Eeyore's favorite hood,..........heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers AUSTIN !
( wherever it is ) in the HEART O' TEXAS .

your basic Wikipedia primer . . . ( excerpts )
The "Keep Austin Weird" slogan
reaches far beyond a marketing campaign.[citation needed] Austin is the self-proclaimed "live music capital of the world" and the people of Austin reflect a friendly, accepting culture of artistic and individual expression that maintains the city as a vibrant and eclectic creative center and haven for an LGBT community, intellectual community, community of naturalists and environmentalists, and for subcultures and people(s) who are not mainstream. In a mostly conservative Texas, Austin is "Weird" because of that and because it continues to be liberal and progressive politically, socially, in culture, in the arts and in music, among other things. "Keep Austin Weird" moves beyond a mere slogan, to reflect the dynamics that encompass Austin.
In January 2009 alone, over 1700 live music venues were supported.[9] In addition, multiple festivals such as SXSW, Austin City Limits, Armadillo Bazaar[10] and the Batfest, among many others are highly attended with enthusiastic and often large audiences.
"Keep Austin Weird" seemingly promotes an independent, anti-corporate Austin, yet Outhouse Designs trademarked the slogan in 2003 and has used it ever since. Andrew Allemann, host of a satirical "Make Austin Normal" website, asks: "How can you have a commercial slogan that screams anti-corporation?"
Despite this criticism, the Keep Austin Weird campaign has proven successful. In April 2003, Borders bookstore withdrew plans to build a store near local bookstore BookPeople and local music shop Waterloo Records. In an article published by the Daily Texan, Abhinav Kumar writes:
A case study by Civic Economics, a strategic planning consulting firm, found that "local merchants generate substantially greater economic impact than chain retailers." The study revealed that if someone was to spend $100 at a chain like Borders, only $13 would be funneled back into the Austin economy. However, if you spent $100 at a local business such as Waterloo Records, about $45 would go back to fuel the Austin economy.

Weird Austin: Hippie Hollow ( git nekked,....whooo - -hooooo! )
If the idea of going swimming with a bunch of naked hippies conjures images of floating long gray ponytails attached to wrinkly bodies, and the subsequent eww reaction, it's important to remember that Lake Travis' skinnydipping central, Hippie Hollow, earned its name in the "Wonder Years" era of the late '60s, when hippies were young and cool.
Austin's tradition of officially embracing its weirdness and incorporating it into the city's identity may not have started with Hippie Hollow, but it's a long-time example. The nickname became official in 1985, when Travis County leased the location and renamed it from the way-less-colorful McGregor Park. That's also the date the park officially became a clothing-optional swimming hole, though it spent decades before that as a place for nudists and naturalists to take a dip in an unofficial capacity.

“Ewwww! Really?”
That’s the reaction people get when they hear that Madonna will be performing at Super Bowl XLVI half-time show with other musical guests M.I.A, Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj and LMFAO combined with a performance by Cirque du Soleil.
Together these artists cover a variety of music tastes. However, is this variety even appealing to viewers?
It’s like the idea of mixing all of your favorite candy into one bowl. The idea sounds great but the result is not as sweet.
Last year approximately 111 million people watched the Super Bowl. However, are the advertisers of Super Bowl telecasts reaching their target audience with the half-time show?
According to Sports Business Daily, the highest percent of people that watched the Super Bowl for the half-time show was the age group of 55 and up.
If advertiser’s desired audiences are not being reached, then why do they continue to pour so much money and time into this event?
The wardrobe malfunction with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake added a little life to the half-time show in 2004.
After this “malfunction” (which is still debatable if intended or not) half-time shows have become more focused on “wardrobe security” and having a full lineup and instead are just becoming a mess.
The acts that have been performing at the Super Bowl the past eight years are the networks attempts to get viewers interested in the show by combining an older music artist or legend with a newer musical artist.
The performer collaborations don’t mix well together and new performers just lack the experience needed to perform at such a big event.
Black Eyed Peas and Slash, Prince and Flo-Rida are some of the collaborations that just don’t make the cut.
Madonna, 53, is a music legend. This queen of music has been performing since 1979. Madonna opened the door for individuality in music and created a pathway for female performers. However, only so many comebacks and reinventing of one’s self can be done before all their acts seem to be the same.
Performers at half-time shows fail to represent the demographic that advertiser’s want.
M.I.A, the British singer, song-writer has been releasing songs since 2000 that have an ethnic edge that separates her from other artists. Songs like “Paper Planes” have given M.I.A her name and have been seen on movie soundtracks like “Slumdog Millionaire,” which contained three of her tracks. M.I.A’s genre has been classified as alternative dance and electronic.
Now how do you combine the genre of pop, rock and combine it with electronic, dance?
Today, collaborations and mash-ups of two different artists have become more popular. However, in a live performance, there is hopefully no auto tune, no editing and no mixing of low bass, beats and cross-overs. How is the performance expected to come out sounding like one smooth song and not like oil and water mixed into one bowl only to separate into a mess of a song making the stage slippery and hard to stand.
Now reconsider the half-time show, add four other acts to the Madonna equation. This Super Bowl show will look like a circus even without Cirque du Soleil.
People watch the Super Bowl for the football, the quality time with friends and commercials. The half-time show has merely the perfect opportunity for a bathroom break or grabbing your favorite snack from the refrigerator.
Now consider this: It is reported that in 2011 advertisers paid up to $3 million for a 30-second- commercial spot during the Super Bowl. Other companies like Chrysler, paid up to $12 million for a 2-minute-commercial slot.
Doesn’t this leave a bad position for advertisers? The half-time show viewer ratings from age 18 to 55 and over is a high of 7 percent out of the 111 million people watching the Super Bowl.
If this is the time when people get up to stretch their legs and get more pizza it is likely that an advertisers commercial will be missed and their millions of dollars paid will be wasted.
With 44 percent of people watching the Super Bowl solely for commercials, there is already a higher viewer rating than the half-time show itself.
Perhaps the networks should make the half-time show visible for only those attending the Super Bowl and allowed the viewers at home to continue to watch commercials during the 15-minute break. Then again, if this were to happen when would we all get our bathroom break?
(Super Bowl XLVI will premiere Sunday, February 5, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana while the NY Giants take on the New England Patriots.)“Ewwww! Really?”
That’s the reaction people get when they hear... more

“A Good Wife” is a brilliant five-minute animated short film by the talented Toronto-based illustrator W. Scott Forbes, featuring the artist’s signature minimalist painterly artwork. The film presents a quiet tragedy of mid-1900′s infidelity, the tale of a woman who is in utter shock over her torrid sexual affair with a man who is not her husband. Tormented by painful regret, she decides not to disclose her infidelity to her family. Thus, the family members carry on as though nothing is wrong, going about their daily lives in blissful ignorance. “A Good Wife” provides powerful imagery and music to narrate its plot, successfully leaving viewers feeling emotionally invested despite its short five-minute duration.
This piece includes colorful illustrations and the animated short film.

Johnny Otis Has Died
.
Johnny Otis, ‘Godfather of Rhythm and Blues,’ Dies at 90
.
By IHSAN TAYLOR
Published: January 19, 2012
Johnny Otis, the musician, bandleader, songwriter, impresario, disc jockey and talent scout who was often called “the godfather of rhythm and blues,” died on Tuesday at his home in Altadena, Calif. He was 90.
His death was confirmed by his manager, Terry Gould.
Leading a band in the late 1940s that combined the high musical standards of big band jazz with the raw urgency of gospel music and the blues, Mr. Otis played an important role in creating a new sound for a new audience of young urban blacks. Within a few years it would form the foundation of rock ’n’ roll.
With a keen ear for talent, he helped steer a long list of performers to stardom, among them Etta James, Jackie Wilson, Esther Phillips and Big Mama Thornton — whose hit recording of “Hound Dog,” made in 1952, four years before Elvis Presley’s, was produced by Mr. Otis and featured him on drums.
At Mr. Otis’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, Ms. James referred to him as her “guru.” (He received similar honors from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation and the Blues Foundation.)
Mr. Otis was also a political activist, a preacher, an artist, an author and even, late in life, an organic farmer. But it was in music that he left his most lasting mark.
Despite being a mover and shaker in the world of black music, Mr. Otis was not black, which as far as he was concerned was simply an accident of birth. He was immersed in African-American culture from an early age and said he considered himself “black by persuasion.”
“Genetically, I’m pure Greek,” he told The San Jose Mercury News in 1994. “Psychologically, environmentally, culturally, by choice, I’m a member of the black community.”
As a musician (he played piano and vibraphone in addition to drums) Mr. Otis can be heard on Johnny Ace’s “Pledging My Love,” Charles Brown’s “Drifting Blues” and other seminal rhythm and blues records, as well as on jazz recordings by Lester Young and Illinois Jacquet. As a bandleader and occasional vocalist, he had a string of rhythm and blues hits in the early 1950s and a Top 10 pop hit in 1958 with his composition “Willie and the Hand Jive,” later covered by Eric Clapton and others. His many other compositions included “Every Beat of My Heart,” a Top 10 hit for Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1961.
As a disc jockey (he was on the radio for decades starting in the 1950s and had his own Los Angeles television show from 1954 to 1961) he helped bring black vernacular music into the American mainstream.
Johnny Otis was born John Alexander Veliotes (some sources give his first name as Ioannis) on Dec. 28, 1921, in Vallejo, Calif., the son of Greek immigrants who ran a grocery. He grew up in a predominantly black area of Berkeley. Mr. Otis began his career as a drummer in 1939. In 1945 he formed a 16-piece band and recorded his first hit, “Harlem Nocturne.”
As big bands fell out of fashion, Mr. Otis stripped the ensemble down to just a few horns and a rhythm section and stepped to the forefront of the emerging rhythm and blues scene. In 1948 he and a partner opened a nightclub, the Barrelhouse, in the Watts section of Los Angeles.
From 1950 to 1952 Mr. Otis had 15 singles on Billboard’s rhythm and blues Top 40, including “Double Crossing Blues,” which was No. 1 for nine weeks. On the strength of that success he crisscrossed the country with his California Rhythm and Blues Caravan, featuring singers like Ms. Phillips, billed as Little Esther — whom he had discovered at a talent contest at his nightclub — and Hank Ballard, who a decade later would record the original version of “The Twist,” the song that ushered in a national dance craze.
Around this time Mr. Otis became a D.J. on the Los Angeles-area radio station KFOX. He was an immediate success, and soon had his own local television show as well. He had a weekly program on the Pacifica Radio Network in California from the 1970s until 2005.
Hundreds of Mr. Otis’s radio and television shows are archived at Indiana University. In addition, he is the subject of a coming documentary film, “Every Beat of My Heart: The Johnny Otis Story,” directed by Bruce Schmiechen, and a biography, “Midnight at the Barrelhouse,” by George Lipsitz, published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2010.
While he never stopped making music as long as his health allowed, Mr. Otis focused much of his attention in the 1960s on politics and the civil rights movement. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the California State Assembly and served on the staff of Mervyn M. Dymally, a Democratic assemblyman who later became a United States representative and California’s first black lieutenant governor.
Mr. Otis’s first book, “Listen to the Lambs” (1968), was largely a reflection on the political and social significance of the 1965 Watts riots.
In the mid-1970s Mr. Otis branched out further when he was ordained as a minister and opened the nondenominational Landmark Community Church in Los Angeles. While he acknowledged that some people attended just “to see what Reverend Hand Jive was talking about,” he took his position seriously and in his decade as pastor was involved in charitable work including feeding the homeless.
In the early 1990s he moved to Sebastopol, an agricultural town in northern California, and became an organic farmer, a career detour that he said was motivated by his concern for the environment. For several years he made and sold his own brand of apple juice in a store he opened to sell the produce he grew with his son Nick. The store doubled as a nightclub where Mr. Otis and his band performed.
Later that decade he published three more books: “Upside Your Head!: Rhythm and Blues on Central Avenue” (1993), a memoir of his musical life; “Colors and Chords” (1995), a collection of his paintings, sculptures, wood carvings and cartoons (his interest in art had begun when he started sketching cartoons on his tour bus in the 1950s to amuse his band); and “Red Beans & Rice and Other Rock ’n’ Roll Recipes” (1997), a cookbook.
Mr. Otis continued to record and perform into the 21st century. His bands often included family members: his son John Jr., known as Shuggie, is a celebrated guitarist who played with him for many years, and Nick was his longtime drummer. Two grandsons, Lucky and Eric Otis, also played guitar with him.
In addition to his sons, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Phyllis Walker; two daughters, Janice Johnson and Laura Johnson; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Long after he was a force on the rhythm and blues charts, Mr. Otis was a familiar presence at blues and even jazz festivals. What people wanted to call his music, he said, was of no concern to him.
“Society wants to categorize everything, but to me it’s all African-American music,” he told The San Francisco Chronicle in 1993. “The music isn’t just the notes, it’s the culture — the way Grandma cooked, the way Grandpa told stories, the way the kids walked and talked.”

Well some good news finally on Iran!
***
Israeli Madonna fans are asking their country to give peace a chance — at least until after the Material Girl's late-spring concert there.
They're rallying around, what else, a Facebook page, called "Bibi don't start a war with Iran until after Madonna's show on May 29."
Translated, that message suggests that Israel will eventually attack Iran if Iran doesn't back off on its nuclear development program.
But it asks that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delay any such action until after the Madonna show, because of the likelihood that foreign artists would not want to play in a country with a war in progress.
Israel, like other countries with a history of military tension, has been a nervous gig for some artists over the years, going back to the 2001 cancellation of a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.Read more:... more

Many musicians draw creativity from emotion. The human experience has inspired works by Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, John Lennon and even local musicians you hear at bars, restaurants and parks.
Paul Psathas can never be told he lacks inspiration. Vetted shows this through passionate guitar work and poetry worthy of academia.
Inspired by a series of hard times and injustices, Vetted proves to be a social commentary of the struggles of both the many and the few.
“It’s just an album that had to be made,” said Psathas humbly. Death by cancer, failed relationships and even suicide fueled the flaming crusade of lyrics and harmonies. Many musicians draw creativity from emotion. The human experience has inspired works... more

DJ Nave E

First off, THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU for coming by, and if you have downloaded, podcast, bumped, grooved, jived, or in anyway enjoyed my mixes, whether featured here, or you’ve seen me play live, or heard me live via the internet, this thanks is for you. It is the support (and lack there of) that has been propelling me to continue forward with this project and dream.
Let me clarify a few things so that you can be on the same page as moi. I recognize and realize there are differences between a DJ, a Disc Jockey, a radio media personality, a jukebox, a Genius (or alternative technology) tool mix and finally a mixologist. I would classify myself as a mixologist. Let me define that for you. A mixologist is someone who isn’t merely beat matching songs continuously, they are following a theme, muse, vibe, or concept. The songs or compositions and elements they use are to convey a bigger message or meaning than the sum of their individual parts. Hence the theme of “synergism” within my compositions. Unfortunately, copyright law and the current legal climate in regards to this art form have not kept up with the creative process, and corporations are rightfully interested in keeping their bottom lines protected, as well as making sure they continue to barely feed the artists they represent. The current music climate in my homeland of Chicago (birthplace of House and original forms of current dance music), is a sad one, and most bars and what few clubs that are left do not understand or know how to capitalize on such artistic expression. Sounds like a sad state huh?
Well despite this climate of indifference, the lack of social change within my community, and a well demonstrated lack of proper funding and income, I drudge on. I firmly believe that one good mix can change a life, save a life, enhance a life, and definitely enrich all those that experience it. I would love to be able to get ample compensation for the craft that has taken 20 years of my life (and subsequent portions of my income) to be able to fully realize. After years of frustration, and “divorce”, I realize that you can never quit on your TRUE love. I’m not some altruistic moony-headed 60’s based flower child with an utterly utopian vision of how one track/mix and save the world. Nothing against those who have those beliefs, and God Bless them as they strive to achieve it. However, I do believe in the power of a damn good pulsing bass line complete with a complex rhythmic structure that hits hard and drives relentless for hours and just leaves you breathless, sweaty, makeup everywhere, sore and ultimately joyous, fulfilled, and a sense of WOW, that was indescribable, yet you feel it in your bones, soul, heart, and mind for days after your initial listening, and for some reason you can’t seem to stop playing it, all the while going over certain parts of it, cause you missed this one the first time, or wait, where did that come from, I didn’t hear that before types of experiences.
With those explanations out of the way, here is what I can promise you that you will find in each and every single mix that I cast out into the deep abyss of the internet.
It will be at least ONE full CD length mix
It will be 100% duplicatable live
It isn’t a virtual multi-tracked masterpiece
If at all possible made from the promotional and white label vinyls/ cd singles
will be recorded in ONE TAKE, ONE SHOT. There might be slight or subtle abnormalities that are inherent in the mix, which might not be originally intended, yet in the final overall greater good work within the mix as a whole. I’m certainly not perfect, and my mixes aren’t either. You will not get something over processed, re-edited, mixed down, effects laden to hell, or otherwise not like what a live performance will generate.
So with those thoughts, and a slight glimpse, I hope you are ready for the journey I am about to undertake. I hope this gains me more exposure, and recognition from WITHIN the community. Fame and fortune are niceties, but not necessary. A legion of followers with some of the loosest necks on the planet IS. Buckle up, buy a damn good subwoofer, alert the neighbors and the wife, and I look forward to you sharing me with your aerobic workout, morning jog, power lovemaking session, cleaning your house, or as the next big barn-burning house party you need to get started and turned into your next Paris Hilton-styled party.
Are you ready? Let’s go
No worries, the strobe light is still lit to guide the way..For Booking Info
