Yesterday, the news broke that Mel Gibson's wife of 28 years, Robyn Gibson, had filed for divorce from the actor-producer-director citing "irreconcilable differences."
There was little information on the surprising split, other than this joint statement from the couple issued by Gibson's publicist:
"Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so."
Today, details are starting to trickle forth. Mel Gibson responded to his wife's divorce petition, maintaining that they couple have actually been separated since August 26, 2006, which is just about one month after Gibson's much-publicized July 28, 2006 arrest for drunk driving.

When Kirsten Major and her friends decided to make a short film she had written, she asked if they could find time to shoot in the next few days, even though that would mean taking time off from work. The four of them just looked at each other in the coffee shop and realized that, as a matter of fact, they were all unemployed and free every day for the foreseeable future. Ms. Major described the plot for “Jonathan, Just Because” as a simple romantic film: two men take a chance on each other. “Both characters are heartbroken,” she said. “They have no money, they don’t have a lot to give. Everyone’s a little desperate.”
They named themselves the W.P.A. Players and worked with a budget of exactly nothing, but from that nothing came something. Artwork fueled by unemployment may be very good or painfully bad, but it will do something for all the people who make it.

The final feathers have fallen on the Tropicana Hotel and Casino’s “Folies Bergere” in Las Vegas. At the final performance of the “Folies Bergere” on Saturday night, the Parisian topless revue dancers gave their last high-kicking can-cans. The large audience came to say its goodbye in style, with original cast members of the show and recent hires cheering wildly from the audience for each little bit of choreography by their younger counterparts.
The curtain came down lavishly on the Tropicana showgirl revue, which is said to be the longest-running showgirl review in America. The Tropicana “Folies Bergere” show was coming close to its 50th Anniversary on Christmas Day when it suddenly got its pink slip two months ago. Tropicana executives had decided not to reinvest in a new edition of the casino-owned revue, but they did not let their jewel go without one last chance to sparkle. The “Folies” died of slow starvation over the years, as management and ownership changes stalled major reinvestment in the production that in time had become more and more dated in the Cirque du Soleil era of Las Vegas.

UPDATE (6:02 PM): The New York Post reports Natasha is being flown to New York so her family can say good-bye before she is taken off life support.
Our thoughts are with her loved ones, particularly her two young sons.
Actress Natasha Richardson - daughter of Vanessa Redgrave and sister to Joely Richardson - suffered severe head trauma after a skiing accident at the Mont Tremblant resort outside of Montreal yesterday. Reports have trickled in that the actress is brain dead and will not survive her injuries.
Richardson was initially taken to Centre Hospitalier Laurentien, near the resort, but has since been transferred to Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal. Her husband, actor Liam Neeson, rushed to his wife’s side.
Earlier reports stated Richardson had died from her injuries, but have since been changed to reflect that the actress is brain dead and that her family is “treating it as a death.”
Witnesses said she seemed fine, at first, laughing off her fall during a skiing lesson, but later complained of headaches and was immediately taken to the hospital. She was said to still be conscious when she left the resort.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Three people were arrested Saturday after chaos broke out at an "America's Next Top Model" audition at a New York hotel, police said. Six people were injured, and two of them sought treatment at a hospital, authorities said.
