Steve Jobs Narrates Never-Aired “Here's To The Crazy Ones” Commercial
This needs to be aired. Today.
“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” When originally released in 1997, Richard Dreyfuss provided the narration for this famous ad campaign, but originally Jobs himself did it. Its message is moving already, and to hear Jobs say it makes it even more so.

Many years back while I was a fine arts student at the University of Houston, I had been considering God’s love for the Jewish nation, especially the passage in Romans 10:19 where Paul is teaching about God’s everlasting love for the Jews. In this context Paul quotes Moses, “I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.”
A “poster” style concept formed in my heart and mind that I felt might strike the Romans 10:19 chord with the Jewish students on campus. The intent of the poster was specifically designed to “provoke” Jews to the type of jealously Moses saw and Paul articulates. As a believer and a creative person, one has to be very careful about saying, “God told me to do this or that,” when sometimes it may be only our own creative ideas. One could place that in the category of “self works”. However, for me a worse pitfall is to disobey when you really believe He is directing.
I felt as if this was to be posted on campus during the Jewish Passover season. The poster was printed on a stark white paper. On it I designed a huge, red, bloodstain that was vivid, bold and clearly visible from a great distance. The red stain was placed over the top of a graphical lamb I drew. But the lamb was printed without ink. It was created in a technique known as “blind embossing”. From a distance the lamb could not be seen. As one drew near the bloodstain, the white lamb became clearly visible behind it.
There was a brief paragraph of copy about Christ being the Passover lamb under the art. This is because two verses before the Romans 10:19 passage Paul says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. “ (Rom. 10:17). The Word had to be on the poster to provide a resting place for their faith.
This poster design was used for various street evangelism events in later years. But for me, the first use was why I spent so much time creating it. One day I expect to hear who it was God was after during that Passover season.
May God bless you and the work He designed you for.

“Melvin the Magical Mixed Media Machine” (or just Melvin the Machine) is a wild four-minute short film created by members of the design studio HEYHEYHEY. Art space MU asked HEYHEYHEY to design their show for the Dutch Design Week, Holland’s major design event. Mu gave them complete freedom on one condition: the show wasn’t to be a show of new products, but it should rather be a moment. Since they like a challenge, they decided to build a massive chain reaction with an identity.
Melvin is best described as a Rube Goldberg machine with a twist. Besides doing what Rube Goldbergs do best, performing a simple task as inefficiently as possible, often in the form of a chain reaction, Melvin has an identity. Actually, the only purpose of this machine is to promote its own identity. Melvin takes pictures and makes videos of his audience, which he instantly uploads to his blog, Facebook and Twitter account. Besides that he makes his own merchandise. All of this within 4-minutes of craziness, which you just have to witness yourself.
This piece includes a number of colorful photographs, as well as the crazy short film.
