WASHINGTON — Justice Sonia Sotomayor took the judicial oath on Saturday, becoming the first Hispanic and third woman to serve on the Supreme Court in United States history.
At just past 11 a.m., Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. administered a pair of oaths to her in two private ceremonies at the Supreme Court building, completing her ascent to a life-tenured position as the nation's 111th justice, and the first to be nominated by a Democratic president since 1994.
In the first ceremony, which took place in the justice’s conference room and was attended only by her relatives and a court photographer, she took the standard oath affirmed by all federal employees, swearing to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

For reasons largely unspoken, gay people have been made the scapegoat for the drop in marriage rates. The culprits aggressively put forth any notion that hides the real reasons for fighting consensual monogamous LGBT relationships: bigotry, fear and ignorance.
If any person is against gay marriage, he or she should not be forced to marry a gay person. But if someone is gay and he or she would like to marry another adult so inclined, the constitution does not prohibit gay marriage, and there is no legal prohibition against living as a gay person. It seems a matter of time until we recognize religious freedom and let religions decide their own religious ceremonies, rather than putting religious sacraments and civil rights up for popular vote.
Loving couples committed to monogamous, consensual relationships until the end of time are a powerful stabilizing force in society. In time, truth and fairness will rise above propaganda and bigotry. In time, people will realize supporting marriage means living the vows that are spoken freely on the day of marriage.

Amy Winehouse was just divorced from her husband Blake Fielder-Civil after spending only 6 months of marriage out of prison. He was asking for £6 million for time served as Amy's husband. All in all, not a situation that firmly anchors the sanctity of marriage.
In America, we need a Wise Latina to see through the thinly veiled arguments that advance a rationale for ignoring Equal Protection under the law. Actually, we need wise people of all stripes to strengthen society by supporting committed, consensual relationships. Protecting the equal rights of minorities in society ultimately strengthen the rights of all people.
