Set up your computer to read your email aloud with a text-to-speech app, and you've got a book on tape of sorts. A very creepy, lifeless book on tape.

Even though it was first published in 1918, The Elements of Style, by William Strunk, Jr., still is considered by many to be the bedrock upon which all proper writing is created. The fine folks at bartleby.com, a great resource for all of you writers out there, have it on their site--for free. It's short, sweet, and to the point, like all good writing.
Still, the number one rule in my book is to write in a way that will make sense to your audience. Clarity trumps the rules. Take Winston Churchill's legendary response to being called out for ending a sentence with a preposition. As one version goes, he wrote, "This is the sort of English up with which I will not put."
