Mother who made sex tape with her son, 16, tracked him down using Facebook after 15 years without contact

Mistie Atkinson, 32-year-old mother from Napa County, California, who was arrested in last March and accused of engaging in sex with her 16-year-old biological son, has pleaded no contest Tuesday to incest and other felonies.

Authorities arrested Atkinson after they found her in a hotel room with her biological 16-year-old son. According to Napa police, they found videos on the boy's phone that showed Atkinson performing oral sex and having sexual intercourse with the teen. The videos were dated Feb. 3 and 4, court records show. She's also accused of sending sexually explicit images to the boy electronically. The boy's father had sole custody of him and Atkinson had not seen the child since he was 2 years old, before she tracked the boy using Facebook. Atkinson also talked her son about running away together. The teen was aware Atkinson was his biological mother.

Atkinson of of Nice, Lake County, pleaded “no contest” to incest, oral copulation with someone under the age of 18, sending harmful matter and contact with a minor for sexual offense against her biological son, a Napa resident, between October and March.

The father of the boy said in court filings that Atkinson and his son, now 17, began communicating with each other on Facebook and with the telephone starting last September, according to the restraining order the man filed in County Superior Court in November.
Atkinson, the man said in the court document, “had been talking to him in manner that no mother should talk to their son.”
“She started to have a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship with him, not a mother-and-son relationship. It got to a point where their conversation began talking about harming me and killing off her boyfriend she was (now) living with. She was sending him pictures of her body and basically seducing him. The relationship needs to stop and we told both of them but they continue to get in contact with each other. It’s unhealthy and they need to stay apart,” the man said.
The father obtained a restraining order against Atkinson in December, according to the court document.

Atkinson reportedly faces four years and eight months in state prison under a plea deal but she could be released in only two years and four months with credit for good behavior.

Lieberman: Hold Obama ‘accountable’ for Secret Service scandal

Independent Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman on Sunday insisted that President Barack Obama and the White House should be held accountable for a sex scandal within the Secret Service and for lavish spending at the General Services Administration (GSA).

“It would be unfair to hold President Obama responsible for this outrageous behavior at the Secret Service and the GSA, but it is fair to hold the president accountable,” Lieberman told Fox News host Chris Wallace. “What do I mean when I say the president should be held accountable? The buck stops at the president’s desk. He’s the leader of our government. He now has to be acting with a kind of relentless determination to find out exactly what happened and to make sure the people who work for him at the Secret Service and the GSA and everywhere else in the government don’t let anything like this happen again.”

The Connecticut senator also called for an investigation to determine whether White House staff were involved in the incident where Secret Services agents allegedly solicited prostitutes in Columbia ahead of the president’s recent visit there.

“I’d say it’s a reasonable question,” Lieberman explained. “I think the White House ought to be conducting its own internal investigation of White House personnel who were in Cartagena just to makes sure that none of them were involved in this kind of inappropriate behavior.”

“I understand a White House advance person doesn’t have quite the same range of responsibility as a Secret Service agent does. On the other hand, a White House advance person knows exactly where the president is going to be at any time. … So, that’s an important question and the White House ought to be taking [Republican Iowa Sen. Chuck] Grassley’s inquiry not defensively, but making sure they answer the questions.”

The political use of forced nudity by anti-democratic regimes is long established. Forcing people to undress is the first step in breaking down their sense of individuality and dignity and reinforcing their powerlessness. Enslaved women were sold naked on the blocks in the American south, and adolescent male slaves served young white ladies at table in the south, while they themselves were naked: their invisible humiliation was a trope for their emasculation. Jewish prisoners herded into concentration camps were stripped of clothing and photographed naked, as iconic images of that Holocaust reiterated.

One of the most terrifying moments for me when I visited Guantanamo prison in 2009 was seeing the way the architecture of the building positioned glass-fronted shower cubicles facing intentionally right into the central atrium – where young female guards stood watch over the forced nakedness of Muslim prisoners, who had no way to conceal themselves. Laws and rulings such as this are clearly designed to bring the conditions of Guantanamo, and abusive detention, home.

I have watched male police and TSA members standing by side by side salaciously observing women as they have been "patted down" in airports. I have experienced the weirdly phrased, sexually perverse intrusiveness of the state during an airport "pat-down", which is always phrased in the words of a steamy paperback ("do you have any sensitive areas? … I will use the back of my hands under your breasts …"). One of my Facebook commentators suggested, I think plausibly, that more women are about to be found liable for arrest for petty reasons (scarily enough, the TSA is advertising for more female officers).

I interviewed the equivalent of TSA workers in Britain and found that the genital groping that is obligatory in the US is illegal in Britain. I believe that the genital groping policy in America, too, is designed to psychologically habituate US citizens to a condition in which they are demeaned and sexually intruded upon by the state – at any moment.

The most terrifying phrase of all in the decision is justice Kennedy's striking use of the term "detainees" for "United States citizens under arrest". Some members of Occupy who were arrested in Los Angeles also reported having been referred to by police as such. Justice Kennedy's new use of what looks like a deliberate activation of that phrase is illuminating.

Ten years of association have given "detainee" the synonymous meaning in America as those to whom no rights apply – especially in prison. It has been long in use in America, habituating us to link it with a condition in which random Muslims far away may be stripped by the American state of any rights. Now the term – with its associations of "those to whom anything may be done" – is being deployed systematically in the direction of … any old American citizen.
