Research in Motion (RIM) has confirmed that they are launching their tablet computer, the Blackberry PlayBook.
Weighing just over 0.4kg and measuring 0.4mm thick, the PlayBook is thiner and lighter than an iPad. Does have Wi-Fi, but doesn't have 3G yet (which they're bringing out in the future), but does have two cameras and (sorry Apple) it supports Flash. RIM says that the Playbook is designed for both business and personal users. The tablet is due out in 2011.

Research In Motion has just unveiled a new BlackBerry aimed at wooing consumers away from Apple’s iPhone and other rivals, but analysts said the handset won’t blow away the competition.
Even though the main features of the BlackBerry Torch, including a touchscreen and slideout keyboard, were well-known within the industry, investors registered their disappointment, driving RIM’s Toronto-listed shares down 4 percent.
The Torch will go on sale in the United States on August 12 for $199.99 with a two-year contract – about the same price as an Apple’s iPhone. The new BlackBerry uses a revamped operating system and has a faster and easier-to-use Web browser.
Underscoring RIM’s intention to compete head to head with the iPhone, the Waterloo, Ontario-based company will launch the phone in the United States with AT&T Inc, the same carrier that has exclusive U.S. rights to the iPhone.

Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry smartphone manufacturers are planning to go to market touch screen tablet and back to compete with Apple, in November. The item prepared is called ‘BlackPad’. Two sources who know the plan is confirmed the news about BlackPad on Bloomberg. Recently, RIM has already bought their own domain name BlackPad.com. According to these sources, as quoted from Apple Insider, August 2, 2010 is a 9.7 inch touch screen tablet, similar to the iPad. There is Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth in it. Users may also call the internet via their BlackBerry, unlike Apple iPad banning users accessing the 3G data service via iPhone. The source also said that RIM has no plans on overtaking Apple iPad from the price. They try to make profits from the products of the tablets. Artificial BlackPad RIM will add competition to the iPad which sold 3.27 million units in the first quarter after launch. Research In Motion CEO Jim Balsillie has tried like hell to purchase an NHL franchise and relocate it to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He had sights on the Nashville Predators, he had interest in teh Pittsburgh Penguins and most recently and publicly -- he had all intentions to purchase and relocate the Phoenix Coyotes from Glendale, Arizona to Hamilton.
Jim's made enemies along the way, though, with his hardline tactics. Those enemies include a majority of the owners in the NHL. Instead of willingly going through the process of becoming an owner -- Balsillie has repeatedly tried to force his way onto the scene.
That's what makes the comments from San Jose Shark's co-owner Kevin Compton so interesting.
"Jim loves hockey. Jim's got a lot of money. Jim's got a lot of passion." Compton said he was "100%" certain Balsillie will be an NHL owner in the future.
