Today on Current Music:
+ Dead Man's Bones—aka Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields—announced their upcoming tour dates with a suitably creepy ad. The album was recorded with the help of a children's choir, and on tour there will be local groups adding the choral parts into the stage show. There's also going to be a talent show instead of opening bands. Why would I make something like this up?
+ The Dead Weather—aka Jack White's latest project—will play a free gig on Wednesday at an LA record store owned by White.
+ Dead by Sunrise—aka Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and friends—offer a peek behind the scenes of their album, out October 13.
+ Song I am most looking forward to on Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3: "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)." The album also features collaborations with Rihanna, Kanye West, Timbaland, Drake and more. Can we get a sticker like the kind they put on organic fruit for organic sounds? FRESH! No Auto-Tune was harmed in the making of this record!

“Dead Hearts” is a mesmerizing seven-minute short film that was created for the debut album by Dead Man’s Bones, the musical project of actors Ryan Gosling (Lars and the Real Girl) and Zach Shields. The staggering short film stars “Machine With Wishbone,” a moving sculpture created by artist Arthur Ganson and follows the Wishbone’s Sisyphean journey as it wanders past burning barns and eerie graveyards. This ghoulish film is deeply somber and brooding, and the seven minutes are a true masterpiece.
This piece presents a number of eerily sinister color photographs, as well as the outstanding short film, “Dead Hearts.”
Please visit my website to view the photographs, and to watch this deeply absorbing short film:

Thanks to a mutual affinity for ghosts, zombies, and gothic imagery, actor Ryan Gosling and friends Zach Shields set out to create a haunting music theater production. Eventually, that idea fell by the wayside, and the two simply formed a band, known as Dead Man's Bones. Only two of their songs have been released to the internet thus far, but interested music fans can anticipate much more, as Dead man's Bones has been signed to Anti- Records are now scheduled to drop their self-titled debut on October 6th of this year.
In an interview with Pitchfork earlier this year, Gosling also talked about the reason for recording with a children's choir: "You know when you're a kid and you get crayons and papers and just draw whatever you want and it's just a bunch of messy lines, but to you it makes sense, and then they put it on the fridge? From that point on, you're always trying to get back on the fridge, you start drawing things that look like something, like, the more it looks like a horse, the more chance you have of getting it on the fridge. We wanted to get back to that place before we were trying to make the fridge. We wanted to work with people who hadn't been affected in that way yet."Thanks to a mutual affinity for ghosts, zombies, and gothic imagery, actor Ryan... more
