An Al Jazeera report on the Spanish general election gets photobombed by a pair of gay men furiously sucking face.
The landslide victory of opposition leader Mariano Rajoy and his conservative Popular Party over the ruling Socialist Party is widely viewed as a threat to same-sex marriage, which became legal in Spain in 2005.An Al Jazeera report on the Spanish general election gets photobombed by a pair of gay... more

Homophobic Rush Limbaugh says that Penn State accused pedophile Jerry Sandusky is “a gay guy” but the “gay lobby” won’t let people say that, and adds the mere mention of this will probably “end my career.”
Limbaugh asserted, apparently without any evidence whatsoever, that “Sandusky has to be — he’s a gay guy. Nobody’s mentioning that aspect, because it’s just too dangerous.”
Whether Sandusky is gay or not is totally immaterial. Experts say that men who molest young boys aren’t necessarily gay, and there is no credible link between homosexuality and pedophilia.

Sex work holds an odd niche in America. To some, it's strictly taboo in any situation. To others it's a personal choice based on pay, circumstance (both private and public), or genuine preference for the work. “A Year in New York” is an enchanting, emotionally moving five-minute documentary short film by videographer Andrew Clancy, accompanied by Irish singer/songwriter James Vincent McMorrow’s beautiful song “We Don’t Eat.” Sometimes words cannot do justice to life in a big city, as “A Year in New York” so entrancingly confirms. The film reveals that despite the chaos that surrounds urban life, there is a common thread of excitement and resilient optimism.
“A Year in New York” presents the viewer with a stream of quintessential New York visual imagery, from the No. 7 train rolling past Silvercup Studios' iconic film and television complex, to die-hard Rangers fans losing it at Madison Square Garden; from runners and rollerbladers cruising through city parks, to late-night, outdoor summer concerts; from blinking beacons on NYPD police cars, to the sparkling lights of the colossal Rockefeller Christmas Tree, resulting in a stunning homage to the city that never sleeps and to its lucky inhabitants.
This piece includes a number of wonderful high-resolution color photographs, a magnificent photo-gallery and the entrancing documentary short film.

AMERICAblog Gay points to a Brazilian ex-gay leader who has come out as gay and harshly condemned the ineffective therapy he spent decades promoting.
Sergio Viula co-founded the Movement for the Healthy Sexuality (MOSES), but now says ex-gays don’t exist and promoting ex-gay therapy is “brainwashing” and an “act of violence” that relies upon reinforcing internalized homophobia. Viula is now encouraging young gay people to find spiritual outlets that affirm their sexual orientation:
VIULA: Nobody really quit being gay. There were relationships even within the group, between an activity and another, they would always find time for that. Can you figure out how much suffering to myself and to all of those who have already worked or been influenced by this kind of ‘ministry’? That’s enraging! And there are people repeating that stupid discourse until today. [...]
Yes, it was an act of violence against ourselves, as we had internalized the homophobia that surrounded us from early childhood, as well as against the others, because we reproduced that very homophobia which they had internalized by themselves long before. We just reinforced it even more. [...]
Religious conversion which does not admit and CELEBRATES your homosexuality does not deserve your time and talent. If you want to attend a church, search for one which is mature enough to even question the validity of its own religious statements. But, preferably, live your life without relying on existential braces whatever they are.
Viula is only the latest ex-gay leader to recant his previous teachings. John Smid of Love In Action recently began doing the same. The testimony these changed men share is important to highlight, but it does not undo the harm that ex-gay therapy continues to cause individuals every day. The desire to change one’s sexual orientation (and the belief that it is possible) is motivated by the anti-gay stigma present throughout society. Only by challenging that demonization will the harm ever come to an end.

A shocking video of a gay student being beaten at Union-Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, has surfaced reports Channel 6 WSYX news.
In the clip, which was filmed on a cell phone and then posted to Facebook, the attacker, who has not been named, can be seen waiting for the gay student, who wishes to remain anonymous, in a classroom.
Once the student arrives, the bully begins severely beating "the holy living crap out of him," says his mother.
Even though the boy tried to get away and asked "Why are you doing this?" the attack continued.
WSYX reports the student received a possible concussion and a chipped tooth.
The student also says that the perpetrator wrote "Check out the definition of a faggot" on his Facebook page two days earlier.
The attacker received three days suspension, but the mother of the gay student says that is not good enough and she is going to file charges.
She added, "For all those people that have hate in their hearts, they need to let it go because people are going to be who they are."
Anti-LGBT bullying is, sadly, not a new phenomenon and despite a very public outcry in recent months, it continues to rear it tragic, ugly head.
In recent weeks two students, Jamey Rodemeyer and Jamie Hubley, both committed suicide after being subjected to bullying because of their sexuality.
Towleroad adds:
"An anti-bullying bill is pending in Ohio's legislature. Ohio House Bill 208 would add sexual orientation, gender identity, and other enumerated protections to Ohio’s anti-bullying law without changing the general prohibition against any bullying or harassment. Proponents of the bill are seeking testimony in the House Education Committee, according to Equality Ohio, but the bill has not been a priority of the committee."A shocking video of a gay student being beaten at Union-Scioto High School in... more

Linda Wall, a conservative independent Virginia candidate for the House of Delegates, admitted on Wednesday that she had an affair with a female student as a junior high gym teacher in the early 1970s, but said she has changed.
"I've never tried to hide that I was in homosexuality," she said in an interview with the AP. "If anybody Googles me, they would find that out there," she said. "Forty years ago I was a different person. I was a heavy pot smoker with ... impaired judgment and made some bad choices," she added. The student was a minor at the time, meaning Wall could still be prosecuted if she comes forward.
In a 2006 deposition as part of a defamation lawsuit former Republican candidate Paul Jost filed against her and state Sen. Thomas K. Norment Jr., Wall confirmed that she had sexual relations with a minor. She said resigned her position after the superintendent of the unspecified Prince George County, Va. school confronted her about the allegation.http://tinyurl.com/3c23cgfLinda Wall, a conservative independent Virginia candidate for the House of Delegates,... more

ast week, an upcoming gallery show of work by the late photographer Tim Hetherington was announced, the inaugural exhibition of The Bronx Documentary Center that was founded earlier this year. The exhibition, titled “Visions,” is a collection of never-before-seen photos by Hetherington, a British-American photographer who lived in Brooklyn. He was a longtime Vanity Fair and CNN contributor who died in April while covering the conflict in Libya, along with fellow conflict photographer and Brooklyn resident Chris Hondros.
It is amazingly ironic that the announcement of the exhibition of Tim Hetherington’s work coincided precisely with published reports that Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, the erratic, provocative dictator who ruled Libya for 42 years, had finally met a violent and vengeful death in the hands of the Libyan forces that drove him from power.
Hetherington was most famous for his Academy Award-nominated 2010 documentary “Restrepo,” which he filmed with Sebastian Junger in 2007. The film follows the Army platoon assigned to what was then the most dangerous posting in Afghanistan, The Korengal Valley, to clear it of insurgents and gain the trust of the local populace. In the course of the film, the platoon builds a new outpost they name after Juan Sebastian Restrepo, a comrade who was killed during the early days of the 15-month assignment.
On April 20, Hetherington was trailing rebels in the besieged coastal city of Misurata in Libya, when he and Hondros were killed in an explosion from a rocket-propelled grenade. He left behind 40 rolls of undeveloped 220mm film. The negatives revealed a fascinating mix of what Tim called “the theater of war,” men strutting with their guns, as well as landscapes, graffiti, and men firing guns and rocket-propelled grenades in battle. And a vase of plastic flowers in a bullet-marked room. Seventeen of the prints will be on display in the Bronx Documentary Center show as 36- by 30-inch prints hanging from the ceiling on two large wood panels, beginning October 22nd.
This piece includes a number of high-resolution color photographs, a remarkable photo-gallery and five documentary short films.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and her husband, Marcus Bachmann, sought to clarify their position on gays and lesbians in a new interview with People Magazine.
Michele Bachmann said in 2004 that being "involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle" amounts to "personal bondage, personal despair and personal enslavement." She added that she was not "bashing" anyone.
Her husband has compared gays to "barbarians" who need to be "disciplined." He runs a Christian counseling center that has offered therapy to try to change sexual orientation, according to an undercover investigation by Truth Wins Out, a gay rights organization.
In the Oct. 31 issue of People, the couple defended themselves against accusations of harboring an anti-gay bias. "There's never been a bias," Marcus Bachmann said. "I'm no better than anyone else," Michele added.

Apple has posted this video of the tribute to Steven P. Jobs, which took place last week at the Apple campus in Cupertino, California. The event, “A Celebration of Steve’s Life,” was held to commemorate Mr. Jobs, who died this month after battling pancreatic cancer.
The video begins with Timothy D. Cook, Apple’s chief executive, who shared thoughts of Mr. Jobs’s work at Apple over the years and noted that no one in attendance would be working at Apple if it wasn’t for Mr. Jobs. “There is one more thing he leaves us; he leaves us with each other,” Mr. Cook said. “Other than his family, Apple would be his finest creation.” Mr. Cook also said the last piece of advice Mr. Jobs gave him was “to never ask what he would do; just do what’s right.”
Following Mr. Cook’s speech, Al Gore, the former Vice President and an Apple board member, spoke. Some of Mr. Jobs’s favorite musicians played at the event. Norah Jones sang the Bob Dylan song “Forever Young.” The British band Coldplay performed “Fix You” and “Yellow,” while thousands of Apple employees listened and helped celebrate the co-founder’s life.
This piece includes photographs and the full video of the commemoration.

LOS ANGELES — Like other aspiring reformers before her, Ani Zonneveld takes positions that make her unpopular with her religion's spiritual leaders, in this case America's Islamic elders.
Not only does she lead prayers — a task normally reserved for men — but she is an outspoken advocate for gay, bisexual and transgender Muslims. Later this year, she plans to officiate at the Islamic wedding of a lesbian couple, which is perfectly acceptable by her reading of the Quran.

Kenya Gilliam, 27-year-old woman from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been convicted on six counts of rape of a child younger than 13 and got six sentences of life in prison.
Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Jody Luebbers imposed the sentences on Gilliam after she was convicted in last August of six counts of rape of a child. Because the victim was younger than 13 when the rapes happened, the crimes carried a potential life sentence. The judge imposed a life sentence on each.
Gilliam, began having sex with the child when he was 7 and ended when he was 11. She had vaginal intercourse and performed oral sex on him. One of the boy's relatives was in a lesbian relationship with Gilliam.
Gilliam's attorney asked for a lesser sentence, arguing that Gilliam has been abused as a child and ostracized because she is gay.
