Those cunning special FX loving brothers, the Wachowskis, have apparently been offered the chance to direct a new Superman trilogy. (I know, even more Superman films...)
According to frequent Wachowski-worker, James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) said at the Berlin Film Festival, that Warner Bros had approached the Matrix-making brothers about the possibility of them directing the next stage of the Superman franchise, a new trilogy of films.
There's no confirmations as yet, but reports say that they are considering it.
I have three questions....
a) Could the Wachowski bros do a new Superman film well?
b) Do we really need another Superman film?
c) Can anything ever live up to the original Superman? Those cunning special FX loving brothers, the Wachowskis, have apparently been offered... more

We often hear figures about the discrepancy between how often men and women have orgasms, with men getting off a heck of a lot more than women. According to some new research, women come only 80% as often as men if they're in relationships, and the rate drops to 50% if we're talking about repeated hookups, and only 30% for one-time shags. So what gives? Some might say it's because women need a bit more TLC to get off, but this study shows it's actually that men just aren't trying that hard.
This "orgasm gap" seems to stem from the idea that men may be less likely to care about getting their women to orgasm based on how important the relationship is to them. Funny I always thought that men got a little ego boost when they got girls off, but apparently they're more concerned about their own personal investments and returns.
An interesting quote from Michael Kimmel, author of Guyland, who compares sex to housework: "Men don't pull their weight on either front because no one makes them."
So, ladies... it's time to stop letting guys get away for lazy lays. We need to stop letting them get away with sexual selfishness. We often hear figures about the discrepancy between how often men and women have... more

A 42-year-old HIV patient with leukemia appears to have no detectable HIV in his blood and no symptoms after a stem cell transplant from a donor carrying a gene mutation that confers natural resistance to the virus that causes AIDS, according to a report published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.
"The patient is fine," said Dr. Gero Hutter of Charite Universitatsmedizin Berlin in Germany. "Today, two years after his transplantation, he is still without any signs of HIV disease and without antiretroviral medication."
The case was first reported in November, and the new report is the first official publication of the case in a medical journal. Hutter and a team of medical professionals performed the stem cell transplant on the patient, an American living in Germany, to treat the man's leukemia, not the HIV itself.
However, the team deliberately chose a compatible donor who has a naturally occurring gene mutation that confers resistance to HIV. The mutation cripples a receptor known as CCR5, which is normally found on the surface of T cells, the type of immune system cells attacked by HIV.A 42-year-old HIV patient with leukemia appears to have no detectable HIV in his blood... more

Did this poll really just come out? How are these numbers even possible in 2009?!
I don't know what's more shocking: that 1 in 4 don't believe in evolution or that 36% just DON'T CARE. It makes me so happy that Obama fought to get the funding for education back into the recovery and reinvestment act because clearly America needs it...
"PRINCETON, NJ -- On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 39% of Americans say they "believe in the theory of evolution," while a quarter say they do not believe in the theory, and another 36% don't have an opinion either way. These attitudes are strongly related to education and, to an even greater degree, religiosity.
There is a strong relationship between education and belief in Darwin's theory, as might be expected, ranging from 21% of those with high-school educations or less to 74% of those with postgraduate degrees.
Those with high-school educations or less are much more likely to have no opinion than are those who have more formal education. Still, among those with high-school educations or less who have an opinion on Darwin's theory, more say they do not believe in evolution than say they believe in it. For all other groups, and in particular those who have at least a college degree, belief is significantly higher than nonbelief."

JERUSALEM – Moderate Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and her hard-line rival Benjamin Netanyahu each declared victory in Israel's election Tuesday — despite exit polls and early results that showed a slight edge for Livni. Regardless of who gets the most votes, however, Netanyahu's Likud Party appeared to have the upper hand in forming a ruling coalition thanks to strong showing by other right-wing parties.
"With God's help, I will lead the next government," Netanyahu told a raucous crowd of cheering supporters chanting his nickname Bibi. "The national camp, led by the Likud, has won a clear advantage."
Livni aides made similar comments about her winning the election.
Even if she could overcome the formidable obstacles and become Israel's second female prime minister after Golda Meir, the early results suggest she would have to rely on the participation of right-wing parties opposed to her vision of giving up land in exchange for a peace deal with the Palestinians.
Nevertheless, applause, cheers and whistling erupted at Kadima headquarters in Tel Aviv as television stations began reporting their exit polls, with supporters jumping up and down and giving each other high-fives and hugs.
Exit polls gave Livni's Kadima Party a two-seat lead over Likud in the 120-seat Knesset, or parliament. With 27 percent of the actual votes counted, Kadima had a one-seat advantage — 27 to 26.
Israeli exit polls have not always been reliable, especially when the vote is close, but the projected results marked a dramatic slide for Netanyahu, who had held a solid lead in opinion polls heading into the election.
Early projections showed hard-line parties winning as many as 66 seats in the 120-member parliament, while liberal parties captured just 54 seats.JERUSALEM – Moderate Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and her hard-line rival... more

Radiohead have donated a song to the UK housing and homeless charity Shelter, to be used in a forthcoming TV advert.
The advert, which is called "House Of Cards", ironically doesn't feature the Radiohead track of the same name. Instead, the band's "Videotape", from their 2007 album "In Rainbows", provides the soundtrack.
Speaking of their involvement in the advert, Radiohead said they were pleased their music may help to encourage people to donate to the charity.
"We have always been big supporters of Shelter and believe that now more than ever Shelter urgently needs help and support to keep up its vital work," the band said in a statement.
"'Videotape' is the perfect track to support the ad so we decided to let Shelter use it in their new ad in the hope that it will help make a real impact."
