While the wheels on the Wagon Queen Family Truckster are still in motion with regards to a brand new Vacation film as told through the eyes of Clark Griswold's son Rusty and his family (which New Line is currently working on alongside David Dobkin), the original Clark and Ellen Griswold (Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, respectively) will be making a return appearance this February on the small screen as part of a Superbowl commercial for HomeAway vacation rentals .
Mildly disappointing news that Larry Fessenden (Habit, The Last Winter) is likely off of The Orphanage remake as a director.
Produced, once again by Guillermo Del Toro, the Orphanage is best known for being super creepy and an awesome horror film. The U.S. remake would've been much more so if Fessenden was still working on. Alas.
Richard Linklater's latest project, Liars (A to E) seemed to be safe. It had Kat Dennings and Rebecca Hall cast; it seemed to be ready to go.
And you undoubtedly are noticing I'm using the past tense. Check out what Linklater said to Movieline and the first thing coming to mind when unemployment rears its' ugly head (i.e. "sequel")

You know that OLDBOY remake…well it wasn’t really a remake, anyway (which is a terrible idea by the way) Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were suppose to do a film that was based on the Japanese manga by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya and NOT FROM THE ORIGINAL FILM.
At the time DreamWorks was in the process of securing the rights along with MANDATE, until NOW.
Mobile, Alabama based independent filmmaking group Fighting Owl Films is set to produce an independent feature in the city utilizing local talent. The feature, titled “The Night Shift”, is based on Fighting Owl Films' short film of the same name which proved an online hit, was positively reviewed in "Fangoria" magazine's online edition earlier in 2009 and has screened in several festivals across the United States.
A supernatural adventure-comedy, “The Night Shift” centers on Rue Morgan, the undead night watchman at Pinewood Oaks Cemetery. Rue, along with his buddy Herb, a limbless corpse, spends his nights trying to keep the cemetery’s cantankerous residents in, and his days dreaming of a date with hard-nosed day-shifter, Claire. It’s an okay afterlife until a scourge of supernatural occurrences leave Rue not only watching the cemetery, but also watching his back!
The short film’s positive reception coupled with the disillusionment with Hollywood’s current output of remakes and reboots encouraged the filmmakers to pursue their dream of turning the original “The Night Shift” into a feature length adventure film. Thomas Smith, the film’s writer/director and co-producer, is hoping to recapture some of the cinematic magic of the 80s Amblin films he grew up with that had a lasting influence.
“Growing up as a child of the 80s, the world depicted on film had a completely different atmosphere,” Smith says. “The films possessed a graininess and lived-in look that added an extra dimension of realism. There also seemed to be a greater emphasis on character and storytelling and less of the headache-inducing flash and sensory overload that’s become so commonplace today. It was the era of ‘Gremlins’, ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Indiana Jones’, films everyone could enjoy, not just children or adult audiences. That’s what we’re hoping to recapture with ‘The Night Shift’.”
The independent feature has secured its cast. Returning from the short to reprise their roles of Rue Morgan, Claire Rennfield and Herbie West are Khristian Fulmer, Erin Lilley and Soren Odom, respectively. New additions to the cast include Andrew Crider as Adramalech, the villainous vengence demon with an affinity for western wear, Jordan Woodall as Curly and Jonathan Pruitt as the mysterious Captain Roderick Blake. The film, currently in pre-production, is expected to begin shooting in May 2010.
We all knew Avatar was expensive, but maybe what we didn’t know was just how expensive. Well this is surprising. If you were to ask me which actor in Hollywood would be perfect as a tough-as-nails mercenary who has to battle the relentlessly badass Predators, my answer would be … Adrien Brody? Say what?
That’s the word from Variety, which says that Brody has been cast as a “heroic mercenary who battles alien hunters” in the Robert Rodriguez-written and -produced “Predators”, which is set to go into production very soon under the direction of Nimrod Antal.
And not just Brody in the lead, too. Variety also reveals other casting news:
Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Louiz Ozawa will round out the seven badass human warriors who will be going up against the uber Predators on their home planet.
If this script review proves accurate, then Braga (”I am Legend”) will most likely be playing a female French sniper named Isabelle; Rodriguez bud Trejo is already known to be playing the Mexican gangster Cuchillo; African-American actor Mahershalalhashbaz Ali will be playing Mombasa, a member of an African death squad; the Russian Oleg Taktarov will be playing the Russian Nikolai; and Ozawa, a Japanese actor, would be logical as the sword-slinging Yakuza character Hanzo.

Four posters for the movie "Kick-Ass" was unveiled. Due to hit cinemas in the US in April, these four featuring the casts backs, combined into one big image.
"...rest assured, purists. Black says his script is not a modern reimagining of the character, but a classic pulp story set in the 30s.
With such a superstar team at the helm, it wouldn't be surprising if the project gets off the ground this time. Heck, it's likely to get the fast track treatment. Hopefully, we'll get some kind of director announcement soon".~y2009m10d25-... more

Federal Judge Dale Fischer on Monday denied a request for an injunction to block the release of Chris Rock’s documentary “Good Hair.”
Plaintiff Regina Kimbell is seeking to block the film's release as part of a $5 million copyright infringement lawsuit she filed Oct. 5 in U.S. District Court in downtown Los Angeles.
“We always knew that it would be tough getting the judge to grant a request for a preliminary injunction. We are looking forward to going to trial,” said Kimbell’s attorney, Reginald K. Brown. From The Wrap:

In an interview with the NY Times, on the eve of the release of "New York, I Love You" (which is predictably mediocre like most omnibus films) producer Emmanuel Benbihy has revealed that anthology projects set in Shanghai, Rio de Janiero and Jerusalem are already in the works. According to /Film, "Shanghai, I Love You" will be up next to coincide with the 2010 World Expo, with Jerusalem to follow in 2011 or 2012. Over at the Hollywood Reporter, they elaborate a little more saying both Shanghai and Rio will be shooting next year, with Jerusalem to follow a little a later on so perhaps that info is a little out of date now.In an interview with the NY Times, on the eve of the release of "New York, I Love You"... more
