1. Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain is a bad game and David Cage is a fruitbag. There, I said it. For all the praise that this clumsy, weird, incompetently plotted adventure game got in 2010, you'd think video games just got their Citizen Kane. Instead, we got an (admittedly well-designed) interface upgrade for quick time events (there they are again) grafted onto a story that would make CSI: Miami's showrunner blush. But the real problem with Heavy Rain is this: it's not a game. It's a bunch of cutscenes that you stumble through without any agency. Take the game's (rightly) mocked opening, where your son Jason gets hit by a car. What's the point of controlling Ethan in this scene? You can't stop the accident. Nothing you do has any effect on the rest of the game. It's bad design that fooled credulous jerks.
2. Sonic 4
Oh, man, Sonic The Hedgehog. Is there any franchise that has disappointed its fans with such regularity? Sega keeps putting its blue mascot through all sorts of wringers, from turning him into a werewolf to giving him a sword, and they all suck. What Sonic is is running fast. Sadly, even their attempt to get back to basics with the episodic downloadable title Sonic 4 is a failure. The problem with the game is all in the momentum - Sonic slows down when you let go of the controller in the air, making the whole game feel weird and wrong. Luckily, we got the surprisingly good Sonic Colors to make the year not a total failure.1. Heavy Rain

News has surfaced in the last month that video game titles Mass Effect and Heavy Rain will be heading to the big screen. Just the mere mention of video game live- action adaptations can send many fans on a rant and rightfully so, their track record has been full of flops and disappointments. While some adaptations like the Resident Evil series have found mainstream success to many fans, they are a spat in the face of the original game series. But where many adaptation in the past have been on video games that rely more on gameplay, Mass Effect and Heavy Rain are more renown for their story which may help in the translation to film. Hell, Heavy Rain is an interactive movie.

Brittany "Molotov Cupcake" Vincent writes, "A simple choice can change your life forever. For instance, you may selfishly choose to drive drunk and end someone's life, or yours. You could easily choose to get a ride home and not risk wrecking or endangering someone's health. Of course, those are choices that can be made with dire outcomes. Gaming is slowly but surely introducing the same kinds of decisions. But are we ready? Are they being implemented correctly? And how do we feel about choosing 'right' versus 'wrong?'"
Spawn Kill's weekly discussion starter is back, and this week's topic is Morality and Choice in video games. This phenomenon is appearing in more and more games, but is this necessarily a good thing? Check it out and weigh in on how you feel about this issue!Brittany "Molotov Cupcake" Vincent writes, "A simple choice can change... more

When Heavy Rain released a couple months back, it was mostly treated to general praise from critics and gamers alike. The visuals border on Hollywood-level realism, the writing can be measured up against any cable crime drama, and the characters are memorable and involving. So it can be natural, then, that an episodic Heavy Rain "series" be released to PSN.When Heavy Rain released a couple months back, it was mostly treated to general praise... more

Is Heavy Rain a video game? Is it interactive drama? Is it both? Maybe a better question to all three questions is: is it good? Tigresa (Stephanie) and Snarkasaur (Dave) aim to find out with a little deliberation. We may disagree about nudity a bit, but I think we come to a common consensus on Heavy Rain as a whole in the end. Heavy Rain is a difficult game to both review or discuss without getting knee-deep in spoiler territory, but we have taken on that very challenge for you. 100% spoiler-free.

With the release of Heavy Rain the line between movies and videogames have almost blended. Up until now most games which feature an excellent story have merely been excellent “for a game”, if that same story was delivered to us in the form of a movie we’d probably realize just how big and dumb it actually is. Quantic Dream tried to blend...

CFD!'s Sage Knox gives his impressions of the Heavy Rain demo:
"Have you ever wished for a game that required very little player input, packed a heavy narrative, and was more of a CG movie than a video game? You’re in luck! Metal Gear Solid 4 is available now!
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
This year, another PS3-exclusive game is following in those similar footsteps. I recently got the chance to try out the early demo of Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain. The spiritual successor to Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain is promised to be a narrative-driven interactive experience that tugs at your heartstrings and coaxes an emotional response unlike any you’ve ever had while playing a video game."
