"Listen Beyonce, I'm a let you finish.. You had one of the best videos of all time. But at least Taylor Swift writes all of the songs that she claims to write.."
I have always been a fan of Destiny's Child and the solo pieces from each of the remaining three members. It has been a beautiful thing to watch over the last decade. I love watching people Horatio Alger their way to success. It is the American Dream. I enjoy watching others achieve it while I am still on my way up. But I have definitely also been a hater of Beyonce, the person. She has great media training but there is something about 'the real her' that 'really' annoys me. That aside, I have never been able to deny that she is a very talented young woman. She has a beautiful voice and her songwriting credits are extensive. So I'm a lover and a hater.
Now, let us find out that SonyBMG has been involved in some old-fashioned corporate thuggery, hacking an indie artists computer and stealing music and video treatments from independent artists and passing the content on to artists signed to the major label. Madonna and Beyonce are two of the biggest players in the music industry and have been involved with this type of claim this entire decade, although major media outlets have barely reported on the matter. I knew that there was something funny about Beyonce and I feel like my intense hate has been vindicated. She and her former-manager/father, Matthew Knowles, have been taking a lot of credit for the hard work of others in the music industry. They have been wildly successful, that is for certain. But as with all major wealth, to acquire the multi-million dollar fortunes the old saying goes: "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'."

I understand artistic license and being inspired by another artist, etc. The problem lies when one passes the ideas on as their own without giving proper credit where it is due. Knowles has 'forgotten' to pay the Wilhwlmina Artist Management $88,000 for brokering her $900,000 L'Oreal contract in April 2001. Knowles and family gave Greg Walker of Icon Entertainment the slip to the tune of $25,000 for his services rendered in brokering the $15,000,000 fashion deal for the House of Dereon in 2004. She has publicly claimed to have written "Crazy in Love" and "Irreplaceable," though they were actually written by their respective producers Greg Harrison and Ne-yo. Fans may also be saddened to hear of the ongoing litigation involving such hits as "Survivor", "Baby Boy", and "Independent Women." It should be noted that Beyonce fired her father from her manager position back in 2007 and Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland followed suit in January 2009. Millions of dollars in royalties are deserving of the plaintiffs, independent artists doing just that: creating art. But decide for yourself.
Blogs and the internets have tried their best to disseminate the message but we all know how easy it is to discredit independent news outlets, especially weblogs."Listen Beyonce, I'm a let you finish.. You had one of the best videos of all time.... more

Iya Dede was born and raised in Rwanda, escaping genocide and war before settling in Belgium. She's made her mark on the Francophone music scene touring with world-renowned Zap Mama and an exhaustive list of European artists of diverse genres. She has toured on numerous stages in Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden, Israel, and now the US. "Talking to God," her anglophone ablum debut is an electric and bold expression of all her experiences, a collision of electropop, punk, alternative, traditional Rwandan music and jazz stylings. The streets are buzzing about this golden girl...

I was able to discover this band checking their live performance in a small venue in LA. They stand out by their independence and take no prisoners approach to their audience with catchy songs and melodies. You might say they are influenced by the northwest music scene like Sleater Kinney, Bikini Kill, L7 and The Gits with a tinge of Elton John playing on a cheap Casio keyboard in the 80's. They have a new album "Thracian". If you want to hear good music, go buy this album and check them out live whenever they are touring this fall.I was able to discover this band checking their live performance in a small venue in... more

Elly Jackson, better known as the red-topped front woman of electro-pop group La Roux, has opened her mouth and inserted her foot. In an interview with the Quietus, she said:
"There's far more ways to be sexy than to dress in a miniskirt and a tank top … I think you attract a certain kind of man by dressing like that. Women wonder why they get beaten up, or have relationships with arsehole men. Because you attracted one, you twat."
This comes as quite a surprise considering she gets so much flack for her appearance. Is she really saying that women are responsible for sexual abuse? She wasn't challenged on her remarks during the interview, but some say what she said is really controversial and an attack on feminism. Would you agree?Elly Jackson, better known as the red-topped front woman of electro-pop group La Roux,... more

The relaunching of the independent charts is, at best, seen as a bit of prolonged publicity. At worst, it is considered a marketing ploy to hype twangly guitar bands pushed by the majors
Great news for indie labels: the Official Charts Company has announced an overhaul of the independent charts, the sub-chart launched in 1978 to celebrate the output of the DIY labels that emerged from the punk movement.
But is it actually great news? Following the Official Charts Company's announcement, some indie labels have responded negatively to the proposals. Under new rules, a download or CD will be eligible for the Official Independent Charts if it is released on a label that is 50% or more owned by an independent company, irrespective of the distribution channel through which it is shipped or delivered.
Allison Schnackenberg of Southern Records, describes the new rules as "an absolute con". The issue is the "50% or more" rule, meaning that labels can receive a significant chunk of major-label funding and still qualify as "indie". "It's turning the independent charts into yet another marketing ploy for major-funded ventures," she says. "They are blurring the lines to the point that the word 'independent' will be meaningless to the general public. One is either independent or not. You can't be 'mostly independent.'"
Schnackenberg cites these new rules as the sort of thing that Umbrella – a voluntary organisation formed in the 1980s by labels Mute, 4AD, Beggars Banquet and Rough Trade – was set up to stop: "fake" indie imprints, established with major label involvement. For her, independence is a straightforward ideological issue. "Independent labels were adamant about the chart not being a "genre" chart, but one that honestly reflected the difference in ownership and the attitude, resources and business models that were part and parcel of that."
Stewart Green, commercial director of 100% independent Beggars Group (who represent XL, Rough Trade, 4AD and Matador) is broadly enthusiastic about the new rules, especially the new Breakers chart, which highlights independent releases by artists that have not previously featured in the top 20. "This will provide a fascinating snapshot of those slow-burners that do not achieve instant success but sell consistently well over a period of time.
Schnackenberg is more critical. "They want to turn 'independent' into some kind of euphemism for 'alternative' – indeed, in some circles, 'indie' already means 'twee twangly guitars' – and make the independent charts some kind of 'beginners chart' for new artists they are trying to bring through their 'farm system' of vanity labels. And I think this is a huge loss. It would be more honest just to eliminate the independent charts altogether, rather than attempting to redefine what the word actually means. Just call it 'the hype chart' and be done with it."The relaunching of the independent charts is, at best, seen as a bit of prolonged... more

Their new album coming out in September, Hot Sauce Committee, features guest artist Nas. I wasn't there but word on the street is that Nas came out during the Beastie Boy's performance at Bonnaroo and everyone freaked out.
Santigold also has a debut on their new album. This is different for the rap trio since they haven't had any artist collaboration since Q- Tip on their 1994 song " Get it Together."

My first thought is he is going to meet up with his BFF Amy Winehouse. They should get together with Courtney Love and start a band called the Hot Mess.
British rocker Pete Doherty was arrested once again after he nodded off in BA plane toilet with his drug needle next to him.
The Mail quoted a plane passenger who said: “He had been in there for about 25 minutes when the announcement came over for the crew to prepare the flight for landing.
“The crew knocked on the door but Pete didn’t come out.
“They eventually managed to get in 10 minutes before the plane landed. Pete was taken back to his seat and he looked completely out of it.
“One of the crew took a needle out of the toilet wrapped in a tissue.”My first thought is he is going to meet up with his BFF Amy Winehouse. They should... more

I love this band so much -- they're one of my favorites to see live, and I'm super excited they're opening for most of No Doubt's summer tour AND have a new album coming out. "No One Sleeps When I'm Awake" and the other tracks off Crossing the Rubicon are somehow even more retro-New Wave than their earlier stuff.I love this band so much -- they're one of my favorites to see live, and I'm super... more
