It's that time of the year again when every music or lifestyle brand and blogger delve into their record collections and draw up their definitive list of the year's best music.
First off the blocks is The Guardian, proclaiming LCD Soundsystem's 'Sound Of Silver' as their album of 2007.
Off the top of my head, my own list would be something like:
1. Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
2. In Rainbows by Radiohead
3. Because of the Times by Kings Of Leon
4. Spiderman Of The Rings by Dan Deacon
5. Graduation by Kanye West
6. Wincing The Night Away - The Shins
7. Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
8. Version by Mark Ronson
9. Hvarf - Heim by Sigur Ros
10. The Reminder by Feist

The words Iran and Nuclear seem to go hand in hand in this current catastrophic environment, but don't let the words bring the wrong connotations to mind. Iran has tried to make it abundantly clear over the last four years that it's desire for Nuclear technology is solely a desire for Nuclear Energy and not weaponry.
The news that Russia have now completed a delivery of enriched Uranium to Iran seems to demonstrate that the support for the opposition of Iran's Nuclear program is diminishing. With the US and Russia at a stalemate over the European missiles, and now this Nuclear debacle, what does the future hold for Russian and American relations?
Also check out this related thread on Iran's non existent nuclear weapons program.

Apparently there is a notorious radio ham that taunts shipping in the Persian gulf. Usually he(or them) scream insults at shipping over the radio and do funny voices under the call sign "Filipino Monkey". Sounds hilarious. Like Channel 4's phone jacker but with international security implications.
On this occasion it has been suggested he pretended to be the Iranian patrol boats in international waters and said over the radio that they would explode. Needless to say the alarmed US navy ships came very close to firing on the tiny Iranian boats in front of them.
This could explain why there are such different US and Iranian versions of events both supported by video evidence. It could also be a convenient way for both sides to climb down and blame a third party whilst both saving face to cool the escalating tension between them.Apparently there is a notorious radio ham that taunts shipping in the Persian gulf.... more

This subject is one that hits many nerves and provokes some passionate questions, for instance: WHY? What makes someone want to blow themselves up on a busy street corner? For many of us living outside the radical Islam faith, it's easy for us to place the blame on brainwashing by hate-mongering fanatics. But perhaps, according to this columnist, it's not that simple. Perhaps we need to look deeper into the lives and minds of the young people who turn to radicalisation and later violence to answer the question.
"Recruiters are not 'the preachers of hate' but older brothers, respected peers, charismatic strong characters. Many militants are 'self-starters', not brainwashed recruits. The images that bombard us all are important - not just clever propaganda. Yes, frustration, alienation, a sense of injustice, a search for adventure, a need for recognition is all important but so are 'small group dynamics', who you happen to meet and when. Increasing isolation within the group is essential for the progressive dehumanisation of 'the enemy' and the hardening and maintenance of psychological readiness to die 'for the cause'."This subject is one that hits many nerves and provokes some passionate questions, for... more

Marina Hyde of the Guardian raises an interesting point about how sex is being percieved and understood in a "post porn" world. Pornography is so readily available that its relationship to sexual activity has been compared to the link between fast food chains and obesity.
Marina argues that pornography is shaping peoples expectations of what sex should be and for that reason it is the driving force in our supposed sexual liberation. In a strange way I see this concept being related to the end of Rome only our societies sexual endeavors have all been captured on film and broadcast to the world en masse.
