In a new interview with the Stig (Ben Collins) accused BBC worldwide of revealing his identity first by listing potential names in a Radio Times article two years ago. "but he said the Radio Times unmasking was a turning point: "It caused a huge question over whether I was viable any more." -Independent
In reply to the interview, a BBC spokesperson stated the interview with the accusations were published in a newspaper owned by the same company that owns the books publishers (News Corp). "It seems to have been designed simply to attempt to generate further sales."-Independent
So was this story ever about the Stig? or a brewing conflict between the two groups, which has been fuelled by two Edinburgh speeches.
""Funded by a hypothecated tax, the BBC feels empowered to offer something for everyone, even in areas well served by the market. The scope of its activities and ambitions is chilling."-Guardian
"Thompson also poured scorn on James Murdoch, who used last year's MacTaggart lecture to call the BBC "chilling" in its impact on the commercial sector. One of the biggest laughs of the night came when Thompson mocked the head of News Corp's European operations for attacking the British Library's plan to digitise its newspaper archive."-GuardianIn a new interview with the Stig (Ben Collins) accused BBC worldwide of revealing his... more

F3 racing driver Ben Collins is the latest driver the papers are outing as Top Gear's mysterious Stig. In January 2009, Collins was rumoured to be the man behind the white helmet in this Current.com article and new evidence seems to add weight to the claims.
Paperwork from Collins' company Collins Autosport show he signed up with Top Gear in 2003, around the same time the world-famous 'white Stig' first appeared in screen.
Accounts filed that December reveal the firm had achieved a "cornerstone year".
They add that it was partly because of on-track success and say: "In addition, driving services were also provided for the BBC, mainly in the Top Gear Programme."
The BBC is staying quiet on the matter and Collins refused to elaborate, telling journalists who rang him: "I can't speak, I'm going into a tunnel."Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/3106717/F3-driver-Ben-Collins-company-links-him-to-Top-Gears-The-Stig.html#ixzz0xQ7yU9y3

Raw and real, ‘Faster & Faster’, is so infectiously whirlwind that this video needed the BBC’s Top Gear team to capture the action: director, cameramen, stunt drivers and all. This track is the antidote for anyone left numb by the sequential sterility spoon-fed by today’s homogenized music industry, a pure adrenaline anthem for the lads and lasses that inevitably leaves you wanting more and more. The song sees three no-hopers - a pole-dancer, a junkie and a jailbird - turn their lives around, making Faster & Faster an upbeat rollercoaster you just want to ride again and again.Raw and real, ‘Faster & Faster’, is so infectiously whirlwind that... more

The former Formula One driver took off the Stig's famous white helmet during an interview with presenter Jeremy Clarkson after the studio audience urged him to reveal his true identity.
Clarkson jokingly pretended not to recognise Schumacher and asked him what his name was before he became famous as the Stig, before excitedly shouting to the audience: "It's Michael Schumacher!"
The Stig test drives cars around the Top Gear track in Dunsfold Park, Surrey, and trains each week's guest for their lap for the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car feature.
His identity has a closely guarded secret although many people have speculated that the famous white overalls and helmet are shared by several drivers.
Silly rumours about the Stig have been used to add to the mystery surrounding the character who never speaks to camera.
In Sunday's show, Clarkson quizzed Schumacher about some of the rumours, asking: "Are you illegal in 17 US states?"
Schumacher, who was Formula One world drivers' champion seven times, replied: "No, it's much exaggerated. It's only nine."
Clarkson then asked about another rumour: "Some people have told us you only know two facts about ducks and both of them are wrong. Is that true?" Schumacher replied "Well obviously they won't fly" and was quickly interrupted by Clarkson who said: "No, they were right, you don't know anything about ducks."
