Racists, Homophobes and God. Oh My!
It’s been a difficult week in keeping up the howl. I had to step back and look for the bigger picture. And I am still looking for it and not sure I can find it right now.
Maybe, in some ways, I still tend to be a little naive. Yet, I find some comfort in the fact that I taught my children well.
I’ve always been open with my children about gays and lesbians. I taught them from a young age what it meant to be gay and that we should all accept one another. But as time went forward well, I guess you could say, so far, only I have stepped forward with a in site that only the dyslectic mind would dare to investigate of why the two different attacks and why the Bible Thumping as if all Muslims are guilty of the single thought of the few.

Many people responded to our last request to send messages to the Dean of the University California Davis Medical School concerning Dr. Scott Fishman and his close affiliation with the legal drug cartels in our country. The University of Davis Health System issued a public response.

This statement comes after our collective request to the University of California to publicly make a statement concerning Dr. Fishman for being the past President of the American Pain Foundation who received 88% of their funding last year from the legal narcotic manufacturers http://www.propublica.org/article/the-champion-of-painkillers (including the maker of OxyContin-Purdue Pharma).
Fishman also apparently has a close affiliation with our United States Surgeon General, Regina Benjamin. Santorum: Obama wants constitutional amendment to redistribute wealth

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum suggested on Friday that President Barack Obama wanted a constitutional amendment to force the redistribution of wealth.
Wearing his infamous sweater vest, the candidate told a group of supporters in Rock Hill, South Carolina that Obama wanted to “manage the decline of America.”
“Remember the president of the United States saying when he was running for office earlier in his career, he was asked the question as a constitutional law professor, what change he would make, what deficiency there was in the Constitution?” Santorum explained. “His answer was there should be a provision for the redistribution of wealth.”
The former Pennsylvania senator may have been misremembering an often misinterpreted statement that Obama made to WBEZ-FM back in 2001.
“If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement, and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples,” the then-state senator said. “But the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society. And to that extent, as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical.”
Expecting an attack from Republican nominee John McCain’s campaign in 2008, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton preemptively responded.
“Obama was talking about the civil rights movement — and the kind of work that has to be done on the ground to make sure that everyone can live out the promise of equality,” Burton said. “In the interview, Obama went into extensive detail to explain why the courts should not get into that business of ‘redistributing’ wealth. Obama’s point — and what he called a tragedy — was that legal victories in the civil rights led too many people to rely on the courts to change society for the better.”
Santorum also highlighted remarks the president made at George Washington University last year, where he said that “we would not be a great country” without programs like Social Security and Medicare.
“You see, I don’t believe that,” Santorum continued. “I believe America was born great. … What makes the saying on the Great Seal — e pluribus unum — true? Out of many one, what is the one? It is that, that we are a people who are children of God.”
“We are seen as equal. I mean, the idea that all men are created equal, that was unheard of. Women created equal to men? No way! What society did that exist? Rights? Equal? No way. Why was that? Because we are children of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And we were all made in His image.”
Santorum’s assertion that the U.S. was “born great” with equality for all men and women does not exactly square with the history books.
African Americans were not considered full citizens until 1865, when the Thirteenth Amendment rendered the three-fifths compromise moot. Women were not guaranteed the right to vote until the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified in 1920.
Many would say that the Constitution is still far from perfect. The Equal Rights Amendment was approved by Congress, but was never ratified by the states by the 1982 deadline. The Constitution also does not prevent discrimination against LGBT people.

If Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s latest stump speech is successful, his opponents will find themselves campaigning against Christ.
Speaking to a tea party group at Windham High School in New Hampshire on Thursday, the former Pennsylvania senator actually compared himself to the Christian savior.
Santorum told the crowd that during a radio interview earlier in the week, a man had phoned in to tell him, “We don’t need a Jesus candidate; we need an economic candidate.”
“My answer to that was, we always need a Jesus candidate,” Santorum, who is a Catholic, recalled.
“I don’t mean that in saying we need a Jesus candidate, someone who’s a Christian, but we need someone who believes in something more than themselves, some higher power, some god,” he added. “When we say, ‘God bless America,’ do we mean it or do we just say it?”

Romney's Bain past continues to haunt him. ~msnbc.com

For Mitt Romney, his association with The Bain Capital Investment Group has become the bane of his candidacy. His recent claims of having a history of job creation in the private sector are under a deluge of attacks by the people whose jobs he ended. He and his cohorts did in fact save some jobs. However, they did so by gutting the companies they took over and out sourcing the labor over seas.
The link above shows a great interview aired on MSNBC's The Ed Show. In the clip the host ( Ed Schultz ) provides a former employee, of one of the companies Romney took over, an opportunity to explain how effective candidate Romney was at keeping and creating jobs. It is disturbing how politicians will try to Spin stories like this to claim how the things they did out of corporatist greed are examples of their leadership proficiency.

I feel that far too often it is the focus of the "Upwardly Mobie" to look to find the "loopholes" or "back-doors" through which they may slither as they attempt to get over on "the system". In their efforts to amass wealth, they seek only the "Ends", free from concern over the "Means".
Those who strive only to get over, that are never content to get by, are amounst the most abhorrent of greed consumed people.
It saddens me to think, that we have regressed to a society so compelled by the bottom line, that integrity is construde as a weakness rather than a virtue.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that being driven to succeed or having aspirations of greatness are not admirable qualities. I just find them to be despicable obsessions.
As a child, I was taught, that the meter by which Greatness is truly meassured, is not by what you've done for the betterment of yourself, rather, by what have you done for the betterment of society.
Furthermore, while I'm not so naive as to think greed and corruption are exclusive only to conservatives, I do feel that Republican ideals are far more sympathetic to the plight of the Greediest and most corrupt business practices. I guess I just find it ironic how the so called "religious right" are so adamantly opposed to all the teachings of their God... Jesus Christ.. If I'm not mistaken he was all about "help thy Brother".
Anyhow, on that note, I'll leave you with this:

An interview with GOD? (part 1)
This is the transcript of a September interview that took place between journalist Wesley Ericson of “Why?” magazine and God. It is the only known interview with God that seems to exist.
Wesley: First and foremost I appreciate you taking the time out of your schedule to sit with me and allow us access for the magazine.
God: No problem.
Wesley: I think people are pretty anxious to hear some of your thoughts on more than a few subjects, so if you don’t mind I’m just gonna jump right in.
God: Please do.
Wesley: Why now? It seems that you could have done this interview at any time either past or future.
God: I am actually giving this interview beyond the confines of time. It’s a one off that will be experienced in past, present and future.
Wesley: So there is nothing special about this specific time in history?
God: No, not particularly. I mean, I’m sure it feels special to you.
Wesley: I’m comforted to know there is a future, there’s lots of speculation about the end. Can you clarify things for us?
God: I just read an article that was saying that people enjoy books and stories more when they know the end. That it allows them the freedom to enjoy the story without the anxiety of what will happen if they know ultimately where it’s going.
Wesley: So, you’ll tell us.
God: No. The article is wrong. The study happened to be performed on neurotic control freaks. In essence I would be feeding a negative neurotic behavior by letting people know the end. But you know how it ends.
Wesley: We die?
God: Of course it isn’t that simple. By dying you live forever.
Wesley: How does that work?
God: You are eternal. Life is eternal, but it isn’t permanent. It’s a regenerative process.
Wesley: You mean I die and am reborn?
God: You die and you are transferred into something else that lives. Thus you’re part of the eternal flow. Which reminds me, I don’t know why you’ve decided to be buried in boxes. The whole point is that your death creates life as it decays.
Wesley: We thought you wanted us whole.
God: Why would I want you at all? Where would I put you all?
Wesley: In the infinite space of heaven?
God: (Chuckling) Well, that’s one way to think.
Wesley: That’s wrong?
God: You are part of the delicate balance that is life. You can not be removed from it, nor should you want to be.
Wesley: No heaven when we die?
God: Sure. You get to be part of the cycle forever free of physical constraints and limitations. Is that not a heavenly thought?
Wesley: We’ve been promised riches and comfort and streets paved in gold and every desire fulfilled.
God: Really? That sounds pretty shallow.
Wesley: I guess it does.
God: There is no you when you die, anyway, so that shouldn’t be a concern.
Wesley: No soul?
God: You are only what you think yourself to be. It’s the ego that controls your sense of you. When you die so does your sense of individuality. You become a billion little individuals. When I came up with this premise I was really stoned so it’s hard for me now to explain. Plus your language doesn’t really have the words to express the idea properly.
Wesley: A billion individuals?
God: You lose YOUR sense of self, created by the ego. What you are is a group of particles that form your whole being. The way that you are an individual part of a larger group that also has its own identity. So, you can be operating without the knowledge of the group but you are still part of the group.
Wesley: So there are conscious parts of me that I don’t know are existing?
God: Of course. Every particle is conscious on its own.
Wesley: You must be aware that these explanations seem to fly in the face of religious groups that believe in you the most.
God: The most? Again, that is a function of an ill ego. This is the simplest way I can put it. Anything that serves to separate is wrong. The idea is connection not separation. If you do something the “most” that is separating yourself from others. It’s also pretty clearly rooted to some insecurity that usually has nothing to do with me.
Wesley: Would you say that religions serve no purpose?
God: Of course they serve a purpose. Everything serves a purpose. Just breathing serves purpose. A tree in the wind is serving a purpose. The purpose they are serving should be questioned maybe.
Wesley: Maybe this interview will change some behaviors.
God: I doubt it.
Wesley: What should we be doing? Is there a specific thing we should be doing? With this time.
God: Your purpose is just to die so that life can continue forever.
Wesley: I don’t think people will like that answer.
God: Some people will never be satisfied. That’s part of this condition.
Wesley: Condition?
God: Life.
Wesley: You mentioned earlier that you were stoned. Is that something that happens a lot? I think that will be a big surprise to our readers.
God: It’s something that I do in phases. I’ve had some phases where I can become pretty habitual and other times I won’t touch it for awhile.
Wesley: What are we talking about? Marijuana? Alcohol? What’s your preference?
God: It’s really anything that can alter my reality. I can become very obsessive at times and it seems to help me see things in a different light.
Wesley: I’m sorry. I’m a bit shocked by that. I assumed you would be all knowing and can see things in every reality.
God: I can. Through drugs.
Wesley: Can we then, too?
God: Sure.
Wesley: Why is it illegal?
God: You have to ask your leaders.
Wesley: But aren’t you the ultimate leader?
God: Those guys don’t listen to me. They have their agendas and I don’t quite match up with them.
Wesley: Can you be more specific? Especially because a lot of these guys come to power based on the fact that they believe in you.
God: I’m not going to throw stones. But as I said previously, anytime there is a division or separation you can assume that I have nothing to do with it nor endorse it.
Wesley: Then it seems to me that you aren’t in control here?
God: I just created it. But I created it as something that I am a part of, not in control of. I control my actions. I don’t want to control your actions. Then what would you be for?
Wesley: Can you tell us what you think of the current state of things?
God: (laughing) In general?
Wesley: There seems to be a lot of uncertainty and fear in the air. Should there be?
God: No.
Wesley: Can you elaborate?
God: All the fear is manufactured. The future is always uncertain. It should be for you. Because I created this there are certain laws that apply to everything. I didn’t necessarily mean to implement these laws but because everything is designed to die and regenerate so too are the ideas that you create. Economic systems, political systems, anything that comes to fruition is destined to eat itself and collapse so that a new thing can form. It keeps things interesting and in constant motion. And this fear seems to be from a lack of knowledge of these principles.
Wesley: Adapt or die?
God: Well, you’re gonna die.
Wesley: I mean…
God: I know what you mean. I was just kidding. Yes. There will never be anything that lasts forever. Not even me. I disappear when you do.

When I came up with this premise I was really stoned so it’s hard for me now to explain. Plus your language doesn’t really have the words to express the idea properly.
Wesley: A billion individuals?
God: You lose YOUR sense of self, created by the ego. What you are is a group of particles that form your whole being. The way that you are an individual part of a larger group that also has its own identity. So, you can be operating without the knowledge of the group but you are still part of the group.
Wesley: So there are conscious parts of me that I don’t know are existing?
God: Of course. Every particle is conscious on its own.
Wesley: You must be aware that these explanations seem to fly in the face of religious groups that believe in you the most.
God: The most? Again, that is a function of an ill ego. This is the simplest way I can put it. Anything that serves to separate is wrong. The idea is connection not separation. If you do something the “most” that is separating yourself from others. It’s also pretty clearly rooted to some insecurity that usually has nothing to do with me.
Wesley: Would you say that religions serve no purpose?
God: Of course they serve a purpose. Everything serves a purpose. Just breathing serves purpose. A tree in the wind is serving a purpose. The purpose they are serving should be questioned maybe.
Wesley: Maybe this interview will change some behaviors.
God: I doubt it.
Wesley: What should we be doing? Is there a specific thing we should be doing? With this time.
God: Your purpose is just to die so that life can continue forever.
Wesley: I don’t think people will like that answer.
God: Some people will never be satisfied. That’s part of this condition.
Wesley: Condition?
God: Life.
Wesley: You mentioned earlier that you were stoned. Is that something that happens a lot? I think that will be a big surprise to our readers.
God: It’s something that I do in phases. I’ve had some phases where I can become pretty habitual and other times I won’t touch it for awhile.
Wesley: What are we talking about? Marijuana? Alcohol? What’s your preference?
God: It’s really anything that can alter my reality. I can become very obsessive at times and it seems to help me see things in a different light.
Wesley: I’m sorry. I’m a bit shocked by that. I assumed you would be all knowing and can see things in every reality.
God: I can. Through drugs.
Wesley: Can we then, too?
God: Sure.
Wesley: Why is it illegal?
God: You have to ask your leaders.
Wesley: But aren’t you the ultimate leader?
God: Those guys don’t listen to me. They have their agendas and I don’t quite match up with them.
Wesley: Can you be more specific? Especially because a lot of these guys come to power based on the fact that they believe in you.
God: I’m not going to throw stones. But as I said previously, anytime there is a division or separation you can assume that I have nothing to do with it nor endorse it.
Wesley: Then it seems to me that you aren’t in control here?
God: I just created it. But I created it as something that I am a part of, not in control of. I control my actions. I don’t want to control your actions. Then what would you be for?
Wesley: Can you tell us what you think of the current state of things?
God: (laughing) In general?
Wesley: There seems to be a lot of uncertainty and fear in the air. Should there be?
God: No.
Wesley: Can you elaborate?
God: All the fear is manufactured. The future is always uncertain. It should be for you. Because I created this there are certain laws that apply to everything. I didn’t necessarily mean to implement these laws but because everything is designed to die and regenerate so too are the ideas that you create. Economic systems, political systems, anything that comes to fruition is destined to eat itself and collapse so that a new thing can form. It keeps things interesting and in constant motion. And this fear seems to be from a lack of knowledge of these principles.
Wesley: Adapt or die?
God: Well, you’re gonna die.
Wesley: I mean…
God: I know what you mean. I was just kidding. Yes. There will never be anything that lasts forever. Not even me. I disappear when you do.
Wesley: Because without us you serve no function.
God: Exactly. I’m just part of it.

Facebook: They're Screwing EVERYBODY!
One of the comforts to be found in my little struggle with Facebook, if comfort there be, is that I am not alone. Facebook is and has been doing the same thing to other innocent people who complain about the gigglers, the spammers, the idiots as they've done to me. I have to figure that Facebook is merely catering to its audience. Gigglers, spammers and idiots are the people who purchase the products Facebook advertises. Can't block THOSE customers! Party People! You Win Some, You Lose Some: Headaches vs. Mistake Babies
This week has been an uneven one for those who like to party first and deal with party related consequences eventually. We at Van Full of Candy are known to be fans of both “Party” and “Consequences”. The first is fun, the second is hilarious and the combination of the two is often hilariously fun. That is, as long as those hilarious consequences of party are being felt by others. The amount of fun and hilarity one experiences as a result of party consequences is in direct relation to exactly how much it effects you personally. Party Fact.
First, Wednesday, Party People who like to put their Party Parts in the parts of other Party People got the bad news that the Plan B Party Pill was going to have to stay behind the pharmacy counter. The FDA had ruled that anybody who had $50 and a need to unhappen a late night baby could pick up the pill in their local anywhere without having to let the Pharmacist know how much they like to Party. But “Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius”, thinking of course, of the children, decided that it was best to avoid the impulse buy madness that allowing just anyone to toss a couple de-preggers in your basket would most certainly cause, you know, because it’s best to stock up for those times when you just don’t want to pull on one of those Pesky Pecker Party Ponchos.
I can naturally understand the Human Services Lady’s point of view. Sebelius’ concern was apparently that “girls as young as 11 are physically capable of bearing children and Plan B’s makers didn’t prove that younger girls could properly understand how to use this product without guidance from an adult”. Completely fair and rational and understandable. Eleven year olds like to party. Party Fact. Also a fact, all over the counter drugs that can be harmful to children without proper guidance from an adult must be proven to be properly understandable to eleven year old girls before it can be sold to the public. Never mind that the use of this product, a pill, is covered by one of humanities most basic function, the “forward swallow”, or that said pill can in no way do any sort of damage what so ever to a tween whether taken properly or improperly (unless I guess, ingested into the brain stem through a child’s blow hole perhaps), the fact that the product does not explicitly explain that fact is apparently tragically unsafe and worthy of keeping it off of shelves.
Party People 17 and older that want to exterminate impending womb vermin can still do so without prescription, as before, by simply telling the “doctor” behind the counter that she had a party in her pelvis and everyone was invited. Those under 17 will continue to need a prescription from their local clinic. Don’t mind the van parked outside with pictures of inside out fetus parts or all of the lovers of invisible sky persons calling you a whore, they’re just there to make sure you don’t let the next guy get away with saying that he can’t feel anything when stuffed in his Party Prophylactic. And hey, don’t worry if the doctor calls to inform your parents that you’ve just picked up a life unruiner pill, if one of ‘em’s the reason you’re there, they’ll probably love to hear the news!
But fret not lovers of all things party! The FDA, yes, the same FDA that tried to let you decide for yourself whether or not you knew how to operate a pill properly, just today approved a drinky don’t hurt disk for mass consumption following a night of massive consumption. “Blowfish” an “Alka-Seltzer like tablet” is a hangover cure on its way to a non Plan B stocked store shelf near you!
No longer will you have to pay for your night of heavy drinking with head aches and tummy aches and mysterious muscle strains and bruises that you can not explain and continuously tell your friends not to explain. With its (not at all) patented combination of 1,000 milligrams of Aspirin, 120 milligrams of caffeine and an unspecified (in the article that I found this information at least, and I’ve used up all of my research coupons for the year) quantity of antacid, “Blowfish” is set to take a prominent place in Van Full of Candy’s Party Purse, which is actually a medicine bag that we bought at a gas station inside an Indian reservation that we were assured was not only blessed by the tribe’s shaman, but was very masculine and didn’t at all look weird for us to be wearing. This’ll fit in quite nicely with our embarassingly purchased Plan B pills and notarized consent forms. With a name like “Van Full of Candy” written authorization to consensually violate another human being sets a lot of minds at ease.
Now the “Blowfish” product didn’t actually NEED to be approved by the FDA since it’s “composed of ingredients already aveilable for over the counter sales”, but instead needed approval of its packaging.
“Like all drug packaging, it has a lot of warnings for people with certain conditions,” Brenna Haysom, creator of Blowfish said. “And pregnant women should not take it, but hopefully they don’t need to be taking it!”
An excellent point. Women who are pregnant shouldn’t take a fizzy pill with a cup of coffee’s worth of caffeine, because that would be bad. Oh, and naturally, as Brenna so wryly points out, tongue planted firmly in drunken cheek, pregnant women shouldn’t be NEEDING to take the product in the first place since it’s a hang over cure and as most Party Preggos know, they shouldn’t be drinking beer. It’ll make the baby too fun and charismatic.Party Fact.
So Party People, get out there and have a good time knowing that the consequences that need the most urgent attending to are covered. If bright lights and loud noises make your head an itty bitty bit ouchy, the FDA approved product that can help you will soon be at the 7-11 register next to the energy shots and scratchers. But if you get pregnant inadvertently or against your will, the FDA approved product that can help you will still be un-readily available to you because, you know, God.
