I trust you do not believe we are simply going to stop annoying you. Because it's not going to happen. We are El Ka Bong and you are the fans we need.
Folks who watch Current are informed, creative, and intelligent. You are the people that are going to make a difference in the next generation, and we are the musicians who will provide you with the entertainment you need.
Why is music in such a rut?
Its not. People have merely turned off Mtv, Vh1, and even Fuse because its all corporate schaplooey. SuperNews even addressed this. Mtv is sick and dying, and they want you to think music is dying too!!
Dont be fooled by reality shows. Watch Current. Listen to us. Get us on Current so you don't have to do seperate things.
We've been talking about writing to you for a while now, but only recently gathered the chutzpah to sit down and do it. We're all big big fans of Current, and we love how you're incorporating viewers into the shows! Revolutionary!!
Well, getting to the point... we are a band called "El Ka Bong" (based on the Hanna Barbera cartoon, but also an excuse to get people to say bong more often) and we would love for you to check out our music and possibly use it for one of your shows or promos. We're all in our early 20s from Upstate NY and we play a wide variety of music ranging from reggae, latin, rock and jazz to free improvisation drum circle jams, soul, R&B, and funk. We've played with big recording acts such as Donna the Buffalo, John Brown's Body, Umphrey's McGee, Mambo Kings, and Ra Ra Riot and have several festival dates lined up for the summer.
We have recently released our first full length album, and are willing to send one to you free of charge if you are interested. Please forward this message to anyone who may be interested in expanding their mind with a fresh new take on the music scene.
We promise you haven't heard anything like this before. Hope to hear from you!!

The Wrote & The Writ came out flying along a sidewalk full of cars and bumps and dark shadows. The one song we wondered if it was even worth trying for. I think it came out as a favorite. That dangling shadow and guitar. The little Scottish jig. The look of where the hell are we and where are we going.

La Blogotheque are a series of short videos that showcase musical acts performing in what sometimes are uncomfortable places - Arcade Fire in a elevator and Fleet Foxes in an old abandoned building for example.
They're beautifully shot and brilliant to watch and, for me, they've just got even better. Sigur Ros have recorded one and although I wish the cameraman had zoomed out a bit, it's gorgeously intimate and sounds fantastic.La Blogotheque are a series of short videos that showcase musical acts performing in... more
Look at Seasick Steve’s blues, that old man in a vest, listen to his story coming out of his long white beard. When this American dude landed in Paris in the 70s with $10 in his pocket, it was nights under bridges, police vans, women, alcohol, and always his guitar and his blues who saved his life..Look at Seasick Steve’s blues, that old man in a vest, listen to his story coming... more
Current Music Presents La Blogotheque -- the best bands, the strangest locations, and just one take to get it right. On the streets of San Francisco, the Dodos come across a guy playing his accordion on the sidewalk and ask him to join in, completely unplanned and unrehearsed. They later perform on the steps of Macy's in Union Square. Grand Archives plays in the back of their van on the side of the road. This is the first video of a partnership where Current TV will air exclusive Take Away Shows from La Blogotheque.
La Blogotheque founder Chryde descripes the shooting of the video:
It was in February, before their album was out, before they were praised by Pitchfork and others (including us). They had long hair, they were smiling, living in a van hippie-style, and they waited for Nate Chan and me on the parking lot of a McDonald’s, in an area of San Francisco hamming the flower power nostalgia. Pecknold was excited just like a kid after he found an abandoned gymnasium in a street behind. They played in the grass, hummed while walking. It was the before-the-success band. Carefree, unpressured, no heavy recognition.
