In a straight-to-DVD movie that will premiere tomorrow night in D.C., Newt Gingrich and Citizens United warn Americans of the impending threat of radical Islam. As one of their talking heads says in the trailer, "This is the end of times. This is the final struggle."
The movie, called "America At Risk," paints the world as a dangerous place filled with radicalized Muslims who want to -- and, importantly, can -- destroy America.
"The war on terror, and the ideology behind it, have only just begun," Gingrich's wife, Callista Gingrich, intones while she and Gingrich stand in front of a green-screened New York skyline.
Here's the trailer:
If it looks familiar, that's because it's extremely similar to movies by the Clarion Fund, the nonprofit which produced "The Third Jihad" and "Obsession." The latter, sent to 30 million homes during the 2008 election(http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/08/_obsession_and_the_cordoba_house.php), helped plant the seeds of the current spate of anti-mosque protests and anti-Muslim rhetoric.
It has the same themes (immediate threat of death by Islam), the same shots of terrorist attacks and scary "death to America" rallies, and many of the same people, like M. Zuhdi Jasser, a Muslim doctor from Arizona, and Bernard Lewis, a Princeton professor and sounce of the aforementioned "final struggle" line.
"America At Risk" goes on the attack against the Obama administration much more than the Clarion movies, however, calling it "crazy" that the administration doesn't say "Islam" enough when discussing the war on terror. Former White House Chief of Staff and current presidential candidacy hinter-at John Bolton, notably, appears.
"Washington refuses to tell the truth about the war we are fighting," reads one press release.
In the lead-up to his movie's release (now available for $19.95 on pre-order), Gingrich has been one of the most outspoken opponents of the Park51 Islamic center in downtown Manhattan. He has demanded the government step in and stop the "mosque" from being built. He has called its backers "radical Islamists" and likened them to Nazis. He suggested America be more like Saudi Arabia(http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/gingrich_on_ground_zero_mosque_we_should_be_more_l.php), which doesn't allow Christian churches.
And so forth.

Hedy Epstein, recalls the social climate of pre-WWII Germany, the fate of her family, the formation of Israel, and the journey of empathy that brought her into the Free Gaza movement. The message of "us together" rather than "us and them" couldn't be delivered by a more qualified and articulate person.
Produced by the Exploring Documentary major of Missouri Scholars Academy 2010.

Evangelicals have established schools, radio stations and churches in northern Iraq -- all with the blessings of the Kurdistan government and assistance from U.S. taxpayers.
July 12, 2010
On a barren hillside outside Sulaymaniyah in southeast Iraqi Kurdistan sits a small compound of buildings clustered behind battered gray and ochre walls. Atop one wall is a large white sign glittering with gold and azure lettering that reads in English and Arabic: Classical School of the Medes. It is one of three new private schools in the region that teach a "Christian worldview," the handiwork of American evangelicals from Tennessee.
Since the US occupation took hold, American evangelicals have established not only schools, but printing presses, radio stations, women's centers, bookstores, medical and dental clinics, and churches in northern Iraq, all with the blessings and assistance of the Kurdistan government. Many of these efforts were funded in part by US taxpayer dollars, channeled through Department of Defense construction contracts and State Department grants.
In September 2003, just four months after US forces took down Saddam Hussein's regime, 350 evangelical pastors and church leaders assembled in Kirkuk, where they were warmly welcomed by Massoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government. At that gathering, George Grant, a leader of Servant Group International, the evangelical organization in Nashville that set up the chain of Christian schools, declared that "Jesus Christ is Lord over all things; He is Lord over every Mullah, every Ayatollah, every Imam, and every Mahdi pretender; He is Lord over the whole of the earth, even Iraq!"'spiritual_warfare'_in_northern_iraq?page=entire

The United States Senate will start a historic debate on Health Care Reform November 20th, this Monday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) must fight an uphill battle. He has the votes to pass the bill but not to invoke a procederal motion known as cloture. Currently there are three Democratic holdouts and one Independent who are threatening to filibuster if a public option is included in the final bill. Reid needs all four of those votes.
It is likely that the bill will be amended on issues such as malpractice lawsuits, consumer choice, cost curving and drug prices.
Reid hopes that the Senate will pass a bill by the end of December. If not, there will be a very short Christmas break. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois), the Majority Whip, said it would be a lunch break and that the Senate "has no choice" but to finish the matter before the President's State of the Union address in January.
Despite these challenges Reid is developing another public option, one that could get Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) on board. The plan would be a combination of her "trigger" option and an opt-in or opt-out government run health insurance option.
