Paul Greengrass is in talks to helm the project. Greengrass is best known to audiences as the director of the latter two Bourne films: The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. But film geeks might know him better as the director behind Bloody Sunday, Green Zone and the underrated and Oscar-nominated United 93.
Variety reports that the film will be “shot in 3D, using the same technologies Cameron and Jon Landau’s Lightstorm developed for Avatar.” I assume this means performance capture in addition to live-action. Here is the plot description for the original film from Russ’s previous post:
The original film was released in 1966 and featured a Soviet scientist who discovers the key to miniaturizing things without danger of them reverting to their original size after a period of time. But an assassination attempt leaves him in a coma with a blood clot endangering his brain. A US team is miniaturized and sent into his bloodstream to destroy the clot and save his life. But they’re relying upon outmoded technology, and only have an hour to work before they begin to revert to original size, and are targeted by his immune system.

The latest from Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon is sure to evoke a knee-jerk Bourne vibe. Especially with the implied Matt Damon vs. entire room of armed soldiers segment.
It even has Greg Kinnear reprising a "shady Government official" while Damon's "loyal" soldier struggles to find out who the mysterious source is. Source for what? Check out the trailer.

At its simplest, “Green Zone” is a Bourne movie set in Iraq.
It stars Matt Damon. It’s directed by Paul Greengrass, who helmed the last two Bourne films. And it features lengthy examples of Greengrass’ favorite herky-jerky camera techniques (almost to the point of sea sickness) to indicate action.
But this isn’t just about another Robert Ludlum superhero. While it is fiction, it was inspired by Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s best selling non-fiction book, Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone, and tackles a number of serious issues.
What makes the film especially satisfying is that it doesn’t sacrifice the pulse-pounding excitement and entertainment value to make its points. The end product is something that will be enjoyed in states of every hue.
Matt Damon has taken on the mantle of the industry’s rugged action hero -- and whether he’s playing a super spy with amnesia, a rugged rugby player or a CWO, he wears it well. He is the man all of us wanted to be before reality set in.At its simplest, “Green Zone” is a Bourne movie set in Iraq.

The director of two films in the epic Bourne series, Paul Greengrass, has walked away from directing the fourth installment in the franchise and it's reported that it's due to his disatisfaction with another writer being brought in to "rewrite the original script".
Greengrass has issued a statement and it doesn't really give much away, other than things are apparently friendly with him and Universal Pictures still.
“You won’t find a more devoted supporter of the Bourne franchise than me. I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I’m very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There’s been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive. I’ve been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and our relationship continues. Jason Bourne existed before me and will continue, and I hope to remain involved in some capacity as the series moves on.”

We honestly figured someone like Nikki Finke would be breaking this before us (and our source was a little surprised as well), but she's been a little AWOL of late which leaves the door open.
Sources and friends close to the project tells us that Paul Greengrass has quit "Bourne 4" and walked away from the project. This actually happened more than a week ago, and we've been getting our ducks in a row before publishing this report (and again, we're shocked Finke or the Wrap didn't get wind of this yet and way before us).
