Hello Mayor Newsom,
Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed budget would close over 200 of California's beautiful and historic state parks. These parks are enjoyed by 80 million visitors each year.
What is your take on this? Also, do you have a plan for restructuring the system in a way that will make it possible to keep all of California's incredible state parks open?Hello Mayor Newsom,
Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.... more

Pollution is essentially poisoning people. Knowingly putting poison in a person's glass of water is attempted murder, but knowingly putting poison in the drinking water supply on is simply a violation of permit punishable by a fine of a nominal fee.
Since the federal government, states, and municipalities under budget constraints often end up severely underfunding and crippling enforcement branches of State EPAs, and since violations of environmental law are often not taken as seriously as other crimes such as arson, theft, etc, do you plan on making environmental law violations part of the beat of Police Officers?Pollution is essentially poisoning people. Knowingly putting poison in a... more

Hi Mr. Newson; I do health and environmental journalism here at Current geared towards improve the quality of life of all Americans. I am a long time resident of San Francisco and here at Current, I go by the screen name of "stopnoise;" Mr. Newsom; It has been eight; (8) Years that our Public Transportation uses street invasive noise that trespasses property lines and harass inhabitants in the City of San Francisco. This is a health environmental issue and a human rights violation that negative affects the quality of life of their citizens.
So here is my question; - Could you care to explain why your Administration allowed this to continue unabated for all these Years without making any effort or attempts to stop it, even when advised by many Citizens not to do so?Hi Mr. Newson; I do health and environmental journalism here at Current geared towards... more

Mr. Newsom;
As water levels in Lake Mead, Lake Powell, and the Colorado River continue to fall due to a combination of waste, population increases, and climate change which is affecting snowpack, what plans would you have as governor to meet the urgent water crisis in the state of California as it is also affecting farmers, agriculture, and the economy? Also, do you see desalination as a viable option even considering the many cons regarding it in respect to its carbon footprint, price, and harm to marine ecosystems?
Thanks for your response;

Having lived in SF I would have to say it is one of the most environmentally aware cities in the world. That is not to say there is not room for improvement. When you look back at your time as Mayor I am curious what you consider to be some of the most impactful changes made by the City to benefit the environment. How can the state of CA learn from the successful environmental programs implemented by the city of SF? Can you point to specific environmental policies and practices in SF that could be emulated by the state of CA?Having lived in SF I would have to say it is one of the most environmentally aware... more
