster. My top five games are mostly tied to the memories as opposed to the quality of the... more

First of Mr. EPIC podcast host, I would like to say congrats on the job and from the looks of it so far so good! But on to the meat of this sandwich (the ONLY important part), I will have to show my hand early in the fact that I am not the most hardcore of gamers. To show my "green," I have only played ONE game out of your entire top five and that is MGS 2. So your choices could be fantastic? I have no idea at the moment, but what it does do is give me a good perspective of what I should play next (and since I just picked up The Orange Box, I think I can give Half Life 2 a try!!).
But on to my pics. These may sound absurd, but these are the games that I would consider the most noteworthy in my history as a gamer (and person). In no particular order...
- Super Return of the Jedi (SNES)
While i could say the original Super Mario Brothers was my first true love in terms of games, this wins out. I remember distinctly walking in on my uncle playing this game in first grade, not knowing what Star Wars even was. Later that year Santa gave me the same thing (go figure). I absolutely fell in love with the game, playing it for hours on end, which is when i a) became a gamer for life and b) became a star wars fan. and believe me... i am a HUGE star wars fan (funny side note.. finishing the game made me wanna start getting into Star Wars, so i went to rent a movie at Blockbuster... Return of the Jedi. I was so lost! I literally watched the original trilogy backwards, giving me an interesting perspective)
- Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)
I don't mean to steal. But I had Nintendo my whole life (NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, and multiple iterations of Game Boys), so when my sister showed interest in wanting a system I got excited. i remembered the articles from EGM I read about MGS2 and how awesome it looked, and the moment she bought the system I went to Gamestop (EB at the time) and bought the game. I played that sucker through and through, getting every dogtag for EVERY difficulty level (and now since I bought the Essential Collection, I can try out European Extreme. WOAH!)
- Resident Evil Remake (Gamecube)
Like I mentioned before, All I had was Nintendo growing up. Therefore no Resident Evil for me. And then in 8th grade a remake was in the works, sporting the best graphics I had seen at the time. For my birthday i preordered it, and had an overnighter with several guys to test it out. And i will say.. i jumped when the dogs jumped through the windows haha. I will have to say this is the one CONSOLE game i have spent the most time on perfecting. So much so, I successfully beat the game 100%, even beating it in under 3 hours to receive the rocket launcher. Still don't know how i Pulled that one off...
- Star Wars Rogue Squadron/Rogue Leader (N64/Gamecube)
Yes I know. Star Wars again. But it is what made my N64 a worthy purchase (had Shadows of the Empire months before i even had the system, and when i finally was able to play it i was disappointed), as well as what sold me on the Gamecube. Rogue Leader was one of the better launch games I have played, and I will still go back to it with my little cousin (this being the co-op version of it in Rebel Strike, the only positive part of that game).
- Halo
Haha this one cracks me up. I vividly remember in Junior high my Nintendo fanboy rage when kids were saying how good the Xbox was going to be. I thought they were insane! Bill Gates was trying to squeeze even MORE money from the worldwide economy (maybe that's where it all is now.. hmm). So i stuck to my gun, never showing any interest to the system. Then that epic EGM came out. The Halo 2 cover story issue, which was MASSIVE, had me sold on the cool factor of Halo. But i still was not convinced, even after my Gamecube well had run dry. But then E3 2006 showed a trailer with in-game graphics, of a barren wasteland narrated by some blue chick... and then Master Chief was shown. The 360 was bought shortly after:)First of Mr. EPIC podcast host, I would like to say congrats on the job and from the... more

I kinda apologize for my RPG-heavy Top 5 (all but #4!), but RPGs were the games that first made me a gamer. These days I'll pick up almost any game that shows even the slightest bit of creativity and fun, but back then, I lived off a smaller allowance and RPGs were value for money ($80 for a 60 hour, interactive story? Sign me up!). So here are my Top 5:
5. Final Fantasy VI: I had played previous Final Fantasy games before this, but this was the one that made me a fan of Squaresoft RPGs. I was fascinated by the characterization, the lore of the Espers, and the huge world to explore. I'll especially never forget my shock halfway through when I was convinced I was going to beat the game, only to (spoiler alert!) have my characters stand by helplessly as the world as they knew it got destroyed. Screw Sephiroth, cackling Kefka is easily one of the best villains in gaming.
4. Legend of the Mystical Ninja (Goemon): It was a massively flawed game, and left me biting my controller in frustration many times (yes, biting). And yet, the cheerful music and eccentric imagery kept me coming back for more. I never even owned the game; I simply rented it over and over again over a number of years. I don't even know why it's on this list; my brain knows it wasn't the best game ever, but my heart loves it so.
3. Chrono Trigger: This was an easy one. I don't even know how to sing its praises other than if you've never played Chrono Trigger, buy it for the DS and play it. Now. Go!
2. Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past: My Dad bought this for himself when purchasing the SNES for my Christmas present. He tried to explain the idea of an RPG to me, but my 8 year old self didn't understand the point of it. One day, he was at work and I was bored, so I gave it a try. And ever since that fateful day, I was an RPG addict.
1. Secret of Mana: Secret of Mana was my second-ever RPG. It was indeed flawed: crappy translation job, glitches, characters I didn't really care about (except for the Mana beast!), to name a few. The elements I liked about this game doesn't do justice to how much I genuinely care for it though. I guess it was the gameplay that sucked me in first, followed closely by the catchy music, the colorful world, and the chance to be OCD for a bit and level up all magic and weaponry to the highest levels. But best of all, years later, a shared love of this game is how I first met my soon-to-be husband.
(Awwwww :P )I kinda apologize for my RPG-heavy Top 5 (all but #4!), but RPGs were the games that... more
