“This Way Up” was a 2009 Academy-Award Nominee for Best Animated Short and has received awards at film festivals throughout the world. The film is a macabre, comical tale about two very strange, top-hatted undertakers who suffered a terrible catastrophe when a huge falling boulder flattened their hearse.
The odd-couple is compelled to get the coffin, and its dearly departed contents, into its hallowed burial ground even if it means combating a lethal chain reaction of dangers during their epic voyage to the gates of hell and back again. “This Way Up” reveals more of both the wonder and the pointlessness of human life than most full-length feature films.
