So many news stories in the last few hours it's a bit overwhelming, even here at Current Music HQ. And there have been a lot of pretty nasty comments -- some of which come from a very sincere and frustrated place with the man he seemed to have become, and some of which just seem short-sighted and cruel.
I'm thinking about this quote from Ann Powers in the LA Times (http://bit.ly/EM2Ob): "Baby boomers have "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Pet Sounds," but for subsequent generations "Thriller" remains pop's ultimate artistic endeavor."
We'd love to hear directly from you, our community at Current.com, what your Michael Jackson moment to remember is -- the first of his songs you heard, a cover performance you saw, a video that made you want to pick up a camera and create your own movies.
You can twitter us at @current_music, leave a comment here or record a webcam. (Other folks at Current TV are working on some pieces for tonight's news and for tomorrow, too.)

LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Reuters) - In death, Michael Jackson is enjoying a commercial renaissance that had eluded him for years.
The self-proclaimed "king of pop" who died suddenly on Thursday occupied the top 15 slots on online retailer Amazon.com Inc's (AMZN.O) best-selling albums within hours.
The No. 1 disc, not surprisingly, was the 25th anniversary reissue of his 1982 blockbuster "Thriller," the biggest selling album in history with estimated worldwide sales of almost 50 million copies. Three different configurations of "Thriller" came in at number 12, 13, and 14.LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Reuters) - In death, Michael Jackson is enjoying a commercial... more

After tense family negotiations, it has been decided Michael Jackson's memorial service will be nondenominational. The tense negotiations among the Jacksons over which religion should prevail at Tuesday's massive memorial ended in a stalemate, sources told the Daily News. Therefore the family has chosen to proceed with a nondenominational event.
The Jacksons were raised as Jehovah's Witnesses by their mother, Katherine. Since childhood many have strayed from the faith of their mother, dabbling in Christianity, Islam and even kabbalah, a mystical Jewish sect.
Jermaine Jackson became Muslim in 1989 after a trip to Bahrain, and it is rumored Michael took an interest in Islam in recent years, perhaps even going so far as to convert to the Muslim faith. Yet Michael was also known to wear a red string on his left wrist, a symbol of kabbalah -the red string fueling rumors that he had embraced the mystical Jewish sect.

Pop legend Michael Jackson may be dead (although not yet buried) however his name lives on, on the moon!
A crater on the moon (the Earth's moon, to be precise) is to have its name changed from Posidonius J to Michael Joseph Jackson. I bet 'Pos J', the slain rapper it used to be named after, is rolling in his grave...
MJ actually owned a huge part of the moon adjacent to this crator, a place know as the Lake of Dreams. Who inherits that, and what they'll do with it is anyone's guess.Pop legend Michael Jackson may be dead (although not yet buried) however his name... more

Michael Jackson's memorial service will take place Tuesday in the Staples Center, the 20,000-seat Los Angeles coliseum where the singer rehearsed the night before he died, according to a person briefed by a family representative.
No other details have been revealed about the service, set to begin at 10 a.m. PT Tuesday.
Jackson did not specify where he wished to be buried in a 2002 will, which was filed in court Wednesday.
More information emerged Thursday about how Jackson's estate will be shared, which his will estimated in 2002 as being worth $500 million.
The family trust created by Jackson to receive all of his assets includes his mother, his children and a list of charities, according to a person with direct knowledge of the contents of the trust.
Mother Katherine Jackson's 40 percent share would go to Michael Jackson's three children after her death, the source said.
The children -- ages 7, 11 and 12 -- also will share 40 percent of the estate's assets, and the remaining 20 percent will benefit charities designated by the executors of the will, the source said.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge will consider who will control the estate and who has guardianship of the children at a hearing Monday
The Drug Enforcement Administration has joined the investigation into Jackson's death, a federal law enforcement official said Wednesday night.
Two law enforcement officials separately confirmed the DEA probe, saying agents would look at doctors involved with Jackson, their practices and their possible sources of medicine supply.
Neither official wanted to be identified because they could not comment publicly on the matter.Michael Jackson's memorial service will take place Tuesday in the Staples Center,... more

This is a crazy story, the myspace part anyway.
The daughter of the late Elvis Presley says her former husband said he was afraid he was going to end up like her father.
If you believe Lisa Marie Presley, Michael Jackson foresaw his own demise years ago.
"He knew," wrote Presley, Jackson's wife from 1994 to 1996, in a revealing post on her MySpace blog Friday morning.
The daughter of the late Elvis Presley, she has become a tragic link between two great music legends, whose untimely deaths shocked the world as much as their lives had captivated it.
Jackson saw the parallel, Presley wrote, and spoke about it during a conversation the two once had about her father.
"At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, 'I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did,' " Presley, 41, recalled in her MySpace post.
When she tried to dissuade Jackson from his grim prediction, she wrote, he just shrugged. "He knew what he knew and that was kind of that."
Presley wrote fondly of Jackson, saying their marriage was not a "sham," as the media had labeled it, but rather "an unusual relationship . . . where two unusual people who did not live or know a 'normal life' found a connection."
Presley could not be reached, but her publicist, Cindy Guagenti, said Presley had done all her blogging on her MySpace page and that "we have had very positive reaction to the blog."
Guagenti said she did not know if Presley's post had attracted any reaction from Jackson's family.
But the reaction from fans was clear: By the end of the day, the post had generated nearly 1,000 comments, many of them sympathetic.
Activity on Jackson's MySpace page, now a kind of musical memorial, was even more intense. The singer's friend count was increasing by nearly 100 every minute and was on track to be the largest one-day increase in site history, according to the company.
With a huge number of Jackson songs available through the page, MySpace said nearly 100,000 songs were being played every 10 minutes. This is a crazy story, the myspace part anyway.
