Like a lot of people, I was caught off guard by the first Dead Island promo trailer earlier this year. It was sad, unconventional, and it really made me excited for the game.
Then, like a lot of other people that loved the trailer, I began to find out what the game was actually about and became significantly less enthusiastic.
It appeared to be a combination of the first person, four-player antics of the Left 4 Dead series with the insane weaponry and customization of Dead Rising tied together by the class-based skill trees of Borderland. Now, I’m a big fan of all of those games but it wasn’t what that trailer had groomed me to expect.
Regardless, when I got my code for Dead Island I dived right in to see what all this hullabaloo was about. Just as I feared, the game was absolutely nothing like what I had hoped for. In actuality, it was much, much better.

Remember the ‘Hot Coffee’ incident in GTA: San Andreas? You know, the one with all the sex, and the outcry, and the mothers smothering their children as if the end of the world was nigh? Well, it’s happened again, just on a slightly smaller scale, within Techland’s recent release, Dead Island.
Purna, one of the game’s protagonists, has a skill which can be unlocked that is titled ‘Gender Wars’. No harm there, right? Unfortunately though, someone digging around in the PC version of the game’s code has discovered the original title for the skill, and that’s where the fun begins. Entitled ‘Feminist Whore’, the skill offers Purna a 15% attack bonus against male enemies.
The outcome of this discovery is an apology from Techland, promises of an investigation into the matter, and basically, a whole load of free marketing for Dead Island, over what, at the end of the day, isn’t really a huge deal. I’m sure I’ve heard worse in games before, and I know I definitely have in both books and movies.Remember the ‘Hot Coffee’ incident in GTA: San Andreas? You know, the one... more

Remember the shit-wrecking masterpiece that was the trailer for the Dead Island zombie game? Well, someone applied the same film-in-reverse technique and haunting song to some of Shaun of the Dead's more emotional moments and... well, damn. It probably won't wreck your shit as thoroughly as the Dead Island trailer, but it'll definitely rough your shit up. There'll be some structural damage in your shit at the very least. Thanks to Scooter Atreides for the tip.
