Christoph Waltz makes a charming villain -- his Oscar-winning Colonel Hans Landa of the SS in "Inglorious Basterds," his Russian mobster Bloodnofsky in "The Green Hornet," his upcoming Cardinal Richelieu in "The Three Musketeers," and his latest, circus owner August Rosenbluth in "Water for Elephants". You wouldn't expect an actor like him to be willingly typecast himself, so what's the method behind his madness? Waltz gives some insight on the steps he takes.

Though it’s billed as a comedic take on the sometimes excessively serious superhero genre, Michel Gondry’s Green Hornet isn’t successful as a comedy or a superhero epic. While it’s funny and features a few imaginative sequences, Hornet never manages to commit to either genre consistently. It’s like every Michel Gondry film not written by Charlie Kaufman; an entertaining but woozy mixture of dazzling visuals and sharp tonal inconsistency.Though it’s billed as a comedic take on the sometimes excessively serious... more

In the upcoming movie adaptation of the beloved comic, The Green Hornet (and it’s in 3D!) Taiwanese sensation Jay Chou steps into the role of Kato and Seth Rogen plays the title character. But let’s face it — let’s face it — Kato is the true hero. Without him, Britt Reid would be nothing. He’d just be a douche wearing a mask — but that’s beside the point.

Comic lovers, gamers and action fans won't want to miss a special livestream with the cast of The Green Hornet, going down Monday, January 10 at 9:30pm ET / 6:30pm PT.
Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and other celebrity guests will strut their stuff at the world premiere. You can follow the red carp action by visiting this link tonight:http://www.nowlive.com/GreenHornetMovieWriter/Executive Producer Seth Rogen (who also plays Britt Reid), is committed to showing people something they've never seen before. He thinks his character will bring a unique twist to the "hero" archetype: "Our world has been flooded by these rich people who are just famous for being the son of someone who did something great once, and that's kind of who I play. Britt Reid is the dude that parties a lot and his father was once a great journalist. We always wanted to write a hero sidekick movie, and me and [Writer/Executive Producer] Evan [Goldberg] are lifelong comic book fans, and what attracts us are relationships, usually between two dudes, as lame as that sounds."Cameron Diaz, who plays Lenore Case, couldn't resist working with Rogen and director Michel Gondry: "I got a phone call that Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry were doing The Green Hornet. Those two names separately are incredibly interesting to me, but together, 'What are you talking about?' Those two minds, I didn't care what it was, it was something that perked up my ears."Comic lovers, gamers and action fans won't want to miss a special livestream with... more

It's Sunday. The funny thing is, on Sunday, there is technically no "important news." That's for Monday. Sunday's just like, being light and fluffy.

-OLD MAN SHAKES OLD MAN STICK AT ASHTON KUTCHER FOR BEING YOUNG AN' TWEETERING. [Variety, also]
-Paranormal Activity made $2.5 million on Friday. It is #5. Couples Retreat made $12.3 million. It is #1. Go wild. [BOM]
-After recent screenings in New York, the Yes Men have gone wild with their audiences. Awesome. [Gothamist]
-Why did I miss that Anvil will be in The Green Hornet? [SHH!]
-Yeah, so that whole "one million clicks" for Paranormal Activity may have been bullshit. But hey, great marketing there. [The Playlist]
-That new Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans trailer really doesn't explain what you're going to see. That isn't good, either. [Y!]

It's the middle of the week and we want to know why you haven't watched Stingray Sam yet? Is it because he's not a hero? Man, c'mon. But let's hit the news:
-indieWIRE's informal grading of 34 films from Toronto this year. Consensus? Creation is meh. [iW, h/t: auteur's]
-The Weinstein Company has shelled out $2.5 million for Tom Ford's A Serious Man, which became Toronto's hot property seemingly overnight. [Current]
-Universal Studios will add a Harry Potter "Forbidden Journey" to their Islands of Adventure. Mmm. [Current]
-Blockbuster will close 960 stores. Which makes me yearn for West Coast Video. [CNET]
