The Devolution Of Gloria Allred

Truth, Justice and the Hookeriest American Way.

You’ve got to love Gloria Allred. She is the omnipresent voice of reason, or voice anyway, in just about every court case on Earth. She is the Energizer Bunny of Law (GloBu). Allred takes on any case that is guaranteed a covering press corps, most notably the Happy Hookers of Tiger Woods, Rachel Uchitel and Joselyn James. Gloria’s case file reads like a venerable Who’s Who of Who Cares. She has stood tall with women of all sizes and colors in the name of justice, or 50% of the take. In certain situations, Gloria just chimes in even though she is not officially involved in the case, such in the Octomom saga, where she accused Nadya Suleman of of being an opportunist. Takes one to know one. Recently she piped up with an open letter to the court regarding the Mel Gibson case. Well, Oksana Grigorieva would have been the perfect client for GloBu. Do I sense sour grapes? Could it be that Gloria is losing her touch? Seems like GloBu is just talking about a lot of cases rather than actually working on them. She was also right in there blabbering about Charlie Sheen’s kids. Boy would Brooke Mueller have been a doozy of a client, a.k.a. the one that got away.

There is an article about Lindsay Lohan and her courtroom fashion choices in The New York Times Style section by Ruth La Ferla. The best part of the article includes Little Gloria Unhappy At Last Allred, who was quick to chime in and judge Lindsay. “If anything, her outfits are alienating,” Ms. Allred said. Sounds like someone we know is frustrated for not snagging Lohan as a client. Besides, those two would be clawing for positioning in front of the camera, so it would never work. Give me Lindsay Lohan over any of Madame Allred‘s hookers or damsels in distress any day.

Gloria Allred started out as the Superman (though she’d probably like to be called the Wonder Woman) of the law, taking on such institutions such as Boy Scouts of America, Aaron Spelling and The Friars Club representing women’s rights. She has sued Senators, took on Dodi Al Fayed, and anyone who remotely seemed like a bully. Over the years, however, Globu has evolved her brand into a media bully, jumping onto cases where she knows she will get extensive coverage, as was the case of Chase Bank versus Debrahlee Lorenzana, the sultry bank teller with a heart of gold. She stood by Amber Heard, the other woman in the murder case against Scott Peterson, an awkward spot if ever there was one, and a host of other sensational courtroom dramas. But none as major as the O.J. Simpson versus Nicole Brown’s family in THE case of the last century. I am sure Ms. Allred has no plans of slowing down. Not while priests are still molesting little children. Oh, come on, you know that’s next.

Music Probe Uncovers Timeless Find

The most recent updates came this week from the Apple Corporation about the recording artist known as Lord Hector Diono, an international online music store release of his first single on the Island Def Jam digital music roster entitled “Jacob’s ladder” and a second release in the same week, a single entitled “Convicts”. Hector Diono stated in an online community network site that his next single will separate him from every rapper that has ever touched the microphone. Nobody knows exactly what that means, I know he’s getting it in, and I’ve had time to review his material, he’s nice, but this kind of talk in the hip hop community can raise a lot of egos and concerns about the artist’s angle here. Hector documented the name of the single “Why I Gangsta” and he stated online that it is a certified game changer, aimed at American churches and the mixed messages they send. The single will be released on the Island Def Jam label March 1 2011 despite the fact that even Hector, who produced and performed the record believes it's too far ahead of it's time and will take time to catch on, we’ll see, “I’ll be checking for you Lord Hector”. Report: NYT Pondering WikiLeaks-Esque Submission System

Does the New York Times want to be the next WikiLeaks? Executive editor Bill Keller tells Yahoo's Cutline that the paper is looking into a submission system that would let leakers send documents directly to the Times rather than going through sites like WikiLeaks.

"A small group from computer-assisted reporting and interactive news, with advice from the investigative unit and the legal department, has been discussing options for creating a kind of EZ Pass lane for leakers," Keller told Cutline.

Among the models for the Times's project is Al Jazeera's Transparency Unit, which allows submissions through an encrypted system. It launched earlier this month, and Al Jazeera recently began reporting on 1,700 documents related to the Israel-Palestine conflict, the Cutline said.

The Times was one of several publications that accepted and published data submitted to WikiLeaks - from data about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the more recent State Department cables leak.

WikiLeaks has come under fire for making this data available, calling into question whether the site and its creators should be considered an actual journalistic endeavor.

On a related note, the Times announced Wednesday that it is publishing its first e-book. The subject? WikiLeaks.

The e-book, titled "Open Secrets: WikiLeaks, War and American Diplomacy," will be available on January 31 through major booksellers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google's bookstore, and Apple's bookstore. A preview will be available online and via the New York Times magazine on January 30.

The e-book will includes expanded profiles of Julian Assange and Bradley Manning, original essays on what the episode has revealed about American diplomacy and government secrecy, analysis from Times correspondents, and opinion essays by Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd, among others.

"The publication of 'Open Secrets' as an e-book is the latest example of the Times exploiting the creative potential of the Web to deliver the world's best journalism in whatever format readers find most appealing," Keller said.Does the New York Times want to be the next WikiLeaks? U.S. Rethinks Strategy for the Unthinkable

Suppose the unthinkable happened, and terrorists struck New York or another big city with an atom bomb. What should people there do? The government has a surprising new message: Do not flee. Get inside any stable building and don’t come out till officials say it’s safe.

The advice is based on recent scientific analyses showing that a nuclear attack is much more survivable if you immediately shield yourself from the lethal radiation that follows a blast, a simple tactic seen as saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Even staying in a car, the studies show, would reduce casualties by more than 50 percent; hunkering down in a basement would be better by far.

But a problem for the Obama administration is how to spread the word without seeming alarmist about a subject that few politicians care to consider, let alone discuss. So officials are proceeding gingerly in a campaign to educate the public.

“We have to get past the mental block that says it’s too terrible to think about,” W. Craig Fugate, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said in an interview. “We have to be ready to deal with it” and help people learn how to “best protect themselves.”

Officials say they are moving aggressively to conduct drills, prepare communication guides and raise awareness among emergency planners of how to educate the public.

Over the years, Washington has sought to prevent nuclear terrorism and limit its harm, mainly by governmental means. It has spent tens of billions of dollars on everything from intelligence and securing nuclear materials to equipping local authorities with radiation detectors.

The new wave is citizen preparedness. For people who survive the initial blast, the main advice is to fight the impulse to run and instead seek shelter from lethal radioactivity. Even a few hours of protection, officials say, can greatly increase survival rates.

The NYT: What Passes for Journalism in Paper of Record

Overall, America's major media fails the test. It's biased, shameless, and irresponsible with "everything to sell and nothing to tell" as a noted US media critic once said. It delivers a daily diet of "managed news" (propaganda), infotainment, and "junk food news," a worthless mix, treating people like mushrooms - well-watered, in the dark, and uninformed about what matters most. No wonder greater numbers opt out, consuming less broadcast "news" and print media, the kind no one should waste time or money on.

No paper has more clout than The New York Times. Media critic Norman Solomon once called its front page "the most valuable square inches of media real estate in the USA" - in fact, anywhere because its reports circulate globally.

In his April 1998 article titled, "All the News Fit to Print (Part I): Structure and Background of the New York Times," Edward Herman called The Times "an establishment newspaper," serving wealth and power interests, a record dating from 1896 when the Ochs-Sulzberger family took control. Its agenda "persist(s) to this day" as two earlier articles explained, accessed through the following links here and here.

For many decades The Times has had the lead role distorting, censoring, and suppressing truth, a shameful record:

- supporting the powerful;

- backing corporate interests;

- endorsing imperial wars;

- ducking major issues like government and corporate lawlessness and corruption, sham elections, democracy for the select few alone, an unprecedented wealth gap, and eroding civil liberties and social benefits; and

- supporting Pentagon and CIA efforts to topple elected governments, assassinate independent leaders, prop up friendly dictators, secretly fund and train paramilitary death squads, practice sophisticated forms of torture, and menace democratic freedoms at home and abroad.
