Like pretty much every other industry during a recession (except maybe the alcohol and fast food sectors), terrestrial radio is seeing record declines in 2008, with the entire industry having its worst year financially since 1954. Revenues are off seven percent from last year’s numbers, and 2008 marks the eighth consecutive struggling year for the industry. To put things in perspective, things haven’t been this bad since the main attraction beaming to antennas was The Lone Ranger and Joseph McCarthy’s hearings against supposed Communists and the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn. Things are somewhat more optimistic in the small markets, where radio has seen their revenues grow by 0.6% over the last 20 months. In the bigger markets, however, the market has lost 4 percent of revenue monthly. One can’t fully blame satellite radio for the downturn, as SiriusXM has its own struggles as its stock currently hovers at the 17 cents mark at press time.Like pretty much every other industry during a recession (except maybe the alcohol and... more

Dr Pepper shouldnt put their Soda where there mouth is
Guns N’ Roses are threatening Dr. Pepper with legal action over what the band calls “a complete fiasco” of a publicity stunt. Dr. Pepper promised every person in America a free can of soda if Guns N’ Roses released Chinese Democracy this year; on November 23rd, the day Democracy was released, fans were told they could get a coupon for a free can at its website. According Axl Rose’s lawyer Alan S. Gutman, things went terribly wrong: Yesterday he sent a letter to Dr. Pepper CEO Larry Young saying that the soda company’s website crashed and that “the redemption scheme your company clumsily implemented for this offer was an unmitigated disaster which defrauded consumers and, in the eyes of vocal fans, ‘ruined’ the day of Chinese Democracy’s release”. The band is seeking a public apology via ads in newspapers, plus more time for people to claim their free soda and monetary damages. The lights on Broadway are not going out, but they will be turning 'green' soon.
The marquees in New York's Broadway Theatre District plan to save energy and the environment, and go a bit more green.
The 'Great White Way' where all the marquees are located, with all the billboard lights, will be the 'Great Green Way' according to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as everyone tries to cut energy bills and lower the city's carbon output.
Already, 10 Broadway theaters have changed 10,000 exterior and interior bulbs to more energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs as part of the initiative organized by the mayor, the Broadway League and the National Resources Defense Council.
Broadway theaters plan to do everything from washing their costumes in cold water to producing and disposing of sets in a more environmentally friendly way to lower the theater industry's carbon footprint, organizers said.
Several characters from Broadway shows made cameo appearances in support of the plan to lower carbon emissions. The lights on Broadway are not going out, but they will be turning 'green'... more

Even Chefs get caught
Gordon Ramsay has made a grovelling apology to wife Tana Ramsay, after admitting to meeting 'mistress' Sarah Symonds four times, it was alleged today.
The television chef was forced to admit to his wife that he does know Symonds, who insists she has been his mistress for seven years.
But he told his wife - who appears to be prepared to stand by him - that they have only met on four occasions.
The couple appeared near their Wandsworth hand-in-hand, in a show of marital solidarity despite the possibility that further lurid revelations will emerge later this week.Even Chefs get caught

Shes making the news again!!
AMY Winehouse says her marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil is kaput, according to Britain's News of the World. The drug-addled singer says her husband left her for a blond German model, Sophie Schandorff. "It's over," the tabloid quoted Winehouse as saying. "There's no way back for us now. It was never going to last. We were only together for sex." And, according to one of her pals, also quoted by the newspaper, it wasn't ordinary sex. "Just like they were with drugs, they pushed themselves to the limit," said the unnamed friend. "They were into threesomes. It was Blake's idea, but Amy said she'd been with women before so it wasn't a problem. And the pair of them were into some real kinky stuff, not just the usual bondage and sex games but really gross stuff you couldn't mention in a newspaper."Shes making the news again!!

NEW YORK – Madonna's marital breakup is tough, but she says she's grateful that her heavy workload "provides a distraction that keeps me going."
"I'm sad about my personal life, but I feel very blessed and very lucky that I have the opportunity to do what I do in my professional life," Madonna told The Associated Press in an interview Sunday. "It would be horrible if I was just thinking about getting a divorce and had nothing to do."
Last week, Madonna and Guy Ritchie were granted a preliminary decree of divorce after eight years of marriage.
Among her current projects is promoting her documentary "I Am Because We Are," which explores the impoverished African nation of Malawi, where more than 1 million children are orphaned by AIDS. Songs today dont compare to the Beatles music of the 60's
Vatican media are praising the Beatles' musical legacy and sounding philosophical about John Lennon's boast that the British band was more popular than Jesus.
Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano recalls that Lennon's comment outraged many when he made it in 1966.
But it says in its Saturday edition that the remark can be written off now as the bragging of a young man wrestling with unexpected success.
The newspaper as well as Vatican Radio last week noted the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' "White Album."
It said the album demonstrated how creative the Beatles were, compared with what it called the "standardized, stereotypical" songs being produced today.Songs today dont compare to the Beatles music of the 60's

- Sarah Palin is juggling offers to write books, appear in films and sit on dozens of interview couches at a rate astonishing for most Hollywood stars, let alone a first-term governor.
Sarah Palin let showbiz go to her head....
Oprah wants her. So do Letterman and Leno.
The failed Republican vice presidential candidate crunched state budget numbers this past week in her 17th-floor office as tumbling oil prices hit Alaska's revenues. Her staff, meanwhile, fielded television requests seeking the 44-year-old Palin for late-night banter and Sunday morning Washington policy.
Agents from the William Morris Agency and elsewhere, have come knocking. There even has been an offer to host a TV show.
"Tomorrow, Governor Palin could do an interview with any news media on the planet," said her spokesman, Bill McAllister. "Tomorrow, she could probably sign any one of a dozen book deals. She could start talking to people about a documentary or a movie on her life. That's the level we are at here."
"Barbara Walters called me. George Stephanopoulos called me," McAllister said. "I've had multiple conversations with producers for Oprah, Letterman, Leno and 'The Daily Show.'"- Sarah Palin is juggling offers to write books, appear in films and sit on dozens of... more

Neither appeared at the brief court session in which "Ciccone M L v Ritchie G S" was one of 17 cases given a preliminary decree. After six weeks and a day, the divorce can become final.
The decree said the divorce was granted on the basis of Ritchie's "unreasonable behavior," but did not elaborate.
The American pop star married the British film director eight years ago.
British news media reported, without identifying the sources of their information, that the celebrity couple had reached a settlement that would see the pop superstar keep the majority of her estimated 300 million pound ($445 million) fortune.
Reports in the Evening Standard and the Times of London said the couple had also reached a deal regarding their two children: Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, who was adopted from Malawi in 2006.
The newspapers said the two boys will split their time between Britain and the United States, while Lourdes — Madonna's 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship with personal trainer Carlos Leon — will live with her mother in America.Madonna and Guy Ritchie were granted a preliminary decree of divorce Friday.

The gloved one is sick,,,,
LONDON (AP) Â Michael Jackson might be too sick to travel to London to testify in a suit claiming he owes an Arab sheikh $7 million, the pop stars attorney said Tuesday.
Jackon is seeking to give his testimony by video link from the United States.
"It would be unwise for him to travel, given what;s hes got now," lawyer Robert Englehart said, declining to elaborate "for the obvious reasons."
Al Khalifa;s lawyer, Bankim Thanki, said the medical evidence presented by Jackson;s legal team was "very unsatisfactory" and Jackson;s illness could be treated with a bandage "if the diagnosis is positive."
;It;s not the first time a sick note has been presented by Mr. Jackson,& Thanki said, also without elaborating.
Jackson has often been seen wearing a surgical mask in public. In one infamous 2002 court appearance in California, he appeared to have a bandage hanging from his hollowed-out nose. The gloved one is sick,,,,

V Classic Launched Several Careers In 11-Year Run
Tuesday, September 16, 2008 – updated: 4:19 pm EDT October 28, 2008
It's been more than 25 years since the classic television comedy "M*A*S*H" came to an end -- a show about a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Korea that ran for 11 years and captured the hearts of millions of viewers.
For the landmark 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards celebration, the Television Academy recreated a set from the series and key in on some of the most memorable moments in television history.
Among the moments voted on by fans was the heartbreaking scene from the "M*A*S*H" episode "Abyssnia, Henry" in 1975, when Cpl. Radar O'Reilly (Gary Burghoff) breaks the news in the operating room to Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda), Trapper John McIntyre (Wayne Rogers), Hot Lips Houlihan (Loretta Swit) and Frank Burns (Larry Linville) that their beloved Lt. Col. Henry Blake's (McLean Stevenson) plane was shot down on his way home.
The scene marks one of the many reasons why "M*A*S*H" is still a big hit today in syndication. A comedy set against the backdrop of the Korean War, "M*A*S*H" also had its share of poignant moments during the show's run from 1972 to 1983.
An Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1974 and multiple nominee and winner in several other categories (including wins for Alda for lead acting and directing, as well as Swit, Burghoff and Harry Morgan for supporting roles), the show's crowning achievement came on Feb. 28, 1983. That's when the "M*A*S*H" series finale aired, as 106 million viewers made the episode "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen" the highest-rated show in television history.
So what have the members of the 4077th been doing since the end of the show? Click in to our slideshow to see the stars of "M*A*S*H" today.V Classic Launched Several Careers In 11-Year Run

os Angeles (E! Online) – UPDATE: A rep for the Spears family has released the following statement:
"Jayden James Federline was admitted to the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center on Sunday, November 9th. Doctors concluded he had a reaction to something he ingested. He is expected to be discharged tomorrow."
————————
Britney Spears made an unexpected trip to the hospital over the weekend, but this time it wasn't the pop star's health that was the issue.
Instead, E! News has learned that Spears' youngest son, Jayden, was rushed to the emergency room by the pop star sometime between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
"She looked very stressed," an eyewitness told E! News.
A short time later, Spears' sister Jamie Lynn arrived at the hospital after being driven by a friend.
Spears herself drove the 2-year-old to the hospital instead of waiting for an ambulance. While there's no official word on the reason for Jayden's admittance, the tyke spent Sunday night at the facility under observation.
Britney was spotted leaving Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center—the same hospital, coincidentally, where Jamie Lynn gave birth this year—earlier this morning, but it was not clear whether Jayden had been discharged.
Britney's brother, Bryan, and her other son, Sean Preston, accompanied by a nanny, were also seen exiting the medical center today. Last night, the elder Spears was spotted bringing fast food into the hospital.
Britney, Jayden and Sean were expecting to spend a leisurely weekend with family in the pop star's hometown of Kentwood, La., the first time since her January meltdown that 26-year-old singer was allowed to take the boys out of California. The family only arrived on Friday.
A source close to the family told E! News that Kevin Federline has been made aware of his son's hospitalization and will fly out to the Mississippi facility should the boy not be discharged today.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Country singer Merle Haggard, recently diagnosed with lung cancer, had part of a lung removed and is recovering at home, his spokeswoman said on Sunday.
The 71-year-old singer-songwriter underwent surgery on Monday in a Bakersfield, California, hospital.
"I'm feeling good ... better and better each day," Haggard was quoted as saying in a statement. "If not for the love and wisdom of my wife (Theresa), I might not be around today."
Doctors removed the upper lobe of Haggard's right lung after a biopsy revealed that he had non-small cell lung cancer, the statement said. Tests revealed that all the affected tissue was removed.
According to the American Lung Association, non-small cell lung cancer usually spreads to different parts of the body more slowly than the less-common small cell lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer of men and women in the United States. The expected 5-year survival rate for lung cancer patients is 16 percent, according to the association.
Haggard has been touring and recording since 1965, combining folk, jazz, pop and blues traditions to compose songs that have been covered by the likes of Elvis Costello, the Grateful Dead and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
He is perhaps best known for his anti-hippie anthem "Okie From Muskogee," which topped the charts in 1969.
