A new phone is being launched in the UK that will set you back less than a loaf or bread or a double cheeseburger (what ever you prefer) - the 99p mobile phone.
The OT-209 mobile phone is made by French firm Alcatel and is the cheapest pay-as-you-go phone ever to be sold in the UK, it will be availeble at Carphone Warehouse.
Customers, who are not tied to an expensive contract, will be connected to the Virgin network.
The only catch is they will have to buy £10 of credit to make calls, otherwise there are no other fees other than the cost of making calls and text messages.
The phone is aimed at first time users and people phased by technology. It has just a few features and is uncomplicated to use.

I downloaded Game Dev Story at the recommendation of a game design friend and colleague. Laughing wickedly, he told me I’d love the game but “don’t expect to get anything else done today”. That was 4 days ago. Thinking it was just another casual iPhone game, I ignored the warning and went ahead.
We spent every last penny on the dev kit, let's hope this one's a winner!
Every now and then, we see a game that captures our hearts and minds with the perfect blend of Fun, Creativity, Graphics and Sound. A game worthy of the Hall of Fame and perhaps a sequel or two. That’s just what Game Dev Story is about. Making that game, or at least trying to.

Earlier this week, Facebook was granted a broad patent on mobile location-based social networks. It seems to cover everything from members of a social network sharing their location with each other through their mobile phones to manual checkins. In other words, it sounds like Facebook just patented Foursquare’s main product.
The application was submitted in February, 2007, well before Foursquare was even founded. But it forgot to mention one thing. In the long list of more than 50...Earlier this week, Facebook was granted a broad patent on mobile location-based... more

"North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has found an unlikely ally to help raise cash for his impoverished regime: The Dude, the pot-smoking underachiever played by Jeff Bridges in the movie “The Big Lebowski.”
Programmers from North Korea’s General Federation of Science and Technology developed a 2007 mobile-phone bowling game based on the 1998 film, as well as “Men in Black: Alien Assault,” according to two executives at Nosotek Joint Venture Company, which markets software from North Korea for foreign clients. Both games were published by a unit of News Corp., the New York-based media company, a spokeswoman for the unit said.
They represent a growing software industry championed by Kim that is boosting the economy of one of the poorest countries in the world and raising the technological skills of workers. Contracting with North Korean companies is legal under United Nations sanctions unless they are linked to the arms trade.
“From the government’s point of view, foreign currency is the main reason to nurture and support these activities,” said Andrei Lankov, an academic specializing in North Korea at Seoul- based Kookmin University. “These activities help to fund the regime, but at the same time they bring knowledge of the outside world to people who could effect change.”
The technological education of graduates from North Korean universities has “become significantly better,” Volker Eloesser, a founder of Pyongyang-based Nosotek, said in an e- mail. Companies with “hundreds or even thousands of staff each” operate in North Korea, he said.
Double-Edged Sword
Better trained programmers may also bolster the regime’s cyberwarfare capabilities, said Kim Heung Kwang, who taught computer science at universities in the north for 19 years before defecting to South Korea in 2004. South Korea’s presidential office said July 28 the nation had received intelligence that North Korea may plan an Internet-based attack.
Won Sei Hoon, director of South Korea’s National Intelligence Service, told lawmakers last October that North Korea’s postal ministry was responsible for cyber attacks in July 2009 on dozens of websites in South Korea and the U.S.
President Barack Obama widened U.S. financial sanctions on North Korea on Aug. 30, freezing assets of North Korean officials, companies and government agencies suspected of “illicit and deceptive activities” that support the regime’s weapons industry."

Shortly after releasing the new iPhone 4 consumers found the phone’s weak point in it’s newly designed antenna. Holding the iPhone 4 in hand in a certain way at low signal areas will significantly decrease the signal of the iPhone. This is serious considering that not holding your phone is the best way to operate the iPhone. Well, Apple have made a good job testing and comparing this issue to other smart phones to come up with a compensation plan. All new iPhones can be refunded within 30 days of purchase or a so called bumper can be used to cover the antenna which solves the signal problem.Shortly after releasing the new iPhone 4 consumers found the phone’s weak point... more

Last week at the Newhouse conference for Monetizing Online Business, I caught up with Foursquare Co-founder and CEO Dennis Crowley to ask him what every entrepreneur wants to know from the hottest guy in mobile start-up land: What is your single best piece of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?
In addition to the answer Dennis offers in the video, he also noted that we should expect some exciting things from Foursquare this summer as they are working hard to hit the same tipping point which catapulted Twitter into the main stream. Given how well they’ve succeeded on Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone and Google’s (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android phones, we think they have a great chance to make it to the big time.

San Francisco is set to be the first city in the US to require mobile phone retailers to post radiation levels next to handsets they sell.
The board of supervisors, or council, voted 10-1 to approve the measure, with final approval expected next week.
"This is about helping people make informed choices," said the law's chief sponsor, Supervisor Sophie Maxwell.
The mobile phone industry said studies showed cell phone radiation was not harmful to people.
