I Otaku ; Identifying as a J-culture enthusiast
by Colette Bennett
[ When I first started watching anime, I had never heard of the word otaku. However, in 1983 Japanese author Akio Nakamori wrote a little series called "An Investigation of Otaku" in loli manga mag Manga Burikko, and the word caught on as a Japanese slang word referring to a person with an obsessive interest, specifically in manga, anime or videogames. Sound familiar?
One thing a lot of American Japanophiles may not know, however, is that otaku is often considered a disparaging term by the Japanese. ]

this is a "Whose Who Most Wanted" list by IGN -
~ TOP 100 Videogame Villains ! ( in their opinion )
[ According to Batman, criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot. Apparently he's never played a videogame. The bad guys in games are usually the last thing stopping the hero from getting the girl or saving the world. They typically don't run away, and they are often the ones setting nearly insurmountable obstacles for heroes to, well, surmount. Even after the heroes run their gauntlet, the villains are ready for a throwdown.
So what makes a great villain? He or she not only has to pose a real threat to the hero, but they have to be memorable. It's a villain's destiny to be defeated. That's just how it goes. But when the villain lives on in our hearts rather than the hero, they've won in their own way.
Here is our list of the best villains in games. Some scared us. Others made us laugh. All of them stayed with us long after we turned the game off. ]

Defcon 2011 is in full hacking swing, and Itzhak Avraham -- "Zuk" for short -- and his company Zimperium have unveiled the Android Network Toolkit for easy hacking on the go. Need to find vulnerabilities on devices using nearby networks? The app, dubbed "Anti" for short, allows you to simply push a button to do things like search a WiFi network for potential targets, or even take control of a PC trojan-style.
To do this, it seeks out weak spots in older software using known exploits, which means you may want to upgrade before hitting up public WiFi. According to Forbes, it's much like Firesheep, and Zuk refers to Anti as a "penetration tool for the masses." Apparently, his end-goal is to simplify "advanced" hacking and put it within pocket's reach, but he also hopes it'll be used mostly for good. Anti should be available via the Android Market this week for free, alongside a $10 "corporate upgrade." Consider yourself warned.Defcon 2011 is in full hacking swing, and Itzhak Avraham -- "Zuk" for short... more

For fans of Futurama, the hunt is back on. With new episodes beginning tonight on Comedy Central (10 p.m., 9 p.m. Central), there will be even more freeze-frame gags to obsess about, promises head writer and executive producer David X. Cohen. “Unlike Easter eggs, which you stumble upon by accident, we sneak in things in the background that you have to look for more actively, and if you find them, it’s a bonus,” Cohen said. “But don’t worry, there’s no requirement to notice these things.”
Before setting fans free to search the new season for hidden gags and references, Cohen has revealed to Vulture six clandestine geeky in-jokes and well-cloaked bits of foreshadowing from past seasons that only the most dedicated Futuramites might have spotted. And some will come into play again in the plots for the new episodes, like when Bender’s brain goes from microprocessor to macroprocessor; Leela’s mother — who holds a Ph.D. in alien language studies, or Exolinguistics — returns; and the gang visits a head museum. Also on the way: guest stars Stephen Hawking, Buzz Aldrin, and Patton Oswalt. But they'll be easier to spot than the following moments were. For fans of Futurama, the hunt is back on. The world's fastest supercomputer has been built in Japan (surprise, surprise) — and it is as powerful as one million desktop PCs.
The supercomputer, K Computer, can perform a quadrillion — or 8,000,000,000,000,000 — calculations a second, and it beat the previous record-holder by nearly a factor of four.
But no rest for the wicked (as in awesome this time) as the scientists at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research in Japan who built the K Computer will improve it to being able to make 10,000trillion calculations a second.
The machine is faster than the next five most powerful computers combined.
It is also three times faster than the previous number-one, China's Tianhe-1A super-computer at its National University of Defence Technology.
The K costs £6million a year to run and comprises 672 circuit board-filled cabinets containing nearly 70,000 processors in a climate-controlled warehouse.
Professor Jack Dongarra, who compiles a list of the world's fastest computers every six months, said: "It's a very impressive machine — it's a lot more powerful than the other computers."
The K computer will be used for global climate research, meteorology, disaster prevention, and medicine, according to RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science (AICS) in Kobe.

Life is SHORT ! Grab your dice and roll!
( Thats how WE role. )
No more excuses: start playing Dungeons and Dragons on May 11
A common complaint we hear when we write about board games or tabletop role-playing is that many readers don't know people in real life who enjoy that sort of gaming. The trick was to find a group of like-minded gamers in high school, and then keep in touch as you all grow up. If you didn't manage to do that, you're having a bad time. Asking people if they'd like to be your dwarf at the water cooler can lead to awkward conversations. I have friends I can barely tolerate, but I treat them well because they can put together a good game.
I'm totally joking—Rodney, how's the campaign coming?
At any rate, it's time to find some new excuses, because the next series of Dungeons and Dragons Encounters is beginning on May 11. This is a program we've written about in the past. The concept is simple: by offering a standalone campaign that's playable by beginners in short sessions, it's easier than ever for people to begin playing.

OR - "Where has all the good porn gone / long time passing . . . "
When I was a young teen, porn was quite the precious commodity. You couldn’t just grab your iPhone out of your pocket and go to XXXBigButtHoneysFuckySucky.com and have two women licking each other’s unmentionables at a moments notice. You had to work for it. It came down to either shoplifting it from the local newsagents, finding what used to be known as “forest, or woods porn” (more on this later) or nicking some from your mate’s dad’s stash.
The late 90’s was all about sitting up late at night with SBS on mute, waiting for Weather Woman or Chinese Ghost Stories. That moment where all the waiting was finally rewarded with a brief flash of tit or – no way – is that vag? That moment was always spectacular and well worth the effort.
Let’s travel forward through time a little. . . . .

-Scenes for Joe Johnston's forthcoming superhero flick Captain America: The First Avenger were being filmed in London's Trafalgar Square on Sunday.
The film, expected to be released next July, will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Cue dramatic music.
Sadly, major cast members Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones were absent from the shoot as extras dressed in 1940s attire were filmed celebrating the Nazi surrender on VE Day.
But fingers crossed there's still a chance to get a glimpse of Mr. Evans in lycra as this September the streets of Manchester and Liverpool will be transformed into 1940s New York for a dramatic car chase.
Actor Neal McDonough, who stars in the film as S.H.I.E.L.D officer Dum Dum Dugan recently praised the casting of Evans, saying that he admired the actor's dedication to the role.
He told Bang Showbiz: "He's great in the role, a great guy, he's one of the people I'd love to work with every day. He's going to be someone you're going to be watching for a very long time. He's so dedicated to his craft, he works really hard."
McDonough also revealed that he had enjoyed being part of the cast of the film, adding: "I'm happy as I could possibly be to be a part of Captain America. For an actor it's fantastic - for me as a kid, Captain America was one of my favourites - so to be Dum Dum it's just been a blast. I'm having a great old time killing the bad guys."
